第七章

[1] All these things, Mavortius, our glory, have been made known to you in detail, nor has anything been passed over by us that the divine ancients and the interpreters of this discipline brought forth with the zeal of prudent skill and learned speech. But what we have frequently said we impress upon your wisdom with the same admonitions: that you compare the whole force of the planets, the mixtures of all the signs, and also the efficacies of the degrees according to the powers of the places, and that you not wish to explain the whole substance of a nativity from the course of a single planet,

〔一〕马沃尔提乌斯，我们的光荣，这一切都已逐一告知你，凡神圣的古人与这门学问的解释者以审慎技艺与博学言辞的热忱所发表的，我们都没有遗漏。但我们常说的话，仍以同样的告诫印在你的智慧上：你要比较诸星的全部力量、一切星座的混合，还要依宫位的力量比较各度的效力，不要想凭一颗行星的运行解释一个本命盘的全部实质，

[2] but that you join the Ascendant with the powers of the 12 places, compare the planets too with each of the other planets, and inquire which planets are joined to the Ascendant and by what aspect, and to what extent the planets themselves either assail or raise up one another's strength, what forms the natural character of the signs or of the degrees assigns to each planet, and what the authority of each of the places and angles decrees. When all these things have been gathered by shrewd inquiry, then, having examined the substance of the nativity, give your pronouncements on each matter, but only once they have first been shaped by a measured comparison.

〔二〕而要把上升点与十二宫的力量结合起来，也把各颗行星与其他每一颗行星相比较，探究哪些行星以什么相位与上升点相结，行星本身在多大程度上或攻击、或抬举彼此的力量，星座或度数的天然形貌给每颗行星派定了什么形态，各个宫位与四角的权威又判定什么。当这一切都以机敏的探究汇集起来之后，再察看本命的实质，对每件事说出你的论断，但这些论断要先经过有节度的比较而成形。

[3] Examine carefully also the risings and the ascensions of the signs. For Jupiter, when it has entered the place of Venus, does not always decree wives, nor, when it has entered the place of children, will it grant children; rather, it renders these things to those for whom the substance of the whole nativity has decreed wives or children. Nor does Mars in its circuit always aspect the Ascendant from the Descendant with threatening aspects, nor does Saturn, coming from the degree of the Ascendant, always decree grave perils of dangers with a general atrocity of malice; but for whomever dangers have been decreed from the substance of the whole nativity, then, advanced by the ascensions of the signs [lacuna] and made lords of the times, they carry out the orders of all the dangers.

〔三〕也要仔细察看星座的升起与上升时间。因为木星进入金星的宫位时，并不总是判定妻子；进入子女之宫时，也不会总是赐予子女；而是把这些给予那些整个本命的实质判定了妻子或子女的人。火星在环行中也并不总是从下降点以威胁的相位照着上升点，土星从上升点的度数而来，也并不总是以普遍的恶意之残暴判定严重的危险；而是凡从整个本命的实质判定了危险的人，那时它们被星座的上升时间推进〔此处原文有缺〕成为时主，执行一切危险的命令。

[4] Hence, admonished most often, you ought to instruct your soul, shaped by divine instruction, with skillful conjecture through the mixtures of the individual planets and the powers of the degrees. For frequently the lodging of an evil sign changes the goodness of Jupiter, and the salutary lodging of a good degree weakens the malice of Saturn. Nor ought you to expect peril from an evil place when a salutary star has aspected that same place and the threatening rays of the malefic planets are broken by the suitability of the place. Thus in the nativities of men the mixture of places, degrees, signs, and planets composes everything. If you have gathered all these things with balanced moderation, you will be able to explain the whole fate of a man in the truest pronouncements.

〔四〕因此，你既已一再受到告诫，就应当以机巧的推测，借各颗行星的混合与各度的力量，来装备你那由神圣教导塑成的灵魂。因为凶恶星座的寄居常常改变木星的善良，而良好度数的有益寄居则削弱土星的恶意。当一颗有益的星照着某个凶恶的宫位，而凶星的威胁光线因宫位的合宜而被折断时，你也不应当从这个凶恶的宫位预期危险。所以，在人的本命盘里，宫位、度数、星座与行星的混合组成了一切。倘若你以均衡的节度把这一切汇集起来，就能以最真实的论断解释一个人的全部命运。

[5] But now that this book has been set out, let our discourse pass over to the beginnings of the sixth book. For there I shall explain to you all the mixtures of the planets in the truest interpretations, so that, once that book has been set out, our attention may pass over to the specific interpretation of effects.
