X. Mercury and Jupiter.
[1] Mercury placed partilely with Jupiter in the Ascendant in a day nativity will make men illustrious and glorious, set over cities, or among the ten foremost men of the greatest cities, judges, and men who restore the laws to provinces or cities, but men who always rejoice in just causes. But if they have been found so by night, it makes procurators, or agents, or overseers of business, but of great or powerful men; at times it makes scribes, overseers of accounts, banking tables, storehouses, and trading, and indeed men who are shrewd and talented, and on whom the greatest good fortune is conferred from the excellence of their talent.
[2] Mercury and Jupiter placed partilely in the second place from the Ascendant in a day nativity will make heirs to another's patrimony, men adopted by strangers, masters of many estates and of deposited goods, and men on whom the greatest increases of good fortune are conferred in the course of time. But if they have been found partilely in this place by night, they will make men rather foolish, men whose good fortune is not lasting, and whom the course of life very often deceives.
[3] Jupiter and Mercury placed partilely in the third place from the Ascendant will make magi, but illustrious men, always strong in goodness, hymn-writers, or bearers of the gods, or guardians of temples, or men who initiate and consecrate men into religious rites and who foreknow the future by the warning of the gods, or they will make overseers of sacred contests. Jupiter and Mercury placed together in the 9th place from the Ascendant decree these same things.
[4] Mercury and Jupiter placed together in the fourth place from the Ascendant will make inventors of reckoning and of instruments, or curators or guardians of minors, but men who undertake the care and protection of women; some find certain things by chance, others know the ways to hidden treasures, from which the greatest good fortune is procured for them.

[5] Jupiter and Mercury placed partilely in the fifth place from the Ascendant decree the same things in a like manner both by day and by night; for many powers and nobility are conferred in the course of time; and they will be very easygoing in all their actions, and men who easily attain what they wish. Placed together in the 11th place of the nativity, they decree these same things.
[6] Mercury and Jupiter placed partilely in the sixth place from the Ascendant decree the same things in a like manner by night and by day, if they have been found in morning rising; for they will make men easy in all business, fiscal officers, or overseers of certain lawsuits or contests and their examination, or of accounts, or of trading, or of certain religious rites, so that they have the greatest resources from the revenues of the gods, especially if, with these so placed, some planet has been placed in the tenth place from the Ascendant.
[7] But if the Moon is moving in such a way that, placed in the 10th place from the Ascendant, it joins itself to them by its aspect, they will be rich and affluent, masters of much money or of much gold, men who obtain the greatest fruits of their possessions, fortunate, blessed, and men who arrange the affairs of kings by their intercession, collectors of the royal grain supplies or of fiscal moneys, set over provinces and cities.
[8] But if the nativity is by day and, with Jupiter placed with Mercury in the sixth place, no planet has been found in the 10th place from the Ascendant, it will make men middling in life, in patrimony, and in actions. But if they have been found so by night, they render interpreters in business, and fishermen, or augurs, or sculptors, or men always hindered by laborious actions, or performing servile duties, or placed in such arts as are squalid with heavy smells and heavy filth, that is, either fullers, or leather-dressers, or makers of Gallic shoes, or bakers, or wool-workers, or the like.

[9] Mercury placed together with Jupiter in the seventh place from the Ascendant, that is, in the Descendant, decrees the same things in a like manner both by night and by day. For it will cause the greatest good fortune to be conferred by women, and will make men set over public offices, and leaders of peoples or of cities, or among the ten foremost men, of rather long life and a good old age, of good counsels and character, and men who always desire good things. But these things are diminished in night nativities if Saturn has aspected Mercury so placed with Jupiter from opposition or from a square, or if it has been found with them.
[10] Mercury and Jupiter placed partilely in the eighth place from the Ascendant, if they have been found so in a day nativity, will make men middling in life, and men who procure the supports of life for themselves from certain discoveries. For they bring infamy on the youth of some, but in the course of time they decree moderate increases of substance. But if they have been found in this place by night, either they find something from which they have the greatest support of life, or no small inheritance will be conferred on them, and in the course of time they are raised up by the greatest good fortune; yet they will make them afflicted with defects in body and feeble.
[11] Mercury and Jupiter placed in the ninth place decree those things which they decreed when placed in the third place of the nativity.
[12] Mercury and Jupiter in the tenth place from the Ascendant decree great undertakings, great administrations, and great powers, according to the measure of the nativity.
[13] Mercury and Jupiter placed partilely in the eleventh place from the Ascendant decree those things which we said they decree in the fifth place.
[14] Mercury and Jupiter placed together in the twelfth place from the Ascendant, if Mercury is a morning star, will make scribes of the king or of the senate, or shorthand secretaries of princes, or men who protect the greatest cities, but men who give offense greatly and frequently, and who in the last period of life are weighed down by the burden of misfortune, or who perish by a violent death, if they have been so placed in a night nativity. For in a day nativity they continue for some little while in these actions and in these offices and do not frequently give offense. But Mercury placed with Jupiter in this place as an evening star will give rather slow actions and an unfavorable fate, and some will be entangled in common or laborious actions.

[10] Mercury and Jupiter placed partilely in the eighth place from the Ascendant, if they have been found so in a day nativity, will make men middling in life, and men who procure the supports of life for themselves from certain discoveries.
[11] Mercury and Jupiter placed in the ninth place decree those things which they decreed when placed in the third place of the nativity.

But Mercury placed with Jupiter in this place as an evening star will give rather slow actions and an unfavorable fate, and some will be entangled in common or laborious actions.

[1] If Mercury and Mars have been placed partilely in the degree of the Ascendant, in a day nativity of course, they will make men subject to the spitting of blood, sufferers from heart disease, short-lived, and unfortunate; for they will cause them to be condemned either on the occasion of women, or through the allurements of love, or through hidden writings, or for sorcery, or for forgery; and they make them perish by a violent death.
[2] But if they have been found partilely in the Ascendant by night, they will make great men, overseers of great religious rites, generals, or heralds, or protectors, or guardsmen of emperors, very great administrators, on whom the greatest good fortune is conferred from the outcome of battles. But if Saturn has aspected Mercury and Mars so placed by night from a square or from opposition, it will make them men in danger and men who are very often deceived; for they are hindered in all their actions; for Saturn so placed will make men idle and without a craft, and men who are weighed down by every burden of misfortune.
[3] Mercury placed together with Mars in the second place from the Ascendant in a day nativity: they cause the natives to be exposed, and if they have been reared, they make them fugitives in some way; they will frequently make them exiles, at times captives too, and they will often cause them to be stripped bare by confiscation. Some they entangle in grave ailments or severe defects, others they will make die a violent death, if they have cast their rays on the Moon at full light. If they have been found so by night, they will make men of evil mind, malicious, obscure, timid, and yet bold, and men who are deceived in all their actions, but it makes their actions manifold; for they will be either tax farmers, or collectors of revenues, or government informers. Some it makes insane in mind or frenzied.

XI. Mercury and Mars.
Some it makes insane in mind or frenzied.

[4] Mercury and Mars placed together in the third place from the Ascendant will cause the natives to have their substance of livelihood from actions involving fire or iron; and they will be such that they learn the future beforehand and always spend their time in temples; but they are fearsome to all who do business, even if they know nothing or do nothing, but men who in the course of time have increases of good fortune.
[5] Mercury placed together with Mars in the fourth place from the Ascendant, that is, in the lower Midheaven, will make men sluggish, humble in all their actions and in every fortune; and they will continually carry on enmities with their parents or their relatives by marriage, so that the greatest plots are always brought against their parents or relatives by marriage through them. They will also be sureties, and from this they are shaken by the greatest dangers and come down to lowliness and poverty; and when this has happened to them, they will be authors of certain forbidden arts, or go-betweens, or, caught as accomplices in certain matters, they are entangled in the greatest snares of dangers, so that they are struck by the penalty of condemnation. Others, placed in these calamities, are overwhelmed by the onsets of a great and long sickness, especially if, so placed, they have seen the Moon from opposition or from a square. If Mercury and Mars and the Moon have been found by night in the fourth place of the nativity, it will make commanders, tribunes, generals, powerful administrators, but men who perish by a violent death.
[6] Mercury placed partilely with Mars in the fifth place from the Ascendant: they render men strong, manly, athletes unconquered in every contest, but men who are taken to various places for the sake of a dwelling, and on whom the greatest allowances are conferred from the public treasury or from the fisc for the sake of their sustenance. And they make them superior in every contest and fearsome to their opponents.
[7] Mercury and Mars placed partilely in the sixth and in the 12th place from the Ascendant decree these same things in a like manner; for if they have been placed in these places by day, they decree the greatest ailments and defects. And they cause them to be placed in custody, to have acquaintance with prison, and to be condemned on some accusation or other; for they are either attacked or informed against or bound by false entrapments in crimes; for they are attacked or informed against by slaves, and through slaves, or by men of servile condition, or by those who have been placed in custody on account of some crime, and they perish with the greatest torments and with the greatest violence and cruelty, especially if, placed in these places, they have aspected the full Moon from some side.
[8] But if Mercury has been placed with Mars by night in the 6th or in the 12th place from the Ascendant, it makes men entangled in many debts and much interest on loans; and they will cause agitations of mind and seizures. They also render them sluggish in all their actions and decree the greatest accusations and grave envy, but such as come either from slaves or on account of slaves. Others will be torturers of slaves, so as to wear them out by hunger, or blows, or torments, or continual exactions of labor. And those who have Mercury placed with Mars in these places will never persevere in their actions, because they pass from one action to another.

[9] Mercury placed partilely with Mars in the seventh place from the Ascendant, that is, in the Descendant: if they have been found partilely in this place by day, they compel those who have it so to kill a woman or their own wife with their own hand, or on account of a woman, or on account of their wife, or on account of the perverse desires of some love, they will kill themselves or others, or for some such crime committed they cause them to be placed in public custody or in prison and to be condemned on this accusation.
[10] But in general, whoever have Mercury and Mars so, homicides and deaths are brought to completion in their persons according to the quality of the signs; for they will be either highway robbers, or brigands, or assassins, or pirates, or the like, and, caught in these crimes, they are struck by the severe penalty of a sentence.
[11] But placed so in a night nativity, they will cause them to be cheated by women through unjust actions, or to be joined to mannish women and to have children by them, and always to be wrapped in great vices.
[12] Mercury placed partilely with Mars in the eighth place from the Ascendant, if it has been found so by day, will make men such that they can attain nothing of the things they desire, but men in danger, and men who lose their whole patrimony utterly. And some will be insane and raving; others are thrown into custody or will be condemned, and frequently they end by a violent death.
[13] But if they have been found in this place by night, they will procure some resources for themselves from evil arts or evil offices, and men who grow day by day by evil and wicked actions. They will be thieves, or burglars, or men who are accustomed, with obstinate greed, to deny having things commended to them or entrusted to their good faith, or devisers or executors of wicked crimes. For they make torturers, or executioners, or betrayers of their own people, men who procure for themselves the greatest substance of fortune and resources from these arts, but death will come to them with violence or with certain grievous torments, or they die suffering from the affliction of grave insanity.

[14] Mercury placed together with Mars in the ninth place from the Ascendant will make men unjust, irreligious, perjured, but with this error of mind ministers of the gods nonetheless, yet men who rob and strip these very gods whom they serve, and who make the offerings of the temples their plunder. But they do this most of all if they have been found far from the rays of the Sun, or in each other's degrees, or in the house of the Sun [lacuna] these things will be stronger [text uncertain], if, with them so placed, the Moon, full of light, has joined itself to them from a square or from opposition.
[15] Mars and Mercury placed together in the tenth place from the Ascendant make men wretched and ineffective; and they will delight in continual voyages and will be lovers of the wrestling schools, and men who sell their life to powerful men or kings on account of some vice. And they will always have some blemish or defect, according to the quality and substance of the signs.
[16] But Mercury placed together with Mars always places the natives in public actions, or in administrations, or in occupations, but they never persevere in these actions for long stretches of time; for, being either attacked or accused, they are removed, and frequently they are brought into the courts, and at times they are overwhelmed by false accusations; and from these misfortunes their patrimonies are so squandered that they are shaken by heavy interest on loans; and through some pledge or surety too they are overwhelmed by grave kinds of losses or condemnations.
[17] But if Jupiter has joined itself in some association of testimony to Mercury and Mars placed together, or if it has been found together with them, it will make men great in all their actions and occupations, men to whom many affairs are entrusted, and who in like manner both lose and gain substance. But if Venus has joined itself to them by some aspect, or if it has been found together with them, it will make collectors for the emperors who demand the yearly payments to the fisc, auditors, fiscal officers, and men who are accustomed to handle great business.
[18] But Mercury with Mars decrees different and manifold kinds of actions or administrations; for this variety arises according to the quality and substance of the signs. For placed in the house of Mercury or in its degrees, they make lovers of the wrestling school or athletes destined for public contests. But placed in the signs of Mars or in its degrees, they render men fond of fighting, lovers of arms, soldiers, hunters, men who willingly rear wild beasts, and overseers of wild beasts, messengers or couriers of kings. But placed in the house of Venus or in its degrees, they make linen-weavers, weavers of tunics, embroiderers, dyers, men who deal in some way in spices, or gems, or pearls.
But placed in the house of Jupiter or in its degrees they make overseers, tribunes, and men holding regions or certain cities; placed in the house of Saturn or in its degrees, men handling wicked and criminal offices; for they will make torturers, executioners, murderers, informers, betrayers of their own people. But in the house of the Sun or of the Moon, they make bronze-workers, ironworkers, makers of statues, furriers, dyers of leather, men who seek the supports of life from fire or from iron. For the change of signs decrees the conduct of different kinds of business.
[19] Mercury placed together with Mars in the eleventh place will make men always perish in battle; others it will make lovers of the wrestling school, others lovers of arms, but men strong in counsel, and men who always receive fortunate advancement from all their actions.
[20] What Mercury and Mars do when placed in the twelfth place from the Ascendant, the sixth place has shown specifically.
