On the Place of the Mother.

论母亲之宫

[21] If you wish to gather the place of the mother by a partile method, and it is a day nativity, beginning from the degree of Venus and proceeding through the following signs, count all the degrees up to the degree of the Moon; and, the sum of all the degrees having been gathered, beginning from the Ascendant divide all the degrees among the following signs, and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the place of the mother in a day nativity.

〔二十一〕倘若你想用精确的方法汇集母亲之宫，而这是白天的本命盘，就从金星的度数开始，经过后续的星座，数出直到月亮度数为止的全部度数；全部度数的总和汇集之后，从上升点开始把全部度数分给后续的星座，最后一度来到哪个星座，那个星座就向你显示白天本命盘里的母亲之宫。

[22] But if it is a night nativity, gather the degrees beginning from the degree of the Moon up to the degree of Venus, and you will carry out the rest on a like principle. When, then, you have gathered this place by a partile method, you will seek everything in the way we said you ought to seek it in the place of the father: namely, the rays of the benefics and the malefics, and also the powers of the places and the signs, and also the mixtures and temperings of the rays. When you have brought all these together by an equal comparison, you will be able to unfold the place of the mother with true pronouncements.

On the Place of the Brothers.

[23] If you wish to find the place of the brothers partilely, and it is a day nativity, count beginning from the degree of Saturn up to the degree of Jupiter, and however great the count is, beginning from the degree of the Ascendant divide this same sum through the following signs, and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree of the whole number comes shows you the place of the brothers. But if it is a night nativity, you will count in like manner the whole number of degrees from Jupiter to Saturn, and so, beginning from the Ascendant, you will carry out this same thing on a like principle.

[24] When, therefore, you have gathered the place of the brothers by this partile method, examine how far the malefic and benefic planets aspect this same place. See also the power of the sign, and in which place of the nativity this sign is seen to be placed.

[25] For if benefic planets are either found in that sign itself, or are placed in suitable places of the nativity, and are placed in the signs in which they rejoice, or in which they are exalted, or in their own domiciles, they decree the fellowship of many good brothers. But if malefic planets have done this same thing, bereft of the testimonies of the benefic planets, they bring about the contrary.

[26] But if benefic and malefic planets have aspected this same place with an equal power of association, they both give brothers and take them away alike. But you will treat everything according to the genders of the planets. For masculine benefic planets will give males, and feminine benefics females. The malefic planets also bring about this same thing. Thus everything is accomplished according to the power of the individual planets. But generally, as we said in the book of instruction, the 3rd place from the Ascendant shows the brothers. But let us seek it partilely.

On the Place of the Spouse.

[27] If you wish to find the place of the spouse partilely, count from the degree of Saturn up to the degree of Venus, and whatever sum the count makes, divide that much through the following signs beginning from the Ascendant; and in whichever sign, as you divide, you find the last degree, this degree shows you the place of the spouse in a day nativity.

〔二十七〕倘若你想精确地找到配偶之宫，就从土星的度数数到金星的度数，计数得出什么总和，就从上升点开始，把那么多度经过后续的星座分下去；你在分的时候在哪个星座找到最后一度，这一度就向你显示白天本命盘里的配偶之宫。

[28] But in a night nativity you will count beginning from Venus to Saturn, and likewise divide the gathered number of degrees beginning from the Ascendant, and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the place of the spouse in a night nativity. Others count from the Sun to the Moon both in a day and in a night nativity, and as much again from the Ascendant, counting in the same way in both a man's and a woman's nativity; and we have tested this in many nativities.

[29] When, then, you have gathered the place of the spouse by this method we have described, first examine the power of the sign, whether it is solid or double or tropical. In second order you will seek in which place of the nativity the lord of the sign is placed. Third, you will inquire how far the benefic and malefic planets aspect this same place, that is, the one in which the lord of the terms is. For when benefic planets have occupied the same sign in which the place of the spouse is found, placed in suitable places of the nativity, cast down by no depression, and following the power of their own condition, they will give glorious and rich wives, and wives whom they always bind with the bonds of concord.

[30] Nor are marriages with many wives decreed. For whichever wife they have been allotted remains in the marriage up to the last day of life, with grace and the joy of charm. But you will define the characters of the wives from the nature of the signs; for from the difference of the signs you will be able to find the kinds of marriages.

〔三十〕也不判定娶许多妻子的婚姻。因为他们分得的无论哪一位妻子，都带着恩宠与魅力的喜乐，在婚姻中一直留到生命的最后一天。但你要从星座的本性界定妻子的品性；因为从星座的差别中，你能找出婚姻的种类。

[31] But if malefic planets have done this same thing, they will bring about everything contrary to these. For then lowly, then inglorious wives are decreed; then dissensions in marriages, then bitter quarrels of enmity, then the wretched turmoil of divorces is brought about; then sterile, then adulterous wives are given. But you will be able to unfold all these things according to the powers of the planets.

〔三十一〕但倘若凶星做了这同样的事，它们就造成与此相反的一切。因为那时判定卑微的、那时判定不荣耀的妻子；那时造成婚姻中的不和，那时造成仇怨的苦涩争吵，那时造成离婚的悲惨纷扰；那时给的是不育的妻子、通奸的妻子。但你能按诸星的力量展开这一切。

[32] But if in a woman's nativity you wish to find the place of the husband, and it is a day nativity, from Mars to Venus, but in a night nativity from Venus to Mars you will carry out this same thing on a like principle. Beginning from the Ascendant, divide as much again through the following signs, and the sign, whichever it is, into which the number of the last degree comes shows you the place of the husband. What kind of husband he is, then, you will be able to gather on the same principle as we stated concerning wives in the nativities of men. But you ought to remember that, generally, Venus always shows the wife and Mars the husband.

On the Place of Children.

[33] Venus and Mercury always show us the place of children. Whichever of them is placed first in the nativity, beginning from it you will count up to the other, and, beginning from the Ascendant, you will divide the gathered sum of all the degrees among the following signs, and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the place of children.

〔三十三〕金星与水星总向我们显示子女之宫。它们之中哪一颗在本命盘里落在前面，你就从它开始数到另一颗，再从上升点开始，把汇集的全部度数的总和分给后续的星座，最后一度来到哪个星座，那个星座就向你显示子女之宫。

[34] How this is that we said, whichever is first, we teach by this example. If Venus is in Taurus and Mercury in Gemini, Mercury is found to be first; beginning from Mercury, then, you will count up to Venus. But if, in like manner, Venus is ahead and Mercury in the later signs, you will make the beginning of the count from Venus.

[35] But if they are placed in one sign, beginning from the one [probably: that is in the earlier degrees, count] [lacuna] until you come to the other, which is found in the later degrees in the same sign. But if they are found in the same degrees, you begin from the one whose minutes precede. But if they are in the same minutes, then, passing this over, you will count by the same methods from Jupiter to Mercury in a day nativity, and from Mercury to Jupiter in a night nativity.

[36] When, then, you have gathered the place of children by a partile method, examine in like manner how far the benefic and malefic planets aspect this same place. But treat also the conditions of the planets with the most careful reasoning, and likewise the nature and the power of the sign. For if benefic planets, placed in suitable places of the nativity and in second signs, have aspected this place, they decree children according to the power of the places and the signs.

〔三十六〕所以，当你用精确的方法汇集了子女之宫后，同样考察吉星与凶星在多大程度上照着这同一个宫位。也要以最细心的推理处理诸星的状况，同样处理星座的本性与力量。因为倘若吉星落在本命合宜的宫位、在第二等的星座里，照着这个宫位，它们就按宫位与星座的力量判定子女。

[37] But the malefics bring about the contrary. Yet the malefics themselves sometimes decree children, if the nativity is of their own condition, that is, Saturn in a day nativity, Mars in a night one. And children are decreed according to the nature of the signs. This indeed we ought to remember: that if the place of children is found in a double sign, a man will have children by two wives; but if the sign is solid, a man will have children by one wife, and a woman by one husband.

〔三十七〕但凶星造成相反的事。然而凶星本身有时也判定子女，倘若本命盘属于它们自己的派别，即白天的本命盘之于土星，夜间的本命盘之于火星。子女也按星座的本性判定。这一点我们确实应当记住：倘若子女之宫被发现在双体星座，男人会从两个妻子得到子女；但倘若那个星座是固定的，男人会从一个妻子得子女，女人从一个丈夫得子女。

[38] But if malefic and benefic planets aspect the place of children in equal measure, they both give and take away the offspring of children alike; or, if the power of the benefic planets prevails, some weakness will be brought upon the children received, through the hostile rays of the malefic planets, or else they separate the children from their parents by great enmity.

〔三十八〕但倘若凶星与吉星以同样的分量照着子女之宫，它们就既给子女的后代，又同样夺去；或者，倘若吉星的力量占上风，就会因凶星敌对的光线，给得到的子女带来某种虚弱，或者以深仇使子女与父母分离。

[39] In this place, then, and in all the others, you will examine with careful reasoning the mixtures and temperings of the planets, and also the nature of the signs, and also the proper powers of the places counted from the Ascendant. Generally, however, the place of children is shown by the 5th place, and by the lord of its sign, and by the nature of that sign, and by the testimonies of the benefic or malefic planets.

〔三十九〕所以在这个宫位里，在其他一切宫位里，你都要以细心的推理考察诸星的混合与调和，还有星座的本性，还有从上升点数起的诸宫各自的力量。但一般地，子女之宫由第五宫、由它的星座的主星、由那个星座的本性，以及由吉星或凶星的见证来显示。

On the Place of Defects and of Health.

[40] If you wish to find the place of defects and of health partilely, in a day nativity you will count beginning from Saturn up to Mars, and as much again from the Ascendant, but in a night nativity you will count beginning from Mars to Saturn, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last number of the gathered degrees comes shows you the place of defects and of health.

〔四十〕倘若你想精确地找到缺损与健康之宫，在白天的本命盘里你从土星开始数到火星，再从上升点量出同样多；但在夜间的本命盘里你从火星开始数到土星，再从上升点量出同样多；汇集的度数的最后之数来到哪个星座，那个星座就向你显示缺损与健康之宫。

[41] But generally the 6th sign from the Ascendant shows defects. Defining, then, the defect of the illnesses in the first place from the nature of the sign (for in the book of instruction we said which parts of the body the individual signs possess), in second order you will examine how far the benefic and malefic planets aspect this same place.

[42] For if, placed in their own houses or in their exaltations, they aspect the place with a favorable aspect, they will free the man from every onset of illness. But if the malefic planets aspect this place with a threatening aspect, they decree bitter defects of illness together with wretched calamity.

[43] But you will examine these defects according to the nature of the signs and according to their own power. For Mars decrees blows, lesser wounds of the body, falls from heights and collapses, and from these mishaps deaths from wretched wounds. But Saturn, through the onset of a pestilent humor, decrees spasms, tremors, dimness of sight, and wretched perils from water, and things like these. But if the malefic planets decreeing defects as witnesses [text uncertain].

[44] But if this place, occupied by the malefics, is left bare of every protection of the benefic planets, perpetual defects of illness and deadly outcomes of calamities are decreed. Mars will cause the defect within 15 years, Saturn within 30 years, the Sun within 19 years. But if there are two that cause the defect, count the years of both and define the time, and at either time expect the onset of the defect or illness [lacuna] each planet decrees according to its own nature.

On the Place of Desire and of Wishes.

论欲望与愿望之宫

[45] If you wish to find the place of wishes partilely, in a day nativity count from the degree of the Daemon up to the degree of Fortune, and as much from the Ascendant. But in a night nativity you will count from Fortune up to the Daemon on very like principles, and as much from the Ascendant; and when you have gathered the place by a partile method, the whole craving of the wishes will be shown to you from the sign and from the testimonies of the planets. But by what method you may find the place of Fortune and the place of the Daemon, we stated in the fourth book.

〔四十五〕倘若你想精确地找到愿望之宫，在白天的本命盘里就从神灵之宫的度数数到幸运之宫的度数，再从上升点量出那么多。但在夜间的本命盘里，你以极其相似的道理从幸运之宫数到神灵之宫，再从上升点量出那么多；当你用精确的方法汇集了这个宫位后，愿望的全部渴求就从星座与诸星的见证向你显示出来。但用什么方法找到幸运之宫与神灵之宫，我们已在第四卷里说过。

On the Place of Necessity.

[46] If you wish to find the place of necessity by a partile method, in a day nativity you will count from Fortune to the Daemon, but in a night nativity from the Daemon to Fortune, and as much again from the Ascendant; and when you have gathered this same place by this method, you will define everything concerning that place according to the quality of the signs and of the planets.

〔四十六〕倘若你想用精确的方法找到必然之宫，在白天的本命盘里你从幸运之宫数到神灵之宫，但在夜间的本命盘里从神灵之宫数到幸运之宫，再从上升点量出同样多；当你用这个方法汇集了这同一个宫位后，你就按星座与诸星的性质界定关于那个宫位的一切。

On Honors.

[47] If you wish to gather the place of honors by a partile method, you will always count from the 9th to the Sun, and as much again from the Ascendant; and whichever sign receives the last degree, this shows you the insignia of honors, both from its own nature and from the testimonies of all the planets.

On Military Service.

[48] If you wish to gather the place of military service by a partile method, you will always count from Mars to the Sun, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the outcome of military service, according to its own nature and according to the testimonies of the planets.

[49] If you wish to find the place of travel abroad partilely, you will always count from the Sun to Mars, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the outcome of travel abroad, according to its own nature and according to the testimonies of the planets.

On Fame and Reputation.

[50] If you wish to gather the fame of reputation by a partile method, you will count from the Sun up to the Midheaven, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the fame of reputation, according to its own nature and according to the testimonies of the planets.

On the Strength of the Body.

[51] If you wish to find the strength of the body partilely, you will count from the Moon to Jupiter, and as much again from the Ascendant, treating the rest too on a like principle; for the testimonies of the planets, according to the nature of the sign, will show you everything.

On Possessing.

[52] If you wish to gather the substance of possessions by a partile method, you will always count from Mercury to Jupiter, and as much again from the Ascendant; and in whichever sign the last degree falls, you will find the order of possession from the nature of that sign and from the testimonies of the planets.

On Accusations.

[53] If you wish to gather the place of accusation by a partile method, you will always count from Mars to Saturn, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, in which the last degree falls shows you the outcome of the accusation, according to its own nature and according to the testimonies of the other planets.

[54] If you wish to gather the place of adversaries and enemies by a partile method, by day you will count from Mars to Mercury, but by night back from Mercury to Mars, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the enemies from its own nature and from the testimonies of the planets.

[55] If you wish to gather the place of friends by a partile method, by day you will count from Jupiter to Mercury, but by night from Mercury to Jupiter, and as much again from the Ascendant; and so the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes will show you the friends by a most truthful method, from its own nature and from the testimonies of the planets.

[56] Of glory: by night from Venus to Jupiter, by day the reverse. Of Nemesis: by night from Fortune to the Moon, by day the reverse; of power: by night from Saturn to the Sun, by day the reverse; of the basis: by night from Fortune to the Genius, by day the reverse. But if Venus has exceeded 30 degrees, whether by night or by day, the reverse, by day the reverse [probably: remnants of the "by day the reverse" clauses restored above] [text uncertain].

[57] If you wish to gather the place of slaves by a partile method, you will always count from Mercury to the Moon, and as much again from the Ascendant; and the sign, whichever it is, into which the last degree comes shows you the slaves, according to its own nature and according to the testimonies of the planets.

On Burial.
