The Moon and Mercury in Square.

月亮与水星成四分

[1] If the Moon and Mercury have been joined by a square aspect, and Mercury, occupying the superior part of the right square, has aspected the Moon placed in the left square with a threatening aspect, from this conjunction the ornament of wisdom and a learned eloquence of speech with honorable discourse are decreed. But danger frequently comes upon these men from popular sedition.

〔一〕倘若月亮与水星以四分相相结，而水星占住右四分的上方之位，以带威胁的相位照着落在左四分的月亮，从这一相结中就判定智慧的装饰与有学问的雄辩言辞，并有体面的谈吐。但民众的骚乱常给这些人带来危险。

[2] But if a malefic planet, having become superior, has aspected Mercury so placed by a square aspect, so that it aspects the Moon from opposition and Mercury from a square, it fastens on them a fearful charge of forgery, and makes those detected in this misdeed either be placed in custody or thrust into prison, or they will suffer chains and exile by the punishment of a public sentence.

〔二〕但倘若一颗凶星居上位，以四分相照着这样落定的水星，以致它从对冲照着月亮、从四分照着水星，它就给他们加上伪造文书的可怕罪名，使在这件恶事中被查出的人或被交付看管，或被投入监狱，或因公开判决的惩处而遭受锁链与流放。

[3] But if the Moon, having become superior and occupying the right side, has aspected Mercury placed in the inferior place with a square aspect, this conjunction will make men unstable through levity of mind; it turns their plans this way and that with shifting thought, nor does their mind ever keep to the reasoning of a single plan.

〔三〕但倘若月亮居上位、占住右方，以四分相照着落在下位的水星，这一相结会使人因心意轻浮而不定；它以变换的思虑把他们的谋划转来转去，他们的心从不守住一个谋划的道理。

[4] These things the square aspect decrees in the nativities of men; these are the judgments that the authority of the fates puts forth day by day from the square sides. You ought to examine these judgments carefully in every treatment, especially since these same squares, when the order of the planets is changed, also cause the decrees of what has been determined to be changed.

〔四〕这些是四分相在人的本命盘里所判定的；这些是命运的权威每日从四分的两边发出的判决。在每一次推算中，你都应仔细审视这些判决，尤其是因为同样这些四分，当行星的次序改变时，也使已定之事的判定随之改变。

[5] With these explained, I shall now explain in particular the effects of the oppositions. But which squares are on the right and which on the left we have stated most plainly in the book of instruction.

Saturn and Jupiter in Opposition.

[1] The opposite aspect always assails itself with contrary power and rises up against itself with a hostile kind of association; and so it too, like the square, is a threatening aspect.

〔一〕对冲的相位总以相反的力量攻击自身，以敌对的结伴方式起而相抗；所以它也和四分一样，是带威胁的相位。

[2] Hence if Saturn and Jupiter have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their strength, this conjunction decrees many ruinous misfortunes in all actions and always brings about the bitter torments of grief from the misfortune of children.

〔二〕因此，倘若土星与木星以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们力量的威力远远地互相打击，这一相结就在一切作为中判定许多毁灭性的不幸，并总从子女的不幸中带来悲痛的苦涩折磨。

[3] But if Saturn has been placed on the angle in the degree of the Ascendant, and Jupiter, placed in the Descendant, has aspected it by an opposite aspect, then after grave misfortunes in youth, the late advantages of good fortune will be conferred at the very end of old age.

〔三〕但倘若土星落在角上、在上升点的度数，而落在下降点的木星以对冲的相位照着它，那么在青年时的沉重不幸之后，迟来的好运之利会在老年的最末授予。

Saturn and Mars in Opposition.

[4] If Saturn and Mars have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their strength, this aspect decrees the troubles of the gravest dangers and of many anxieties. For it will entangle the natives in very many and evil adversities, will cause them to be struck by the bitter stain of envy, brings about the wretched straits of necessity, and will cause the body to be wearied by unbroken successions of illnesses and of toils.

〔四〕倘若土星与火星以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们力量的威力远远地互相打击，这一相位就判定最沉重的危险与许多忧虑的困扰。因为它会使本命之人卷入极多而恶劣的违逆，使他们被嫉妒的苦涩污点所打击，带来不得已的悲惨困窘，并使身体被不断的疾病与劳苦所困乏。

[5] It also always imposes grave dangers to life, frequently shows the image of a fearful death, decrees the attacks of domestic enmities, and stirs up frequent storms of terrible seditions. It also denies the offspring of children, will make the father laid low by a swift death, and perpetuates toil upon toil in an unbroken succession.

〔五〕它还总加上性命的沉重危险，常显示可怕死亡的景象，判定家中仇怨的侵袭，并激起可怕骚乱的频繁风暴。它还拒绝给予子女的后代，使父亲被迅速的死亡打倒，并以不断的接续使劳苦接着劳苦。

[6] But if Saturn and Mars, placed in watery signs, have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, as we have said, then the raging surge of the waves casts them out as shipwrecked men overwhelmed by heavy storms and tempests; or, overwhelmed by the heavier waters of torrential rivers, it will entangle them in the dangers of perils; or a plague congealed from malignant humor brings about strong and lasting calamities of illness.

〔六〕但倘若土星与火星落在水象星座里，如我们所说以对冲的相位彼此相照，那时汹涌的浪涛就把他们当作被沉重风暴与狂风淹没的遇难者抛出去；或者被奔流河水更沉重的水淹没，它使他们卷入危难的危险；或者由恶性体液凝结而成的瘟病带来强烈而持久的疾病灾祸。

[7] But if one of the two, either Mars or Saturn, placed in a wild-beast sign, has aspected the other by an opposite aspect, a wretched danger of peril is brought on by the blow of a four-footed animal, a wild beast, or a beast; for others the poison of venom, driven into their marrow, decrees the bitter end of death with a lamentable calamity.

〔七〕但倘若两者之一，或火星或土星，落在野兽星座里，以对冲的相位照着另一颗，悲惨的危险就由四足动物、野兽或牲畜的一击带来；对另一些人，毒液的毒钻进骨髓，以可哀的灾祸判定苦涩的死亡结局。

[8] But if they are placed in four-footed signs, or if one of them, found in a four-footed sign, has aspected the other by an opposite aspect, then, together with the evils we said are brought about by the preceding definitions, crushed by the heavy weight of falling buildings and undone by the mangling of a shattered body, they either die or are forced to undergo dangers near to death.

〔八〕但倘若它们落在四足星座里，或其中一颗在四足星座里以对冲的相位照着另一颗，那么除了我们说过由前面诸条界定所带来的恶事之外，他们还被倒塌建筑的沉重分量压住，被身体破碎的伤残所毁，或者死去，或者被迫遭受近于死亡的危险。

[9] But all these misfortunes grow strong with a mighty heap of calamity when Jupiter has softened them, so placed, with no aspects. For if, while they occupy the angles of the nativity, the Moon, placed in any angle, has aspected them by this same aspect or by a square, then this conjunction decrees graver dangers, then the wanderings of fugitives, then exiles and public deaths; then, the honor of freedom snatched away, they impose the yoke of wretched slavery.

[10] But if, placed in the fifth or in the eleventh place from the Ascendant, or in the ninth or in the third, they have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, they will extinguish every hope of prosperous good fortune and decree the ruin of a wretched abasement with a falling lowliness. But these misfortunes grow stronger in the middle period of life.

〔十〕但倘若它们落在从上升点起的第五宫或第十一宫，或第九宫或第三宫，以对冲的相位彼此相照，它们就会熄灭顺遂好运的一切希望，以跌落的卑下判定悲惨的低落之毁。但这些不幸在人生的中段更强。

[11] But if, placed in cast-down and idle places, they have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, they will indeed do less harm, but from this aspect they decree griefs and the troubles of wretched want. But all these fearful dangers of evils are softened by the suitable testimonies of Venus and Jupiter; the malice of the malefic planets is blunted by the prosperous testimony of the saving god, and the threatening outcomes of the aforesaid dangers are dissolved.

〔十一〕但倘若它们落在低陷闲置的宫位，以对冲的相位彼此相照，它们为害确实较小，但从这一相位中判定悲痛与悲惨匮乏的困扰。但这一切可怕的恶事危险，都因金星与木星合宜的见证而得到缓和；凶星的恶意因这位救护之神顺遂的见证而变钝，前面所说危险的威胁性结局也被化解。

Saturn and the Sun in Opposition.

土星与太阳成对冲

[12] If Saturn and the Sun have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their strength, and the saving star of Jupiter does not aspect them from any side, they will either entangle the father in toilsome necessities, or certainly impose on the natives themselves the burden of a toilsome life, or decree the straits of want together with a certain stinginess. On others they inflict the danger of a bitter illness.

〔十二〕倘若土星与太阳以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们力量的威力远远地互相打击，而木星这颗救护之星又不从任何一边照着它们，它们或者使父亲卷入劳苦的不得已，或者肯定给本命之人自己加上劳苦人生的重担，或者判定匮乏的困窘并伴有某种吝啬。对另一些人，它们加上苦涩疾病的危险。

[13] And if they have any support of resources, these either perish while the natives themselves are still alive, or after their death are squandered by wretched ruin. A bad death is also decreed from this aspect, and they shake the whole substance of life with various and evil successions of toils. But the wickedness of these evils grows more strongly if, placed in feminine signs, they have aspected each other by this aspect.

Saturn and Venus in Opposition.

[14] If Saturn and Venus have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their strength, they will make men given over to brothels, pursuing harlots with an indiscriminate desire of lusts, so that from this they are struck with grave infamy and great disgrace.

〔十四〕倘若土星与金星以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们力量的威力远远地互相打击，它们会使人沉溺于妓院，以不加分别的情欲追逐娼妓，以致因此受到严重的污名与大耻辱的打击。

[15] They also make them separated from the bonds of marriage on account of lust; and if marriage has been decreed to anyone from the rest of the substance of the nativity, he obtains a wife with injury to his own modesty, or at least a wife is decreed for them whom a pestilent vice always stains with wretched contagion, or the wife will be polluted by the squalor of servile filth, or she always associates herself with slaves in the pleasure of prostituted modesty. And all the grace of Venusian beauty is denied to the natives themselves.

Saturn and Mercury in Opposition.

[16] If Saturn and Mercury have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their strength, so placed they hinder the tongue with a slow sound of voice, so that the words, hindered by slow efforts, fail in the very throat, or they confuse the words through a tying of the tongue.

〔十六〕倘若土星与水星以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们力量的威力远远地互相打击，这样落定的它们就以迟缓的声音阻碍舌头，以致话语被迟缓的努力阻住，就在喉咙里断了，或者它们因舌头被缚而把话语弄乱。

[17] But these evils grow stronger if Saturn has aspected Mercury placed in a mute sign by an opposite aspect, or if Mercury, hidden by the rays of the Sun, has been struck by Saturn with an opposite aspect. And if Saturn has aspected by an opposite aspect the Moon joined with Mercury in the same association, the things we have said grow stronger, unless the testimony of Mars, lent in any manner whatever, dissolves the trouble of the aforesaid malice. For together with the other things we have said, without the testimony of Mars a ruinous burden of toil is also imposed.

〔十七〕但倘若土星以对冲的相位照着落在无声星座里的水星，或者被太阳光线遮住的水星被土星以对冲的相位打击，这些恶事就更强。倘若土星以对冲的相位照着与水星同在一个结伴里相结的月亮，我们所说的这些就更强，除非火星以任何方式借出的见证化解前面所说恶意的困扰。因为在我们所说的其他事之外，没有火星的见证，还加上毁灭性的劳苦重担。

[18] But together with these evils a training of a wise mind is decreed, and skilled teaching of studies will be conferred. But they always toil over their art with ineffectual zeal; the gloom of severity always makes their face harsh, and they are lifted up by a lofty spirit of pride. These same men, however, you will hear of as suffering various kinds of anxieties day by day, and they will take precedence over their brothers in rank of age. For whatever elder brothers they have are parted from them either by death or by long travels abroad. It also destroys their mothers in early life. [text uncertain]

〔十八〕但与这些恶事一同，还判定有智慧之心的修养，并授予学问上熟练的教导。但他们总以徒劳的热忱为自己的技艺熬夜；严厉的阴沉总使他们的面容严酷，他们被高傲的骄气抬起。然而这些人，你会听说他们每天遭受种种忧虑；他们在年齿的次序上会居于兄弟之先。因为他们无论有什么兄长，都或因死亡、或因长期远游而与他们分开。它还在幼年时毁掉他们的母亲。〔原文疑有讹误〕

Saturn and the Moon in Opposition.

[19] If Saturn and the Moon have aspected each other by an opposite aspect, and, placed in contrary places, have struck at each other from afar with the power of their rays, first they cause the substance of the mother's resources to totter, and they also weaken the mother herself with a varied, unbroken succession of pains and hidden illnesses, or they always wrap her in the gloom of perverse men.

〔十九〕倘若土星与月亮以对冲的相位彼此相照，落在相反的宫位，以它们光线的威力远远地互相打击，首先它们使母亲资财的实质动摇，还以种种不断的疼痛与隐疾削弱母亲本人，或总以邪恶之人的阴沉包裹她。

[20] But if the ray of the benefic planets has withdrawn from them, and they have been bereft of all testimony of the saving stars, then a dishonorable deformity of body disgraces the mother, and losses shake her with continual assaults. And various dangers of perils always rise up against the natives themselves. But Saturn and the Moon decree these things according to the variety of the signs.

〔二十〕但倘若吉星的光线离开了它们，它们失去了救护之星的一切见证，那时身体可耻的丑陋使母亲受辱，损失以不断的侵袭震撼她。种种危难的危险也总向本命之人自己袭来。但土星与月亮依星座的不同而判定这些事。

[21] For if one of them, placed in four-footed signs, has aspected the other by an opposite aspect, a danger of perils is brought on by such animals. But if, placed in wild-beast signs, they have aspected each other by this aspect, a ruinous end of the greatest peril is incurred from wild animals or beasts or from the venomous bites of serpents. But if the opposition we have mentioned is in human signs, a varied ruinous calamity arises from the plots of men.

〔二十一〕因为倘若其中一颗落在四足星座里，以对冲的相位照着另一颗，危难的危险就由这类动物带来。但倘若它们落在野兽星座里以这一相位彼此相照，最大危难的毁灭性结局就由野生动物、野兽或毒蛇的咬伤招致。但倘若我们所说的对冲在人形星座里，种种毁灭性的灾祸就从人的阴谋中兴起。

[22] But if, placed in watery signs, they have struck their rays at each other with the obstinacy of opposition, a wretched danger of pestilence is brought on from floods of waters or from malignant humors; and if no protection of the benefic planets has broken the power of the threatening aspect, the whole form of the body is changed by the calamity of a vicious illness, or the bright light of the eyes is overshadowed by the darkness of wretched blindness. Others, so placed, they compel to leave their homeland through the various necessities of dangers.

〔二十二〕但倘若它们落在水象星座里，以对冲的顽强把光线射向彼此，悲惨的瘟病危险就由洪水或恶性体液带来；倘若吉星的护佑没有打破这带威胁之相位的力量，身体的整个形貌就因恶疾的灾祸而改变，或眼睛的明亮之光被悲惨失明的黑暗遮蔽。另一些人，这样落定的它们迫使他们因种种危险的不得已而离开故乡。
