XXVII. Chapter: On Fetters and Bonds.

[1] If a man is put in fetters through the anger of kings, or through a man's anger at his slave, [2] look at the Moon by herself at that hour, in which sign she is at the hour of his confinement: if at the hour in which he is fettered the Moon is in Aries, judge a swift release from those bonds.

[3] In Taurus he will remain a long time; and if he suffers this on account of property, that property he will lose, for it will be demanded and taken from him; but afterwards he will escape the prison and the pains himself, with his body, after hardship.

[4] In the Twins, if he has no release within the first three days, he will be worn down in misery, and those bonds will be drawn out for him.

[5] Cancer, again, will hold him for a long time in shameful plight.

[6] When she is carried over roaring Leo, pains will follow him on account of a mighty man, a greater one, a man of danger and power, and they will be with him not briefly but for long: he will not get free of the bonds until they have been drawn out for him.

[7] In Virgo, whatever you judge would sway this way and that, a mixture of good and evil, but the greater part is toward help, and what benefits him and gladdens him.

[8] In Libra there is escape: the one in those bonds will be saved from them.

[9] If the Moon steps in eight-footed Scorpio, she will hold him in shameful plight, and he will remain not for a short time, for the bonds will be drawn out and become chronic; yet in the end she releases him.

[10] The Archer sets the man in pains for a long time, and those bonds will be drawn out for him.

[11] Capricorn does the same, except that it will grant the loosening of the bond, and he will escape from those bonds.

[12] But in Aquarius and in Pisces they will remain a long time, worn down, toiling in grievous distress: those bonds will cling to him for his whole life, he will endure them, and he will not get free of them except with death.

[13] These things hold when the Moon alone is in those signs that I mentioned; for the positions of the planets alter her, and the positions of the malefics and their regard to the Moon change much of this description and transform it: that is, the benefics, being with her or regarding her, make the release swift, but the malefics no longer.

[14] If Jupiter is with the Moon, or in the Ascendant, or regards them, it signifies a quick escape from those bonds; and Venus signifies the same if she falls in that position.

[15] If Mercury and Jupiter are with the Moon, or regard the Moon, it signifies that his escape from those bonds will gain strength and swiftness, and they will quickly bring good things and the loosening of evils, by the leave of God the Exalted.

[16] But Mars, if he is with the Moon or regards her, afflicting her, signifies that in those bonds he will suffer whippings, blows, wounds and bloodshed, burning, or a bite or a sting, or a wound from an iron weapon, from which pain and suffering will enter upon him.

[17] If Saturn is with the Moon or regards her, that affliction will be drawn out and cling to him, and the evils will be hard to loose: it will not end except after toil and hardship.

[18] But if Maia's son, Phainon, and Ares are all together with the Moon, or all three regard her together, then man-destroying fate overtakes him in his bonds: his destruction will be in those bonds.

[19] Consider also the hour at which the binding begins, the Ascendant and the planets in it, and which planets testify to it, the hour that begot this and brought the man to this day.

[20] For the Ascendant signifies, for the one in fetters, the like of what the Moon signifies, good or evil; and for these the waning Moon will be better, while the waxing Moon will bring about worse things.

[21] And when the Moon, the queen, is about to loose her bond with the Sun (her loosening is when they have been together in one sign, in one degree), judge this a sign of escape from evils.

[22] Then the Moon goes on and moves away from the Sun; and when she is in opposition to the Sun, in the seventh sign, in the same condition as I mentioned for their conjunction, this is an indication that those bonds will bring hardship and harm, and then he will escape from them.

And if she makes her application to Cypris while Cypris is under the beams of the Sun, then she would free the mortal who has suffered terribly from his confinement and from unseemly pains.

[23] So too, making her application to Hermes when he is occidental and an evening star, she has given an escape from evils: it signifies escape from those bonds.

[24] In the middle signs, from the height of heaven to the setting, where the inclination is toward the south, mixing with Cypris and being with Hermes, she rescues from the bond quickly.

[25] And if the Aegis-bearer and Kronos are in trine to the round-eyed queen, regarding her, he will not get free until the bonds have been drawn out for him, but then he will be freed not without honour and glory, with good report and profit.

[26] The half-circle from the angle of the Midheaven to the angle of the fathers, the one that precedes, is called the side of descent and Libyan, which is the setting; and the half-circle from the angle of the fathers to the Midheaven, the one that follows, is called the side of ascent and eastern, which is the side of the Ascendant.

[27] If the Moon is in the side of descent, which is the setting, being in those same signs, and Mars too regards the Moon at that hour, it signifies that the one in bonds will quickly be released from them, by his death or alive.

But the Moon in the Libyan half-circle, harmed by Mars, signifies that the prisoner is held unjustly and will remain long in bonds; while in the eastern half-circle she promises release.

[28] If the Moon is in the Libyan parts, Mars regarding her from trine and Jupiter from square, it signifies that the one in fetters will be saved from his bonds and his prison.

[29] If Saturn is with the Moon, in whichever side it may be, and Jupiter regards her from the tenth or from square, from either side, this too signifies escape from the bonds.

[30] If Mars regards the Moon from square and Saturn is in opposition to her, harming her together, those bonds will be drawn out for him, they will hold the prisoner long in evils, and toil and hardship will enter upon him in getting free of them.

[31] If Mars regards the Moon from trine and Saturn from square, it signifies that the one in bonds will suffer affliction and strain; then the prisoners will break those bonds and fetters, or dig through the wall of the prison, or contrive some other such new thing, and he will escape from them by flight.

[32] One should look especially at the house of the fathers rather than the other angles, for the end is shown from it, and in it is the explanation of every outcome.

父母宫之角angle of the fathers即天底
