XV. On the Square.

第十五章　论四分相。

[1] This is the aspect of the square.

[1] 这是四分相的照见。

[2] If Saturn regards Jupiter from square, he diminishes the native's wealth, and whatever he plans turns into a burden upon him, so that he counsels against himself; his works are cut off, he is hindered in his undertakings or driven from his home, and he ruins his parents.

[2] 若土星以四分相照见木星，会减损此人的钱财，他所谋划的事都反成他的负担，等于自己与自己作对；他的事业中断，所为受阻，或流离失所，并且败坏父母。

In both squares he ruins and overturns the property of his parents, and the patrimony vanishes entirely; this is strongest when Saturn is above Jupiter, overcoming him, and Jupiter is in the left-hand square.

两种四分（左方、右方）都会败坏、颠覆父母的财产，父产尽失；当土星在木星之上压制它、木星处在左方四分时，这种情形最重。

[3] But if Jupiter overcomes Saturn, the harm is less: his parents attain honour, though only in some stations, and the child gains a livelihood according to the measure of the configuration and of the position, so that he is moderate in wealth, neither rich nor poor.

[3] 但若木星压制土星，损害就轻些：他的父母能得到荣誉，只是限于某些境地；孩子按这个配置与位置的分寸得到生计，钱财中等，不富也不穷。

[4] If Saturn is in square with Mars and Saturn is in the tenth sign, overcoming him, the native will be of little application and disorderly, weak in body, constantly beset by illnesses of fever, chills, and shivering; he is contentious, wastes the property of his fathers, and sees the death of his brothers.

[4] 若土星与火星成四分，土星在第十宫压制火星，此人不肯用功，行事无序，身体虚弱，常患发热、寒战之病；好与人争执，耗尽父辈的财产，并见兄弟之死。

[5] If Mars is the higher, in the tenth place from Saturn, and Saturn is below him in the fourth, he hastens the father to death before the mother, and the fathers do not last long; the natives are in part active and effective in their lives, yet they ruin the property of their fathers, for this configuration is destructive of the patrimony; they envy their fathers and harm their sustenance, and are themselves envied by their own people.

[5] 若火星在上，处于土星起算的第十宫，土星在其下的第四宫，就会使父亲先于母亲早死，父辈不长寿；本人一生中尚有部分作为，办事有成，却会败坏父辈的财产，因为这个配置毁坏父产；他们嫉妒父辈、损及父辈的生计，自己也遭家人嫉妒。

[6] If Saturn regards the Sun when it is in his square, in the tenth sign from him, so that the Sun overcomes Saturn, he ruins the inheritance of his fathers and is at enmity with his relatives, who become his enemies; he is clear in mind but clouded in his works, illnesses follow one upon another, he suffers in bonds, toils for his livelihood, and is obscure and unknown in his own city.

[6] 若土星照见处于其四分、在它第十宫的太阳，也就是太阳压制土星，此人会败坏父辈的遗产，与亲属为敌，家人成仇；他心境清明而所为浑浊，疾病接连不断，身受羁绊之苦，为生计劳碌，在本城默默无闻。

[7] If Saturn is the one overcoming the Sun in the square, the father falls from his position or is struck with derangement or convulsions, or flees, or is hastened to death, dying before the mother.

[7] 若是土星在四分中压制太阳，父亲会失去地位，或神志错乱、抽搐，或逃亡，或早早死去，先于母亲而亡。

The children too fail, falling into many harms and bodily troubles: leprosy, which is the worst of diseases, or a coldness of the belly that harms them, and above all chills and fevers; and they will be cold in body and in their undertakings.

孩子们也会失意，陷入种种伤害与身体病痛：麻风——最恶的病——或腹中寒冷而受其害，最多的是寒热交作；他们身体冷，做事也冷淡。

[8] If Saturn is in square with Venus, overcoming her, it signifies his falling from position and his rejection by women, so that he is empty of good and finds no favour with women, unfortunate in what he undertakes, and every evil comes upon him, with many misfortunes and mournings from female persons.

[8] 若土星与金星成四分并压制她，主此人失位，被女人拒斥，毫无好处，在女人面前不得欢心，所图多不成，种种祸患临身，又因女性之人遭许多不幸与丧事。

[9] But if Venus is the one overcoming Saturn, he will be dutiful though difficult, and he will be granted a good wife of rank and of better family than his own, kindly and affectionate, though pleased with herself, in accord with his fathers, and much loved by her husband; his marriage will be illustrious.

[9] 但若是金星压制土星，此人孝顺而难相处，会娶得一位好妻子，有地位，门第比他高，温厚多情，只是自视颇高，与他的父辈相合，深爱丈夫；他的婚姻显赫。

[10] If Saturn is in square with Mercury, in the tenth sign from Mercury, he brings much affliction on such natives: he makes the native mean, cold and sluggish in his work, meeting many oppositions and contrary opinions, controlled by others in his tasks, deceitful and envious, fond of finding fault with others; and he is afflicted besides, lisping, mute, or deaf.

[10] 若土星与水星成四分，在水星起算的第十宫，会给这类人带来许多苦难：使他卑下，做事冷淡迟缓，多逢阻碍，意见与人相左，事业受制于人，诡诈而好嫉妒，喜欢挑别人的毛病；他身上还有缺陷，口齿不清，或哑，或聋。

[11] If Mercury overcomes Saturn, it is not good, but the evils I have mentioned are lighter.

[11] 若水星压制土星，也不好，但上面所说的祸患会轻一些。

[12] If Saturn is in square with the Moon, he harms the native of that nativity; if Saturn is in the tenth place from her, overcoming her, his mother dies an evil death, and a defect comes upon him in his gait, with chronic illness in his body, many diseases and dangers and continual fluxes; he succeeds in none of his work and ruins the property of his mothers, and some of them have been hostile to their fathers.

[12] 若土星与月亮成四分，会伤害这张盘的主人；若土星在她起算的第十宫压制她，他的母亲会不得好死，他自己走路有缺陷，身患慢性病，多病多险，流液不止；做事一无所成，败坏母亲的财产；其中也有与父亲为敌的。

[13] But if the Moon is in the tenth from Saturn, overcoming him, his misfortune comes early in his years: the native will be sickly, inactive, and of little wealth, hostile to his mother, destroying her property, and troubled with fluxes.

[13] 但若月亮在土星起算的第十宫压制土星，此人的灾厄来得早：多病，不事生产，钱财少，与母亲为敌，毁坏她的产业，并受流液之苦。

If this is in a feminine sign and it has been decreed that he be given a wife, she will be his enemy, bearing children with difficulty and plotting harm against him, and he will hardly rejoice in his children, having neither friends nor children.

若此在阴性星座，命中注定他要娶妻，那妻子会与他为敌，难于生育，图谋害他；他几乎享不到子女之乐，既无朋友，也无子女。

[14] If Jupiter is in square with Mars and overcomes him, the native will be generous, steadfast, and compassionate, with glory, honour, and good connections; some of them are honoured for their valour in the houses of kings, distinguishing themselves in armies, and are known in the royal house or in public affairs, and some take charge of the king's business and rise ever higher in rank; but they do not preserve the property of their fathers or mothers, they are troubled over their children, and they have few children.

[14] 若木星与火星成四分并压制火星，此人慷慨、坚定、有恻隐之心，有荣耀、有尊荣、有好的交往；其中有人因勇武在王室受敬重，在军中出众，在王廷或公务中闻名，有人执掌君王的事务，地位节节上升；但他们守不住父辈或母辈的财产，为子女操心，子女也少。

[15] But if Mars overcomes Jupiter, it makes them sharp and impetuous and quick in seeking their livelihood, yet they stumble in life and toil in vain, being foolish, faulted, and weary; and from the business of the ruler they meet with slander and with litigation from people, being accused in public or royal affairs.

[15] 但若火星压制木星，使人锐利冲动，急于谋生，却在生活中屡屡失足，徒劳无功，昏聩、受指摘、疲惫；在官府事务上遭人诽谤与诉讼，在公务或王家事务中受控告。

[16] If Jupiter is in square with the Sun and the Sun is in the tenth sign from Jupiter, it signifies that his father is illustrious and noble, but his property diminishes in common misfortunes; he departs from his homeland, the people of his city are hostile to him, and his powerful enemies rise up and attack him.

[16] 若木星与太阳成四分，太阳在木星起算的第十宫，主此人的父亲显赫高贵，但财产在共同的变故中减损；父亲离开故乡，乡人与他为敌，强大的仇敌起而攻击他。

[17] But if Jupiter is in the tenth place from the Sun, this is good for the father and for the native: the native and his fathers become noble, with great good, advancement, and connection with kings and great men, great benefits together with honour, and he will rule over many people.

[17] 但若木星在太阳起算的第十宫，对父亲、对本人都好：此人与他的父辈都高贵，大有好处，步步高升，与君王、大人物结交，得大利益与尊荣，并统领许多人。

[18] If Jupiter is in square with Venus, on her right, overcoming her, it signifies that the native will love people and have many friends; he profits through women and female persons, plans his livelihood well, lives a refined life, draws near to God, and is strong in faith.

[18] 若木星与金星成四分，在她的右方压制她，主此人爱人，朋友多；他从女人与女性之人那里得利，善于安排生计，生活体面，亲近神明，信仰坚定。

If Venus overcomes Jupiter, they will be amorous and fond of adornment, delighting in these things; but such men will suffer many reverses and failures in their works.

若金星压制木星，此人多情，爱装扮，以此为乐；但这类人会遭许多逆境，事业多有挫败。

[19] If Jupiter is in square with Mercury, overcoming him, it signifies that the native will be a scribe, a grammarian or a geometer, learned and skilled in reckoning; some live from a public office, and he lives in good circumstances under the wing of one of his relatives, his undertakings being refined.

[19] 若木星与水星成四分并压制水星，主此人是书记，或为文法家、几何家，有学问，善算术；有人靠公职为生；他在某位亲属的荫庇下过着好日子，所做之事都很体面。

[20] But if Mercury is in the right-hand square of Jupiter, overcoming him, it signifies that the native will not be wealthy, though not without means, and he will be very generous; when good comes to him in some station he lets it go, for he flees good things as if they were evil and chooses evil things as if they were good, and often flees even a good that comes of itself.

[20] 但若水星在木星的右方四分压制木星，主此人不富，但也不缺，很慷慨；在某些境地遇到好事他却放手，因为他把好事当坏事来躲，把坏事当好事来选，连自动送上门的好处也常常躲开。

He is intemperate in his undertakings, not skilful in his work, and acts against himself; those whom he benefits are ungrateful to him and make him no return, so that he must provide good things for himself.

他做事没有节制，不善经营，与自己作对；受他恩惠的人对他不感恩，也不回报，他只好自己为自己谋好处。

[21] If the Moon is in square with Jupiter and Jupiter overcomes her, in a nocturnal or a diurnal nativity, it signifies that the native and his mother have a good livelihood, excellent in honour and companionship, beloved among their people; it is auspicious for the mother and makes the native better than his parents: he will have a name known among great men, much wealth, the highest praise, honours, and seats of precedence.

[21] 若月亮与木星成四分而木星压制她，不论夜生昼生，主此人与母亲生计都好，尊荣与交游都出色，在族人中受爱戴；这对母亲是吉兆，并使此人胜过父母：他在大人物中有名，财多，得到最好的称誉、尊荣与上座。

[22] But if the Moon is in the tenth place from Jupiter, overcoming him, it is a configuration that brings glory, and it signifies that he will be upright in great affairs, praised, honoured by commanders, and connected with governors; but there will be a time in which loss and idleness from work appear in him, when his activity is diminished.

[22] 但若月亮在木星起算的第十宫压制木星，这是致荣的配置，主此人在大事上正直，受称道，为统帅所敬重，与长官结交；但会有一段时期显出损失、无事可做，他的作为减少。

[23] If Mars is in the left-hand square of the Sun, so that the Sun overcomes him, it is hard for the child and for the father: he will be wicked in the affairs of his father and of himself, full of evil; harm befalls his property until all that he owned is lost and his possessions are scattered; he will be distracted, obsessed, and mad, his sight darkened and his vision failing, and at times he is blind; in a diurnal nativity the harm is more severe, and he may even die of it and perish.

[23] 若火星在太阳的左方四分，也就是太阳压制火星，对孩子与父亲都艰难：他在父亲与自身的事上都很恶劣，满是祸端；财产受损，直到所有尽失，家业离散；他会神思恍惚、心有魔障、发狂，眼目昏暗，视物错乱，有时失明；白天出生则害处更重，甚至可能因此而死亡。

[24] But if Mars is in the tenth place from the Sun, overcoming it, it signifies that he will profit at the beginning of his life, even if he meets many oppositions, but at the end of his life sickness increases, destruction comes upon him suddenly, and affliction is continual.

[24] 但若火星在太阳起算的第十宫压制太阳，主此人早年得利——即使会遇许多阻碍——晚年疾病加重，毁灭突然临头，苦难接连不断。

[25] If Mars is in the tenth place from Venus, overcoming her, it is severe in nativities, for it brings affliction, evil, and diseases on account of women, with wicked lawsuits, penalties, fights, and harms through women.

[25] 若火星在金星起算的第十宫压制她，这在本命盘里是凶的，因为它带来因女人而起的苦难、祸患与疾病，以及因女人而起的恶讼、罚金、争斗与伤害。

If it is so and the sign is tropical, he will be effeminate and do this vile deed; if marriage is decreed for him, he marries slave women or disgraced women, or he fornicates with harlots; and if he has years of life, he will knowingly tolerate his own wife's adultery, and the wife will tolerate her husband's licentiousness.

若如此而星座是回归星座，此人会女气，做那种下作的事；若命中注定他结婚，他会娶婢女或名声败坏的女人，或与娼妓淫乱；若他得享寿年，他会明知妻子与人通奸而容忍，妻子也容忍丈夫放荡。

If it is a female nativity, she will be an adulteress, one of the women who go in to men for evil.

若是女命，她会是个淫妇，是那种为了恶事去亲近男人的女人。

[26] But if Venus is in the tenth sign from Mars, overcoming him, the things we mentioned before befall him equally, but he conceals them out of shame, acting secretly, and repents in the end.

[26] 但若金星在火星起算的第十宫压制火星，上面说的那些事同样会落到他身上，只是他出于羞耻而隐瞒，暗中行事，终而后悔。

[27] If Mars overcomes Mercury, he does objectionable things among people and opens upon the native the causes of affliction from every side, bringing harms and constraints; he harms him in lawsuits, in his work, and in all that he undertakes, and slander comes upon him from his relatives and from those who know his secrets; this is more harmful in a diurnal nativity, especially if both, or at least Mars, are above the earth, and less harmful in a nocturnal nativity.

[27] 若火星压制水星，此人会在人前做出可憎之事，火星从四面八方给他打开苦难之门，带来伤害与拘禁；在诉讼、工作与一切所为上都伤害他，诽谤来自他的亲属与知道他隐秘的人；白天出生更有害，尤其两者——或至少火星——在地平线上时；夜里出生害处较轻。

[28] If Mercury overcomes Mars, the stirrer of war, with Mars in the left-hand square of Mercury, it signifies that the native will be base, villainous, and treacherous, a plunderer of other people's property, who cannot see any of their goods without taking it [text uncertain]; he is vexed with his relatives and his soul longs to go far away, or he is rancorous and greedy for wealth, all his effort being in the seeking of money.

[28] 若水星压制那好挑战争的火星，火星在水星的左方四分，主此人卑劣、奸恶、不可靠，掠夺别人的财物，见到人家的东西没有不拿的〔原文疑有讹误〕；他厌烦亲属，一心想远走，或者心怀怨恨，贪图钱财，所有的力气都花在求财上。

If Mercury, being in square, holds the higher place, and Mars, most baneful, keeps the lower place,

若水星处在四分而占据上位，最恶的火星守着下位，

it renders men terribly villainous, intent on plunder and on stripping others of their goods, passing from one to another, from man to man; for they attach themselves to people in order to bring some evil upon them, then betray them by evil contrivance and strip them of their possessions.

就使人奸恶得可怕，存心劫掠、剥夺别人的财物，从一处转到另一处，从一个人转到另一个人；他们依附于人，为的是给人带来祸害，然后以奸计出卖他们，剥光他们的财产。

[29] If Mars regards the Moon from the right-hand square, overcoming her, it signifies that his mother will be a widow, and his livelihood, his property, and the livelihood of his father will be diminished; his mother, or some of his brothers, will perish by an evil death, through blood or violence, with severe grief.

[29] 若火星从右方四分照见月亮并压制她，主此人的母亲会守寡，他自己的生计、财产以及父亲的生计都会减损；他的母亲或某些兄弟会死于非命——流血或横死——令人极为悲痛。

Some of them are afflicted with madness and flee to the house of worship, being troubled by phantoms and images, or they are afflicted with loss of sight and with bewilderment, especially if Mars is in the terms of Saturn and the Moon in the terms of Mercury or of Mars; for the power of the terms often changes nativities, intensifying or lessening the evils.

其中有人发狂，逃到礼拜之所，为幻影与偶像所扰，或者视力受损、神志迷乱——尤其火星在土星的界、月亮在水星或火星的界时；因为界的力量常常改变本命，或加重、或减轻其中的祸患。

[30] But if Mars is in the left-hand square of the Moon and the Moon overcomes him, it signifies that his mother is of small account, obscure, and poor in livelihood, and for the native it signifies the ruin of his wealth and affliction, the overthrow of his fortune, and wanderings.

[30] 但若火星在月亮的左方四分，由月亮压制他，主此人的母亲地位卑微、默默无闻、生计贫乏；对本人则主财产败坏、遭受苦难、时运倾覆、四处漂泊。

[31] If the Sun is in square with the Moon, each being upon the tenth from the other, and they are in angles and the benefics regard them, it signifies for the native much wealth, honour, and joy, and makes him effective and glorious in his connections; but if the malefics regard them, there will be terror in their livelihood and in their life.

[31] 若太阳与月亮成四分，彼此居于对方的第十宫，又都在角上，有吉星照见，主此人钱财多、有尊荣、多喜乐，使他办事有成，在交游中显赫；但若凶星照见，他们的生计与性命都会有可怖之事。

[32] If, with the Sun and the Moon both in the angles and regarded by Saturn and Mars, the Moon applies to Jupiter and he regards her, while the malefics regard her as I have described, it signifies that the native will be noble and attain his ends through toil, but those of them who wish evil will envy him; and if Jupiter does not regard her and the destructive malefics regard her, it is more likely that evil and affliction will befall them, and the configuration will have the greatest harm.

[32] 若太阳与月亮都在角上，被土星、火星照见，而月亮入相位于木星、木星也照见她，同时凶星照见她如上所述，主此人高贵，经过辛劳而成事，但那些存心作恶的人会嫉妒他；若木星不照见她，而有毁伤之力的凶星照见她，祸患与苦难就更可能落到他们身上，这个配置的害处最大。

[33] If Mercury is in square with Venus, each overcoming the other, it signifies that the native will be learned in a wonderful and beautiful craft, or lovable, or a distinguished teacher, and he is known among people for practising it; but people talk much about him, his speech is blameworthy, and he is lustful in matters of sex.

[33] 若水星与金星成四分，彼此压制，主此人精通一门奇妙美好的技艺，或惹人喜爱，或是著名的教师，因从事此道而为人所知；但人们对他议论纷纷，他的言谈招人指摘，在性事上好色。

[34] If the Moon is in square with Venus and the Moon overcomes Venus, it signifies that he will be rich, but in the nativities of men it signifies blame on account of women, and they are harmed through female matters or by female persons.

[34] 若月亮与金星成四分而月亮压制金星，主此人富有，但在男命里主因女人受指责，因女性之事或女性之人受害。

[35] But if the Moon is in the left-hand square of Venus and Venus is on her right, overcoming her, it increases his good, one good following another: he will be active and rich in livelihood, of good condition, livelihood, and complexion, graceful, orderly, and clean, and sweet in speech; but he has no constancy in his union with women.

[35] 但若月亮在金星的左方四分，金星在她的右方压制她，会增加他的好处，好事接连而来：此人办事有成，生计丰足，境况、生计与气色都好，优雅、端正、整洁，言语甜美；只是他与女人的结合没有定性。

It gives him a beautiful wife, affectionate and chaste; but it makes both him and his mother unstable in marriage, for they will not keep to one spouse.

它给他一位美丽的妻子，温厚而贞洁；但使他与他的母亲在婚姻上都不安定，他们不会只守一个配偶。

[36] If Mercury is in square with the Moon, in the tenth place from her, overcoming her, it signifies that the native will be of good judgement, eloquent, and intelligent, but he is troubled on account of the affairs of his city, through the crowd and the multitude; and if the malefics overcome Mercury in his square, he will be a forger, seized over contracts and writings and cast into prison and bonds.

[36] 若水星与月亮成四分，在她起算的第十宫压制她，主此人有见识、善言辞、聪明，但因城中之事、因群众与人多而忧烦；若凶星在四分中压制水星，他会是伪造文书的人，因契约与文书被捕，投入监牢、戴上枷锁。

[37] But if the Moon is in the tenth from Mercury, overcoming him, it signifies that the native will be light, cold, and frivolous, jealous, unstable and changeable, with no contentment in anything and no faith in his heart or his word, heeded by no one.

[37] 但若月亮在水星起算的第十宫压制水星，主此人轻浮、冷淡、放浪，好嫉妒，不安定、反复无常，对什么都不满足，心里与话里都没有信义，没有人听他的。
