V. On the Sun.
[1] The Sun placed in the degree of the Ascendant will give brothers only with difficulty; but placed in a masculine sign, in its own house or in its exaltation, and joined by the aspect of a benefic planet or protected by benefics, it grants the insignia of great nobility. But if, with the Sun placed in the Ascendant, malefic planets approach closely with their rays, it weakens the sharpness of the eyes for the most part. But since we have said that it decrees the greatest good fortune, we ought to explain everything in detail.
[2] Placed partilely with Saturn in the angle of the Ascendant, in the degrees we have mentioned, by day, it will make emperors and kings; but if its strength has been slightly impeded, it will make men of consular and proconsular rank, and it gives ordinary consulships. But if Mars has aspected the Sun so placed, as we have described, or if it is placed with it, it decrees military commands, imperial authority, and powers, but with the greatest envy and with great dangers and impediments, with great battles or difficulties.
[3] But if, with the Sun placed partilely by day in the Ascendant in the signs we have mentioned, Jupiter has occupied another angle of the nativity, and Mars is found partilely in the Midheaven, in a masculine sign of course, and the Moon too is in some angle of the nativity, full of light, or in the succedents of the angles, it will make the native's commands extend over the whole world, so that, once he is placed in such an administration of power, his power, although he is not lord and king, is nevertheless directed through the expanses of the whole world.

[4] But if Mars is in the Midheaven or in the Descendant, with the Sun and Jupiter placed as we have said, and the Moon is found with Mars or in the Midheaven, with full light of course, or in the eighth place of the nativity, it makes the natives, being generals or kings or administrators, die a violent death, or will cause them to be captured in some way and laid low by an evil death, according of course to the nature and substance of the signs. At times it will cause the native to be removed from his honors and cast down from all power.
[5] And even if Mars is not joined with the Moon in the way we have described, and is found alone in the angles of the nativity or in their cadent places or their succedents, with the Sun placed in the Ascendant as we said before, it will nonetheless make the natives, being generals or kings or administrators, captives, or make them die a violent death, or be removed from their power with the utmost disgrace. And if the Sun is found in the degree of the Ascendant and Saturn has occupied the Midheaven partilely, it likewise makes kings, generals, and very powerful administrators.
[6] If, with the Sun and Saturn so placed, Mars is found in the second or in the eighth place from the Ascendant, and the Moon, full of light, is found in the other angles, or in the second place from the Ascendant, or in the eighth with Mars, it makes the natives, being generals or kings or administrators, die a violent death and makes them exiles and captives. [7] But if the Sun is found in the degree of the Ascendant and the Moon is found in the other angles of the nativity or in the succedents or the cadent places of the angles, and Mars joins itself to them by no aspect, while the star of Jupiter is either placed with the Sun in the degree of the Ascendant or found in the other angles or in the succedents or the cadent places of the angles, the natives will be kings and will hold the government of the whole world, overthrowing some cities and raising up others. But if Mars, so placed, aspects the Sun, the Moon, and Jupiter, or is placed with them, or is found in the angles or in the succedents or the cadent places of the angles, it will bring evil deaths to those we have mentioned, and it also decrees defects and ailments; but the ailments and defects and the manners of death are decreed according to the nature of the signs and according to those parts of the body which, as we have said, are distributed among the signs.
[8] But if, with all these placed as we have said, Saturn is found in the succedents or in the cadent places of the angles, they will not indeed have so great an imperial power as we have described; nonetheless it will make them men of the greatest power and famous judges, or commanders of great legions, or tribunes, effective and fearsome, but not continuing in these ranks and powers; rather it will make them captives, or cause them to be driven into exile, or makes them perish by a violent death.

[9] The Sun placed platically in the sign of the Ascendant will make the natives freeborn and noble; but with the Sun placed platically in the sign of the Ascendant, if Jupiter and Venus and Mercury are placed in the other angles of the nativity, it will make great men, for whom the greatest good fortune in goods is provided by their parents, and who grow up from early life amid good and prosperous circumstances, so that they are always untouched by the onset of poverty.
[10] But if Saturn aspects all these so placed from trine or from sextile, or is even placed together with them, lasting good fortune is decreed for them. But if Mars, with all of them so placed, that is, the Sun in the sign of the Ascendant, Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury in the other angles, and Saturn placed in trine or in sextile or in the same place with them, aspects them with some aspect, or is placed with them, or aspects all of them from square, or joins itself from opposition to this mixture of planets, it will make the greatest judges, powerful, having the power of life and death, but thieves, rapacious, and men who seize the property of others at the greedy prompting of desire. But nonetheless, after the greatest plundering, or after the greatest robberies, or after immense thefts, it makes these same men exiles or makes them die a violent death.
[11] But if the Sun is found by night in the sign of the Ascendant, it causes the native to be born of a lowlier family. But if by night Saturn or Mars aspects by square or by opposition the Sun placed in the Ascendant, or they are together with it, and it joins itself to them by any aspect, it destroys the elder brothers, and also overthrows and squanders the substance of the native's own life and the whole substance of the patrimony, and all his activities as well [text uncertain]. And the Sun placed in any of the angles of the nativity will always weaken all the elder brothers, or makes the one who has it so the first-born among all his brothers.

[12] The Sun placed in the second place from the Ascendant will make the natives men who acquire their patrimony by their own efforts, and gentle and good throughout their whole lives. But it makes these same men sickly and of short life, and will cause them to be impeded by various adversities, men always anxious throughout their lives with various alarms and fears.
[13] But if, with the Sun placed in this place, Venus and Jupiter aspect it with a good aspect, either from trine or from sextile, or if they are placed with it, it will give some sudden good and no small increases of good fortune; for it will cause men who were lying low and cast off to be brought into public life with an increase of rank. But this is decreed for the native with great toil and with the greatest impediment, and with a voluntary sacrifice of patrimony. Hence whoever has the Sun so placed should strive after nothing and venture on nothing, since he knows that with the Sun so placed he is impeded in all his actions.
[14] The Sun placed in the third place from the Ascendant decrees an evil death for the father and will make those who have it so feeble, but good and weighty in counsel; and it will make procurators of cities, or men who handle the public accounts, or men set over the treasury, or advocates of the treasury, if Jupiter and Mercury join themselves to it by a good aspect; but they will obtain wife and children rather late.
[15] But if it is placed in the third place of the nativity, in its own house, or in the house of Jupiter, or in the house of Venus, or in the house of Mercury, or in its own exaltation, or in the exaltation of Jupiter or Venus or Mercury, it will make devout worshipers of the gods, men who dedicate with religious consecrations images of the gods made by themselves, and who preside over the building of temples at the command of emperors or judges. Placed in other signs, as we have said, it causes them to perform base offices or some servile ministry in the temples.
[16] But if, with the Sun placed in the third place from the Ascendant, Saturn or Mars joins itself to it by some aspect, or if they are with it, it will make the natives perjurers, faithless, and wretched on this account through frequent public censure, debauchees, men who always frequent squalid and hidden places, who utter impious words against the divinity, but who are inflamed with constant weariness of mind.

[17] The Sun placed partilely in the fourth place from the Ascendant, if, placed in this place, it is struck by some aspect of Mars and Saturn, decrees death first for the father and brings about the overthrow of the whole family or the ruin of the whole patrimony. For the one who has it so, it decrees harassments and very many vexations, adversities, and impediments for the most part. But it will make a good old age, so that the greatest gains are conferred on the native when he is at that age; but he will be unstable in his affections toward his wife.
[18] The Sun placed in the fifth place from the Ascendant will make the natives lovable, honored, men who obtain everything easily and to whom everything is conferred through the help of friends. But if, with the Sun so placed, the star of Venus associates itself with it, present in the same sign, or joins itself to it from sextile, it grants the insignia of crowns and will adorn the native with the purple-bordered robe, and the greatest honors are conferred by the people on the one who has the Sun so. But if malefic planets are with the Sun in the same place, they will be able neither to decree nor to bring about any evil, because of the natural goodness of the place; it will harm only the children. But if it is found alone in that place, the good fortune we have described will be less, and it will harm the children in such a way that it imposes lasting childlessness, or that the native suffers the greatest torments of sorrow from the misfortune of his children.
[19] The Sun placed in the sixth place from the Ascendant decrees many evils; for it will always do harm and will bring serious and long sicknesses. But if, with the Sun so placed, Mars is found in the Ascendant, it will indeed bring public activities, but it frequently inflicts wounds from iron on the native; and it will cause the father either to perish by an evil death, or to die soon, or to be condemned in some way, and it also causes the whole of his substance to perish in various ways, if, with the Sun placed in the sixth place, no planet is found in the tenth place from the Ascendant, that is, in the Midheaven.
For if, with the Sun placed in the sixth place, any planet whatever occupies the tenth place, that is, the Midheaven, it will make the natives wealthy, rich, abounding, men for whom the greatest good fortune is provided by succession to their father. But if, with the Sun placed in the sixth place, no planet is placed in the Midheaven, but Jupiter and Venus are found with the Sun itself in the sixth place, whatever evils have been decreed are softened, and all the wickedness of misfortune is hindered.

[20] The Sun placed in the seventh place from the Ascendant decrees the greatest defects and ailments, especially if Mars and Saturn aspect the Sun so placed with some aspect, or if they are placed with it; for according to the nature of the malefic planet that is placed with it, it imposes defects and sicknesses [probably: — if Saturn, cold and damp ones;] [lacuna] if Mars, hot and fiery ones. But if the Moon is found with it in the seventh place, or if, with the Sun placed in the seventh place, the Moon is placed partilely in the Ascendant or in the Midheaven, it will make the natives great, powerful, noble, and men to whom the greatest powers are entrusted, especially if the Sun is placed in its own house, or in its exaltation, or in the house of Jupiter, and if the place of Fortune, found partilely and carefully by calculation, is placed in some angle.
[21] But if, with the Sun and the Moon so placed and with the place of Fortune so situated as well, Jupiter has held some angle of the nativity, it will make emperors and kings, but good and benevolent ones. It will also make powerful generals and administrators who are strong, temperate, and effective, subduing provinces and cities. But if, with all these placed as we have said, that is, the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter, and the place of Fortune, Mars and Saturn are placed in the second or in the eighth place from the Ascendant, they lose their imperial power and are removed from their honors or administrations with loss of rank, and they are crushed either by hostile nations or by adversaries and rivals. It will also cause them to bring death upon themselves with their own hands, and it will make these same men captives or exiles as well.
[22] But if, with the Sun placed in the seventh place of the nativity or in any other angle, Mercury, placed in the same place, joins itself to it, whether as a morning or as an evening star, it will make men of letters who attain the greatest and most varied knowledge of literature. But if, with the Sun and Mercury so placed, Saturn joins itself to them, it makes the natives malicious, malevolent, utterly wicked, and men who wish to have knowledge of difficult writings, or who themselves compose these same difficult writings.
[23] But if the Sun, Mercury, and Saturn are found so by night, they will make stonecutters, or preparers of corpses, or undertakers, or men to whom the care or guarding of tombs is entrusted. It will also make herdsmen, ox-drivers, shepherds, tamers of horses and mares, swineherds, and the like, according to the nature and power of the signs. And if, in a night nativity, with the Sun and Saturn placed in the seventh place, and Mercury too, Venus is found in the same place, or in the sixth place or in the twelfth, and, Saturn being so placed, Venus is with them, it will make eunuchs, and mannish women who never join themselves in intercourse with a man, or who, if they ever do join themselves to a man, will never conceive or bring forth offspring.
[24] But if, with these so placed, Mars joins itself to them by some aspect or is found with them, it will make hermaphrodites, in whom a double nature is joined. But if, with all these so placed, the Moon joins itself to them by some aspect or is found with them, they will make chief eunuch-priests of the Great Mother, men who cut off their own genitals with their own hands. They will also make pimps, men who wish to hire out prostitutes under their own management.
