[1] Now that all these things which the mixture of tempering shows have been set out and arranged with careful reasoning, our discourse hastens, Mavortius, our glory, to the end of this book. But there is still something required for the full substance of this work, which I shall now show you with a most truthful exposition. For we cannot come to the secrets of mathesis, which the seventh book will contain, nor to the barbarian sphere, which the body of the eighth book shows you, unless everything that pertains to the foundations of the whole science has first been gathered with careful reasoning.

[2] We shall show, then, what you ought to seek in which place, and how far. For it is not the fourth place from the Ascendant that shows the parents and the life of the parents, nor the seventh the spouse, nor the fifth the children, nor the third the friends, nor the sixth the states of health. Since, then, we have promised to say everything, receive a method full of truth and reliability, so that you may gather all these things with careful reasoning, lest, occupied with platic definitions, you lose the full reliability of the truth. You will always find the place of the father partilely by this method, then.

〔二〕所以我们要显示，你应当在哪个宫位寻找什么，寻找到什么程度。因为显示父母与父母之生命的，并不是从上升点起的第四宫；显示配偶的不是第七宫，显示子女的不是第五宫，显示朋友的不是第三宫，显示健康状况的也不是第六宫。既然我们已应许要把一切都说出来，那就接受一个充满真实与可靠的方法吧，好让你用细心的推理汇集这一切，免得你忙于概略的界定，而失去真理的完整可靠。所以你总可以用这个方法精确地找到父亲之宫。

On the Place of the Father.

论父亲之宫

[3] If you wish to gather the place of the father by a partile method, and it is a day nativity, count the whole number of degrees from the degree of the Sun to the degree of Saturn, that is, of all the signs that lie between the Sun and Saturn; and when you have made the whole sum of the number, beginning from the degree of the Ascendant, divide this number, once it is complete, among all the signs, giving thirty degrees to each sign; and the sign in which the last degree falls shows you the place of the father. But in a night nativity count from the degree of Saturn to that of the Sun, doing this same thing.

〔三〕倘若你想用精确的方法汇集父亲之宫，而这是白天的本命盘，就从太阳的度数数到土星的度数，计算度数的全部数目，即太阳与土星之间所有星座的度数；当你得出数目的整个总和后，从上升点的度数开始，把这个凑齐的数目分给所有星座，每个星座分三十度；最后一度落在哪个星座，那个星座就向你显示父亲之宫。但在夜间的本命盘里，从土星的度数数到太阳的度数，做同样的事。

[4] When, then, by skillful calculation you have found the sign of the father among the signs set out, you will shape the substance of the father from the nature of that sign. Look also how far this same sign is adorned with the rays of the benefic planets. For if benefic planets are in this very sign, or have aspected it with a favorable aspect, the felicity of the father is found. But if malefic planets have done this same thing, everything contrary is announced to us concerning the father.

〔四〕所以，当你以熟练的计算在排列出的诸星座中找到父亲的星座后，你就从那个星座的本性塑造父亲的实质。也要看这同一个星座在多大程度上被吉星的光线所装饰。因为倘若吉星就在这个星座里，或以顺遂的相位照着它，就发现父亲的幸福。但倘若凶星做了这同样的事，关于父亲向我们宣告的就是一切相反的事。

[5] Examine also this very sign, whether it belongs to a benefic planet or to a malefic one, and how the lord of that sign is placed in the nativity, in which sign or in which terms, and whether it stands in the first or in the second angles, whether in the places in which it rejoices or in the idle and cast-down places. For from all these you will find of what kind of nativity the father was.

〔五〕也要考察这个星座本身，它属于吉星还是凶星，那个星座的主星在本命盘里怎样落定，在哪个星座、哪个界里，是立在第一等的角还是第二等的角，是在它喜乐的宫位，还是在闲置而低陷的宫位。因为从这一切中，你会找出父亲曾有怎样的本命。

[6] If, then, the sign in which the place of the father is found is a sign of Jupiter, and Jupiter is placed in that place itself, or in the signs in which it is exalted, or in the first angles, or in the 5th or in the 11th place, and is adding to its numbers and placed in morning rising, and aspects the place from a trine or from a sextile, it shows a father adorned with the happy insignia of rank. But if Jupiter is either in the second angles, or in the cast-down and idle places, or retrograde, or hidden by the rays of the Sun, it shows that the father was of middling station.

〔六〕所以，倘若父亲之宫所在的星座是木星的星座，而木星落在那个宫位本身，或在它所旺的星座，或在第一等的角，或在第五宫或第十一宫，又在增加行程之数、落在晨升之中，并从三分或六分照着这个宫位，它就显示一位以品级的幸福徽章为饰的父亲。但倘若木星或在第二等的角，或在低陷而闲置的宫位，或逆行，或被太阳的光线遮住，它就显示父亲曾是中等境况的人。

[7] But if Venus is the lady of this sign in which the place of the father is found, it must be sought in which place the star of Venus is placed. For if it is in that place itself, or in the first angles, or in the signs in which it rejoices, or in which it is exalted, or in the 5th place from the Ascendant or in the 11th, and is in morning rising, but adding to its numbers, and, placed in these places or signs, aspects the place of the father with a favorable aspect, it decrees for the father the greatest insignia of honor and the greatest charm of grace. But if it is in the cast-down places, and in those signs in which it is depressed, or retrograde, or hidden by the rays of the Sun, it shows us a father of middling station.

〔七〕但倘若金星是父亲之宫所在这个星座的女主，就要寻找金星之星落在哪个宫位。因为倘若它在那个宫位本身，或在第一等的角，或在它喜乐的星座，或在它所旺的星座，或在从上升点起的第五宫或第十一宫，又在晨升之中，并且在增加行程之数，落在这些宫位或星座里，以顺遂的相位照着父亲之宫，它就为父亲判定荣誉的最大徽章与恩宠的最大魅力。但倘若它在低陷的宫位，在它受压低的那些星座，或逆行，或被太阳的光线遮住，它就向我们显示一位中等境况的父亲。

[8] But if the place of the father is found in a sign of Mercury, seek in which place Mercury is placed. For if it is in that place itself, or in its exaltation, or in its other house, or in its own degrees and in those angles and places in which it rejoices, and is in morning rising and adding to its numbers, it will make the father devoted to all the duties of business, one on whom the greatest profits are frequently conferred, and one who always loves his children with tender affection.

〔八〕但倘若父亲之宫被发现在水星的星座，就寻找水星落在哪个宫位。因为倘若它在那个宫位本身，或在它的旺宫，或在它的另一个庙，或在它自己的度数里，在它喜乐的那些角与宫位，又在晨升之中、增加行程之数，它会使父亲致力于事务的一切职分，常常得到最大的赢利，总以温柔的情意爱他的子女。

[9] But if the favorable aspect of the benefic planets has helped Mercury, that is, the lord of the paternal place, he will attain greater increases in the things we have mentioned. But if Mercury is in the cast-down places, or in those angles in which it does not rejoice, or in its depressions, and is retrograde, or hidden by the rays of the Sun, the decrees of the preceding felicity are changed, and all the things we have mentioned are conferred on the father thinly and in middling measure.

〔九〕但倘若吉星顺遂的相位帮助了水星，即父亲之宫的主星，他就在我们所说的这些事上得到更大的增长。但倘若水星在低陷的宫位，或在它不喜乐的那些角，或在它的低落之处，又逆行，或被太阳的光线遮住，前面那些幸福的判定就改变了，我们所说的一切都稀薄而中等地授给父亲。

[10] If the place of the father is found in a sign of Saturn, seek in which place of the nativity Saturn is placed. For if it is a day nativity, and Saturn is found in that place itself, or in its own degrees, or in its own signs, or in the degrees in which it is exalted, and in the places in which it rejoices, and is in morning rising and adding to its numbers, and Jupiter aspects it with a favorable aspect, it will make the father grave, modest, mature, formidable with a gentle severity, a cultivator of fields, one on whom the greatest supports of his patrimony are conferred from these fruits, and who is raised up by great promotions.

〔十〕倘若父亲之宫被发现在土星的星座，就寻找土星落在本命的哪个宫位。因为倘若这是白天的本命盘，而土星被发现在那个宫位本身，或在它自己的度数，或在它自己的星座，或在它所旺的度数，在它喜乐的宫位，又在晨升之中、增加行程之数，而木星以顺遂的相位照着它，它会使父亲庄重、端正、成熟，以温和的严厉令人敬畏，是耕种田地的人，从这些果实中得到家产最大的依靠，又被大的升迁所抬起。

[11] But if it is a night nativity, and Saturn is in the cast-down places or in the cast-down angles or in its depressions, and is retrograde or hidden by the rays of the Sun, it makes the father toilsome, sordid, frightful, gloomy, always faltering in sluggish endeavors, a slave, or defiled by servile ways or by the squalor of servitude.

〔十一〕但倘若这是夜间的本命盘，而土星在低陷的宫位、或在低陷的角、或在它的低落之处，又逆行，或被太阳的光线遮住，它会使父亲劳苦、卑污、可怕、阴沉，总在迟缓的努力中踌躇，是奴隶，或被奴隶的习气、被为奴的污秽所玷污。

[12] If the place of the father is found in a sign of Mars, and it is a day nativity, while Mars itself is either in that place itself, or in the angles, or in the 5th or the 11th place from the Ascendant, or in the 9th or the 3rd, and is in morning rising and proceeding with a direct course through the degrees, it will make the father harsh, rash, entangled in various labors and various perils, short-lived, always entangled in perverse desires.

〔十二〕倘若父亲之宫被发现在火星的星座，而这是白天的本命盘，火星本身或在那个宫位本身，或在诸角，或在从上升点起的第五宫或第十一宫，或在第九宫或第三宫，又在晨升之中，以顺行的行程经过诸度，它会使父亲严苛、鲁莽，陷在种种劳苦与种种危险之中，短命，总陷在颠倒的欲望里。

[13] But if Mars, so placed, has seen the place of the father from a square or from opposition, it makes him die a violent death. But if it is a night nativity, and Jupiter or Venus aspects the place of the father or of the mother with a favorable aspect, the things we have mentioned are mitigated in some part, and it makes the father upright, military, severe, one whom arms and steel always delight, and according to the measure of the nativity it renders him either a chief or a general.

〔十三〕但倘若这样落定的火星从四分或对冲看着父亲之宫，它就使他横死。但倘若这是夜间的本命盘，而木星或金星以顺遂的相位照着父亲或母亲之宫，我们所说的这些就在某种程度上被缓和，它使父亲正直、从军、严厉，总以兵器与铁为乐，并按本命的分量，使他成为首领或将军。

[14] If the place of the father is found in the sign of the Sun, and it is a day nativity, seek in which sign or in which place of the nativity the Sun is placed. For if the Sun is either in that sign itself, or in its exaltation, or in the principal angles, or in the 5th or the 11th place from the Ascendant, it shows a father rich in overflowing wealth, adorned with the greatest insignia of rank, and carrying off the glory of great felicity.

〔十四〕倘若父亲之宫被发现在太阳的星座，而这是白天的本命盘，就寻找太阳落在本命的哪个星座或哪个宫位。因为倘若太阳或在那个星座本身，或在它的旺宫，或在首要的角，或在从上升点起的第五宫或第十一宫，它就显示一位财富丰盈、以品级的最大徽章为饰、享有大幸福之荣耀的父亲。

[15] But if it is in the cast-down places, or in the second angles, or in its depressions, and the ray of the malefic planets assails it when it is bereft of the benefics, all these things we have mentioned are diminished for the most part, especially if it is a night nativity; for then, among other things, it also lays the father low by a swift death.

〔十五〕但倘若它在低陷的宫位，或在第二等的角，或在它的低落之处，而失去吉星时凶星的光线又攻击它，我们所说的这一切就大部分减损，尤其是倘若这是夜间的本命盘；因为那时，除了别的事，它还以迅速的死亡把父亲放倒。

[16] If the place of the father is found in the sign of the Moon, seek in which place of the nativity the Moon is placed. For if it is either in that place itself, or in the signs in which it is exalted, or in the principal angles, or in the 5th or the 11th place from the Ascendant, and is full in light, and it is a night nativity, and the benefic planets aspect it with a favorable aspect, and it is separated from all associations with the malefic planets, it will make the father famous, conspicuous, wealthy, one on whom a patrimony and rank are always conferred.

〔十六〕倘若父亲之宫被发现在月亮的星座，就寻找月亮落在本命的哪个宫位。因为倘若它或在那个宫位本身，或在它所旺的星座，或在首要的角，或在从上升点起的第五宫或第十一宫，又光满，而这是夜间的本命盘，吉星以顺遂的相位照着它，它又与凶星的一切结伴隔开，它会使父亲有名、显眼、富有，家产与品级总授给他。

[17] But if the Moon is in the cast-down places or in the second angles or in its depressions, and the ray of the malefic planets assails it when it is bereft of the protection of the benefic planets, and it is a day nativity, and it is diminished in light, and Saturn aspects it, or Mars aspects it when full, all the things we said before are diminished for the most part, and he becomes either an exile or one who dies a violent death, of wandering ways, ignorant of the right path of life.

〔十七〕但倘若月亮在低陷的宫位、或在第二等的角、或在它的低落之处，而失去吉星的庇护时凶星的光线又攻击它，又是白天的本命盘，月光减损，土星照着它，或者月亮满时火星照着它，我们前面所说的一切就大部分减损，他或成为流放者，或横死，行踪漂泊，不知人生的正路。

[18] But in this place too, as we said before, you must always examine with careful reasoning the mixtures, conditions, and aspects of all the planets, so that, when everything has been mixed and arranged by a shrewd combination of tempering, you may be able to unfold the place of the father with true pronouncements. Search out carefully also the degree itself, and see who is the lord of the degree and how it is placed; for it too taints the place by its own nature.

〔十八〕但在这个宫位上也一样，如我们前面所说，你总要用细心的推理考察一切行星的混合、状况与相位，好让你在用精明的调和组合把一切混合、排列好之后，能以真实的论断展开父亲之宫。也要仔细探寻那一度本身，看谁是那一度的主星，它怎样落定；因为它也以自己的本性沾染那个宫位。

[19] You will have to keep this method of predicted outcomes in the following places as well. For in the place of the mother, and of the brothers, and of the wife and children, and of health and of defects, you must temper everything by very frequent calculations, so that, having regarded the aspect of all the planets, and having gathered the power of the places and the signs, and also of the degrees, that is, of the terms, you may be able to unfold everything with true pronouncements.

[20] But in other places too these same predicted outcomes may be [lacuna] we have gathered the place [text uncertain]. Generally, however, in nativities the Sun is put in the place of the father, but we have found it better partilely.
