XXII. On the Empty and Full Places.

第二十二章　论空的与满的宫位

[1] As I am now about to explain the venerable secrets of this teaching, which the divine ancients spoke of with the greatest trepidation and left wrapped in the windings of obscurity, so that the divine science, once made public, might not come to the knowledge of profane men, [lacuna] with an attentive and quiet mind, not occupied with other matters, so that whatever I say in this treatise may be conveyed by the easiest methods.

〔一〕我现在要解释这门学说可敬的奥秘，神圣的古人说起它时极为战栗，又把它裹在晦涩的曲折里留下来，免得这神圣的学问一经公开，就传到不洁之人的耳中，〔此处原文有缺〕以专注而安静、不为别事所占的心，好让我在这篇论述里所说的一切，都以最简便的方法传达出来。

[2] We said in the book of instruction that each sign has three decans; and the decans themselves are of great divinity and power, and through them all prosperity and all misfortunes are decreed. So Nechepso too, the most just emperor of Egypt and a very good astrologer, gathered all defects and illnesses through these decans, showing which decan brings about which illness; and because one nature is overcome by another nature, and because one god is frequently overcome by another god, he discovered, through the teachings of divine reason, remedies for all sicknesses from contrary natures and from contrary powers.

〔二〕我们在《入门之书》里说过，每个星座有三个十度区；而十度区本身有极大的神性与力量，一切顺遂与一切不幸都通过它们判定。所以埃及最公正的皇帝、极好的占星家尼切普索，也通过这些十度区汇集了一切缺损与疾病，指明哪个十度区造成哪种疾病；而因为一种本性被另一种本性制服，一位神又常被另一位神制服，他凭神圣道理的教导，从相反的本性与相反的力量中找到了一切病患的疗方。

[3] The 36 decans, then, occupy the whole circle of the zodiac, and this number of gods, that is, of the decans, is divided through the number of the 12 signs. But although there are three decans in each sign, the divinity of their power does not extend over all 30 degrees; rather, through each sign the three decans occupy some degrees and leave others. Those degrees, then, are full in which the decans are found, and those are empty to which the divinity of the decans never comes.

〔三〕所以三十六个十度区占满整个黄道圈，这一群神即十度区的数目，按十二个星座的数目分配。但虽然每个星座有三个十度区，它们力量的神性却不伸展到全部三十度；而是在每个星座中，三个十度区占住某些度，留下另一些度。所以十度区所在的那些度是满的，十度区的神性永远到不了的那些度是空的。

[4] Whoever, then, has in his nativity the Sun and the Moon and the five planets in full degrees will be a god, raised up by the support of the greatest majesty. But it can never happen in the nativity of a man that the Ascendant, the Sun and the Moon, and the five planets are placed in full degrees. For those who have one planet in full degrees will be middling; those who have two attain every kind of good fortune; those who have three receive the ornaments of good fortune multiplied beyond measure; those who have four attain the power of royal good fortune. Beyond this number the planets occupy full degrees in no nativities. But those who have neither the Ascendant nor any planet in full degrees will always be wretched, destitute, and poor, bound to every peril of misfortune by a continual succession of miseries.

〔四〕所以，凡在本命盘里太阳、月亮与五颗行星都在满度的人，会是一位神，被最大威严的扶持抬升起来。但在人的本命盘里，上升点、太阳与月亮、五颗行星都落在满度，是永远不可能发生的。因为有一颗行星在满度的人，会是中等的；有两颗的，得到各种好运；有三颗的，得到加倍到无以复加的好运之饰；有四颗的，得到王者好运的权力。超过这个数目，在任何本命盘里行星都不会占住满度。但上升点与任何行星都不在满度的人，会总是困苦、无依、贫穷，被接连不断的苦难系于每一种不幸之险。

[5] Indeed, you ought to inspect this method carefully in all places and in all planets; for if the Ascendant is in full degrees, the natives will be very strong in substance of life, in virtue of mind, in quality of body, and in the power of authority. But those who have the Ascendant in empty degrees will be smaller in body, dejected in mind, weak in strength, always serving the more powerful, inferior to their equals in everything, and losing the authority of freedom in all their business.

〔五〕的确，你应当在一切宫位、一切行星上仔细察看这个方法；因为倘若上升点在满度，本命之人在生活的实质、心灵的德性、身体的品质与权威的力量上都会极为强健。但上升点在空度的人，会身材较小、心志消沉、力量虚弱，总是服侍更有权势的人，在一切事上都屈居同辈之下，在一切事务中失去自由的权威。

[6] In a similar way, too, the degree of the Midheaven, if it is found in empty degrees, renders the efficacy of its decree empty; but if in full degrees, it renders whole and uncorrupted everything that the place itself is wont to render; in a similar way the place of Fortune, in a similar way also the lord of the nativity, and in a similar way also the planet which we have indicated as bestowing occupations. For all of these, although they may be placed in favorable places, lose the power of their licence if they are not in full degrees; but if they have occupied full degrees, they decree with uncorrupted power all that we have promised they would decree.

〔六〕同样，中天的度数倘若被发现在空度，也使其论断的效力落空；但倘若在满度，就使那一宫惯常给予的一切都完好无损；幸运之宫同样如此，本命之主也同样如此，我们指明为赐予作为的那颗行星也同样如此。因为这一切，即使落在吉利的宫位，倘若不在满度，就失去其许可的力量；但倘若占住了满度，就以完好的力量判定我们所许诺它们会判定的一切。

[7] I shall therefore set out the full and the empty degrees, so that no spite of envy may stain the secrets of this discipline; I shall also give the names of the decans, so that all that we promised may be conveyed to you, making a beginning in Aries. For those degrees are full in which you find the names of the decans, and those are empty which the decans have left bare.

〔七〕所以我要列出满度与空度，好让嫉妒的恶意不玷污这门学问的奥秘；我还要给出十度区的名字，好让我们所许诺的一切都传达给你，从白羊开始。因为你在其中找到十度区名字的那些度是满的，被十度区留空的那些度是空的。

[8] I. Aries. In this sign, that is, in Aries, we shall show with specific indication which degrees are full and which are empty. In Aries, then, there are 12 full degrees and 18 empty degrees.

[20] The ancients left this method wrapped in various obscurities, so that this most true and unchangeable method might not come to the knowledge of all. And even the great Petosiris touched on this part only lightly, not because he did not know it (for he reached all the secrets of the divine), but because he was unwilling to teach it, lest he leave behind an undying instruction of his work. So when you have gathered with careful reasoning the force of all the planets, of the Ascendant, and of all the places, look last at the number of the degrees, and inquire, for each planet and each place, which of them rest in empty degrees. For then, in accordance with what we said before, you will be able to explain the substance of the whole decree.

〔二十〕古人把这个方法裹在种种晦涩之中留下来，免得这最真实、不可改变的方法传到众人耳中。就连伟大的佩托西里斯也只是轻轻触及这一部分，不是因为他不知道（因为他通达了神圣者的一切奥秘），而是因为他不愿传授，免得留下他著作的不朽教诲。所以，当你以细致的道理汇集了一切行星、上升点与一切宫位的力量之后，最后看度数，就每颗行星、每个宫位探究其中哪些停在空度。因为那时，依照我们前面所说的，你就能解释整个论断的实质。
