III. Jupiter.
[1] If Jupiter is placed partilely in the first angle, that is, in the degree of the Ascendant, especially in those signs in which it rejoices, or in its own domiciles, or in its own terms, or in its exaltation, it will make the natives noble, glorious, always set over great cities, at times among the ten foremost men of great cities according to the measure of the nativity, good, charming, benevolent, cheerful, and rich, especially if it is found by day in the degrees of the Ascendant and if no malefic planet stands against it, so placed, from any side. For if a malefic planet aspects Jupiter so placed with a hostile aspect, everything whatever that Jupiter has decreed is for the most part diminished.
[2] But if it is found by night in the degree of the Ascendant, it will make the native the first-born among his brothers, or it destroys the one who was born before him, or separates him and settles him in distant regions and places, so that the native himself holds the chief place in his father's house. It makes him well reared and sets his parents in the greatest good fortune. But if, with Jupiter so placed by night, a malefic planet stands against it, it will squander the whole of the father's and the mother's property.
[3] And Jupiter placed in the angles of the nativity will always either make the natives first-born or destroy their elder brothers, so that the native alone, as I said above, holds the chief place in his father's house. But if, with Jupiter placed by night or by day in the Ascendant, the waxing Moon joins itself to it by any aspect, it will make the greatest administrators, governors of cities, and men often set over the greatest affairs.

[4] Jupiter placed in the second place from the Ascendant decrees inheritances from outsiders and will cause the native to be adopted by outsiders; and it will give ownership of great movable goods and of very great estates, if Mercury, itself well placed, joins itself by a good aspect to Jupiter so placed. But if Mars or Saturn from any side aspects Jupiter so placed, in association with Mercury of course, it will frequently change the native's status and cause him to be carried over from good actions to bad; and the one who has Jupiter so will always be changeable throughout his whole life in shifting variety, so that now he abounds in riches, now he is weighed down by the burden of poverty.
[5] Jupiter placed in the third place from the Ascendant is neither good nor bad, but is always tempered with even moderation, so that at times the natives' patrimonies are squandered, and at times unhoped-for riches are bestowed on them.
[6] Jupiter placed partilely in the fourth place from the Ascendant, that is, in the lower Midheaven, makes very great jurists, or lawgivers, or interpreters of the laws and men skilled in law. It also makes lovers and keepers of beasts of burden; according to the quality of the signs, messengers of kings or of generals or of judges, men to whom the chief care and charge of the public post is entrusted, and men who are sent hither and thither in frequent journeys by the public post at the command of emperors or generals. It will make them known to emperors, set over public affairs, men who commit themselves to the protection of the gods and ask remedies of the gods, and to whom the gods show the right road by frequent signs. Very many, when they have Jupiter so, know the future beforehand and frequently hold the highest honors in the temples; and others, according to the quality of the signs, find treasures. And Jupiter so placed always decrees a happy old age right up to death.
[7] But if, with Jupiter so placed, the Sun is placed in opposition to it, it makes the father noble and glorious, but it will squander his patrimony around the middle period of life and afterward gather it again. The native will be rather slow in intercourse with women and separated from the affections of children. But if it is found by night, it will make men of moderate substance who become more fortunate with the passage of time.

[5] Jupiter placed in the third place from the Ascendant is neither good nor bad, but is always tempered with even moderation, so that at times the natives' patrimonies are squandered, and at times unhoped-for riches are bestowed on them.

[8] Jupiter placed in the fifth place from the Ascendant decrees great increases of good fortune; it makes the native honored in the greatest public affairs, especially if it is found in its domiciles, or in its terms, or in its exaltation, or in the house of the Sun. But if, with Jupiter so placed, Mars joins itself to it by a good aspect, it will make generals and will also give power over life and death. But if, without Mars, Mercury and the Moon join themselves from any side to Jupiter so placed, it will make procurators of kings or fiscal officers.
But if, without all of these, Venus alone joins itself to it from any side, it will make men adorned with an abundance of good fortune; for, as we said above, if it is placed so with Mars, the one who has it so will always be conspicuous with royal power, and his judgments will be such as if divine teachings were being delivered by him to all men. The one who has it so will be strong in body, with sturdy bones.
[9] And if it has received the conjunction of the waxing Moon together with its wind, it will beget men of a divine and almost immortal substance. When Jupiter is so placed, one must always observe by which wind the Moon, as it runs, is carried toward it; for this principle is difficult to grasp. For if, with Jupiter placed in the north, the Moon, departing from the south, joins itself to it with waxing and full light, Jupiter of course being placed in the fifth place from the Ascendant and in those signs in which it rejoices, or in its domiciles, or in its exaltation, and by day only, it will make invincible emperors who hold the government of the whole world, especially if, with Jupiter so placed, the Sun, in those signs in which it rejoices or in which it is exalted, joins itself to it by a trine aspect. And by day it rejoices when adorned with the aspect of the Sun and Saturn, especially if it is placed in a morning rising.

[10] But if Jupiter so placed, as we have said, has received the waning Moon, it will make men of honorable character, raised up by the favor of a moderate rank, on whom the burden of poverty never falls. But if, with Jupiter so placed, the waxing Moon joins itself to it in the simple manner, without that conjunction of winds we have described, it will make administrators of consular rank, frequently even ordinary consuls, especially if it is a day nativity. But if Mercury joins itself to it by association and aspect, it decrees long years and the greatest spans of life; it will also give children of both sexes or twins, especially if Jupiter itself is the lord of the nativity, or the lord of the degree of the Ascendant, or the lord of the sign in which the lord of the nativity is placed. But if in a night nativity it is placed against the giver of life (for Jupiter does not rejoice in night nativities), it takes away twelve years from whatever age has been decreed.
[11] And also, if in a night nativity Mars or Venus or the Moon shows itself to it in a contrary course, it will make the native entangled in the greatest vices, according of course to the nature and substance of the signs. For so placed in human signs it will make them lustful and perverse in their loves with insane desire, doing the things that women are accustomed to do. So placed in four-footed signs it will make hunters and lovers of wild beasts, men whom the wildernesses of the forests always delight and who are caught up in constant toil. In earthy signs it will make herbalists and men wishing to know more than the substance of human nature allows; in watery signs, fishermen and men whose livelihood lies by a river or the sea or marshes, toilsome indeed and often living by these arts.
[12] But if, with Jupiter so placed in a night nativity and with those we have named opposing it, the Moon separates from it, it will make an uneven life and imposes rather frequent miseries. But this evil will be tempered in some measure if the Moon, so separating from it, joins itself to Venus by a favorable aspect. But if, with Jupiter so placed, the Moon separating from it has the conjunction of no planet, it decrees the greatest misfortunes, toils, and miseries. But if, with Jupiter so placed, the Moon, separating from it and in a way fleeing, throws itself by square or opposition into the rays of Mars, it will make them die a violent death, according to the natural form and substance of the sign. For if, in a night nativity, Mars aspects by opposition, in the manner we have described, the Moon thus separating from Jupiter, it will bring quarrels, dangers, and always great struggles with an inferior. Hence by night in this sign Jupiter frequently decrees evil calamities.

[13] Jupiter placed in the sixth place from the Ascendant decrees the greatest evils; for it will frequently cause the natives to be exposed, especially if, placed in the sixth place, it is itself the lord of the sign in which the Ascendant or the Midheaven is placed, especially if it is in a night nativity and if it aspects the Sun or Saturn or Mars by opposition, and if, so placed, it aspects the waning Moon from square, or the waning Moon is with it in the same sign.
[14] But if, so placed, it receives the light of the waxing Moon without the aspect of any malefic planet, these things we have described are softened in some measure; and it makes goldsmiths or men who embroider garments with spun gold; at times it also makes money-changers. But nonetheless, even if it has granted these arts, it suddenly casts these same men down with frequent ruin. For the place, that is, the sixth, has its own special prerogative of malice, and whatever planet is in that place, that is, in the sixth, will borrow the greatest strength for decreeing evils from the fault of the place.
[15] Jupiter placed in the seventh place from the Ascendant, that is, partilely in the Descendant, in a day nativity of course, will make the natives wealthy and rich and decrees spans of a long and blessed old age; but when nocturnal it greatly upsets the place of children and of the spouse; for the native must lose a most dear and well-mannered wife, and he will see the wretched death of a beloved son or daughter. But if it is found by night in that place of the nativity, the native obtains increases of the patrimony as his age grows, but he will be of moderate substance, with means enough that he lacks nothing.
[16] Jupiter placed in the eighth place from the Ascendant frequently shakes the patrimony and makes the greatest enemies and frequent uprisings among the populace, and makes them always occupied in malicious activities; it also makes them ignoble and given to boasting a foolish boldness, perverse men whose fury goes on into madness, especially if, with Jupiter so placed, a malefic planet occupies some angle of the nativity. But if, placed in that place, it either has Mercury with it or aspects it by a trine aspect, and the waxing Moon joins itself to it by a good aspect, it will make either procurators of kings, or fiscal officers, or men to whom the power of bearing official messages is granted; and they will always die in early life.

[17] Jupiter placed in the ninth place from the Ascendant, if it is a day nativity, will make the native foretell all things to come and renders them always interpreters of the gods. Some also obtain priesthoods; for others it causes some gift to be conferred from the temples, but at times it also brings losses and agitations of mind. But if it is placed in that place by night, it always makes men who dream false dreams, who frequently tell lies about the gods, who promise themselves some hope from the oracular lots of the gods, and who always think themselves invigorated by this.
[18] Jupiter placed in the tenth place from the Ascendant, that is, partilely in the Midheaven by day, will make leaders in public affairs, will make the ten foremost men of the greatest cities and men on whom the greatest honors are conferred by the people, men who are illustrious and always wish to put themselves forward for the sake of display; but it renders them self-indulgent in their way of life. Some it also makes handle the affairs of great men or of emperors; others it will make wear the crown throughout their whole lives.
[19] So placed, it decrees the greatest good fortune if no malefic planet placed in the lower Midheaven stands against it. But if, with Jupiter so placed in the Midheaven, a malefic planet stands against it, whatever rank or honors or riches were conferred on the native in early life are all diminished and squandered in later life and utterly overthrown, unless the Descendant, that is, the seventh place from the Ascendant, is fortified by the light of another benefic planet. But if it is placed in the tenth place by night, it makes the natives honorable in character indeed, but easily deceived, and men whose patrimony perishes through frequent and swift squandering.

[20] Jupiter placed in the eleventh place from the Ascendant decrees the greatest good fortune and grants great renown; it also gives famous powers, and decrees the fasces and proconsular command as well, if the Sun and Venus join themselves to it by a good aspect, and if the Moon, departing from the south, joins itself full to Jupiter placed in the north, that is, if it is carried toward it on such a course as we described for the fifth place.
[21] But all these things are diminished and lose their efficacy if it is so placed in a night nativity. But if, with Jupiter so placed, Mars is opposed to it, placed in the eighth place of the nativity, the native, though set amid great and powerful good fortune and adorned with the greatest riches [lacuna] all, whatever honors or rank were conferred on him, is changed by the onset of miseries and misfortune.
[22] Jupiter placed in the twelfth place from the Ascendant decrees the greatest misfortunes; it always makes powerful enemies who frighten the native with frequent exercise of their power, especially if a malefic planet occupies the Ascendant partilely, or if, with Jupiter so placed, Mars is found in the seventh part from the Ascendant. For if, with Jupiter so placed, that is, in the twelfth place from the Ascendant, Mars is placed in the Descendant of the nativity, that is, in the seventh place from the Ascendant, it will without doubt bring about a violent death.
[23] These evils will be greater and overpowering with a heavier calamity if the Sun and Saturn aspect by opposition Jupiter placed in the twelfth place. And the natives will be poor and wretched if, with Jupiter so placed in a night nativity, the waning Moon sets itself in opposition to it. But if neither the Sun nor Saturn is in opposition to it, and they occupy good places of the nativity, and the Moon with waning light has not betaken itself to Jupiter, it will make those who have Jupiter so often strong in some subtle craft: goldsmiths, or embroiderers of garments with gold, or gilders, or mosaic-workers, or makers of certain works in silver. And whatever the art may be, it is sought after and praised if, with Jupiter so placed, the star of Venus joins itself to it in a favorable association.
[24] In the case of Jupiter too, inquire carefully into the dodecatemory, so that from the dodecatemory you may discover its strength by careful reasoning.
