第四十章

[1] By these methods, Mavortius, our glory, the sum of the times is divided. But I do not wish abrupt pronouncements to be put forward in your treatments on the basis of these definitions alone. For frequently, if a benefic planet has received the time assigned to it, and has with it at that time a malefic as co-ruler of the time, [lacuna] then aspects it by a square or opposite aspect, it gives up the decree of its own goodness through the power of the malefic planet.

〔一〕马沃尔提乌斯，我们的光荣，时期的总数就以这些方法分配。但我不愿你在推算时只根据这些定义就提出草率的论断。因为常常，倘若一颗吉星接受了分给它的时期，而那时有一颗凶星作为时期的共主与它同在，〔此处原文有缺〕那时以四分或对冲的相位照着它，它就因凶星的力量放弃它自己的善意判定。

[2] You will find this same thing on a like principle in the case of a malefic planet too. For if a malefic planet has received the time assigned to it, and a benefic co-ruler of the time, either placed with it or set in a favorable aspect, has then mitigated it, every decree of misfortunes is mitigated by the saving protection of the benefic planet.

〔二〕在凶星的情形下，你也会以相似的道理发现这同样的事。因为倘若一颗凶星接受了分给它的时期，而一颗吉星作为时期的共主，或与它同在、或设在顺遂的相位上，那时缓和了它，不幸的一切判定就都被吉星的救护庇佑所缓和。

[3] The teaching of the complete work, then, has been made known to you in such a way that it may be understood, and there is nothing further that is required. For we have recounted, in a discourse easy to learn, everything with which we ought to train untutored minds. Now we who, initiated in the first ceremonies, have come to the very threshold of the secrets must hear the rest with an attentive mind, lest, when ears have grown weary and reject these sayings, we heap on them the perishing pronouncements of wandering treatises.

〔三〕所以，整部著作的教导已这样告诉了你，好让它能被理解，再没有什么还需要的了。因为凡是我们应当用来训练未经教导之心的一切，我们都已用易学的言辞叙述了。现在，我们这些在最初的仪式里入了门、已来到秘密门槛本身的人，必须以专注的心听其余的话，免得在耳朵厌倦、拒斥这些话的时候，我们又把漂泊无定的论著中那些会消亡的论断堆到它们上面。
