Another. The Sun and Mercury in Capricorn, the Moon and Saturn in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Virgo, Venus in Aquarius, the Ascendant in Libra; the 2nd clime. In the 48th year he had the heaviest mourning, having witnessed the death of an affectionate child, and in the same year also that of his mother. Both Virgo and Libra signified it, because of equal rising: of Libra 8 years, of Virgo 40: they make 48; hence Mars, as if by co-presence with the Ascendant, grieved the soul. Besides, Virgo 40 and Sagittarius 32 make 72, the two-thirds of which make 48.

These periods too I noted from observation, and since the native was still an infant, I reckoned months instead of years; for when the 8th month was being completed, and up to part of the 9th, he fell into convulsions, so that he came near to danger. The 8 was signified by Libra, with Saturn lying upon it, and the ninth and a half [text uncertain]; for the rising time of Aries is 17, up to the completion of 8 months and 15 days. But the rising time of Capricorn was also productive, as follows: the third of the 27 makes 9; and the Sun 19 and Venus 8 make 27, the third of which makes 9. In the other months held fast by the malefics he was also afflicted and fell into eruptions and rashes, for example in the 15th, the 17th, the 23rd, and the rest, and especially about the 27th month; for, on account of a four-footed animal, falling in play [text uncertain], he was struck about the natural parts. The 27th was signified by Mars and the Moon: Mars 15 and the Moon 25 make 40, the two-thirds of which make 26, and 20 days; I consider this to be by the opposition of Aries and Virgo, or else because she was moving toward him. Besides, Mars 15 and the Ascendant Cancer 25 make 40, the two-thirds of which is 26, and 20 days; and at that time too the rising time of Capricorn was productive for the 27, and Mars 15 and Jupiter 12 make 27, and again the Sun 19 and Venus 8 make 27 [corrected: Kroll prints 12]. From the 28th month, then, he lived in reversals; for the rising time of Libra and the period of Saturn also ran together; and in the 32nd month he fell dangerously ill and suffered convulsions. For Mars 15 and the rising time of Aries 17 make 32. In the 33rd month he died; for the rising time of Cancer was being completed; but also Cancer 25 and Libra 8 make 33, or the Moon 25 and Libra 8 make 33; I reckoned her, then, as being together with Libra and with Saturn's sign, because of equal rising.

This man, being rich, fell from his position about the 47th year; for Saturn, in the Midheaven of the 9th [text uncertain], was productive, and the rising time of Pisces: Saturn 30, Pisces 17: they make 47. But also the opposition of the Sun, Mars, and Mercury: Mars 15, the rising time of Aries 17, the Sun 19, and Mercury 20 make together 71, the two-thirds of which makes 47 years 4 months; and also the side of the square of Libra and Capricorn: Capricorn 27, Mercury 20: they make 47. In appearance, then, he seemed to be sheltered, but he endured adversities and loss on account of a woman.

It was therefore necessary to test the places set out below. Saturn in the Midheaven by night signifies a fall from position; Mars by day, succedent to the Midheaven, brings about the same; but if the lord of the Midheaven regards the Midheaven or is productive, after the fall there is recovery and restoration, from the periods of the rising time of the sign or from the cyclical return of the planet. The Sun, productive by night below the earth without rulership, and the Moon above the earth, make nativities that have been in danger; conjunctions and half-moons of the Moon squared or opposed by Saturn, or having him present with them, signify a fall from position; likewise the full moons and the first half-moons, opposed or squared by Mars or having him present with them, signify great ruin and calamities, and falls that are celebrated and notorious; and when they are present in solid signs or degrees, they subdue once and inexorably, in bicorporeal signs more often, and in tropical signs they attach these to the natives with much notoriety; when they happen to be angular, they turn the natives from the greatest good fortune to the greatest misfortunes, in the succedent places they make them suffer and expect one thing after another, and in the cadent places they overturn them with stumblings and arrests, or servitude, outrages, tortures, and evil deaths. It is harsh for those who have the Moon in cadent places by night, and the Sun by day. And if the malefics also square the Sun and the Moon, they fall into general wars and circumstances and are killed. Or, in general [text uncertain], Saturn in opposition to Mars is not good either for a slave or for a free man; for he will bring much misfortune; and when they square each other or are together, they make the natives toilsome and troubled. It is better for such configurations of theirs to happen in a cadent place; for on the angles they bring death to fortune and dangers to action and to the whole substance; in the succedent places they make what is hoped for turn out for the worse, oppress undertakings, and make fortunes toilsome and laborious; and in the cadent places, concerning matters of livelihood, things are exchanged in varied ways and with ready pretexts for those who are making their living [text uncertain]. If the benefics testify to the aforesaid configurations, the bad will be less or easily consoled; and they bring about the like also in the division of the periods, when they become lords of the configurations. And since most of the planets, or even all, seem very often to dominate the periods, the judgement of the bad and the good will be grasped from the entries at the moment, especially whenever a planet that is chronocrator enters upon the productive places, having a relation to the affairs of the nativity; for it signifies the indicated effect as secure.

In order to marvel at nature, and that nothing comes about apart from Fate, but that those who are caught in war, in a collapse, a conflagration, a shipwreck, or by some other cause are brought together with one accord by Fate, we shall show it from a small example. The Sun and Mercury in Leo, the Moon in Libra, Saturn in Aries, Jupiter in Taurus, Mars and Venus in Virgo, the Ascendant in Capricorn; the 2nd clime. In the 40th year he had a climacteric: of the Moon 25, of Aries 15: they make 40; or also of Saturn himself, who opposes, Aries 20 and Libra 40: they make 60, the two-thirds of which makes 40; the climacteric, then, was double. In the same period I also found Capricorn, the Ascendant, 28, and Jupiter in trine 12: they make 40; and again Capricorn 30, Taurus 22, and the period 8: they make 60, the two-thirds of which is 40.

In the 35th year he had a climacteric; for the period of Mars, 15 years, and Virgo 20 were productive: it makes 35; and also Venus 8 and the rising time of Capricorn 27 make 35. And again the opposition: Saturn 30, Cancer 32 30', and Venus 8 make 70 years 6 months, half of which makes 35 years 3 months. But Jupiter and Saturn also shared in the period at that time: Libra 42 years 6 months, Cancer 27 years 6 months make 70, half of which makes 35.

In the 36th and a half year he had a climacteric. Gemini 27 years 6 months and Venus 8 make 35 years 6 months; the Sun 19: they make 54 years 6 months, the two-thirds of which makes 36 years 4 months. Here too, then, the benefics shared in it.

The Moon 25 and Libra 8 make 33; and Saturn 30 and the Sun 19 make 49, the two-thirds of which is 32 years 8 months; but also the rising time of Sagittarius, with Jupiter lying upon it, was productive, that is the 33.

Leo 19 and the Moon 25 make 44, half of which makes 22; but also Scorpio 36 and Taurus 8 make 44, half of which makes 22.

These 6 men were sailing, with many others, and having fallen in with a violent wind, when the rudder was torn away, they were in danger of going under, the vessel having taken in the wave. But when the helmsman made use of the force of the blowing wind and of the sail, they escaped; and in the same period they fell into other dangers at sea and through the roving of pirates.

Hence if often in certain periods most or all of the planets are found to be productive, one must compare each, how it is configured and of which it is more favourably placed or more powerful, whether the one that brings about the bad or the one that brings about the good, and award to it the prize of the effect, and then to the others, which have weaker power to bring about effects, through hope, delay, fear, and loss; for often, having shown the effect before the eyes, they have become weak because another, being in a powerful place, has prevailed. And if they hold the same power of configuration or of signs, both will come about, the bad and the good. Often, then, sides of configurations found to be hard to dissolve and strong with respect to the periods hold sway for a long time, and even if they already seem to be leaving the periods, they again prevail and rule; so that, even if another testimony becomes productive, it will not be strong, being overcome by the first, especially when a malefic happens to be bringing something about by opposition or by overcoming.

Let there be, for the sake of example: the Sun, Saturn, and Mercury in Aries, the Moon and Jupiter in Leo, Mars in Taurus, Venus in Aquarius, the Ascendant in Virgo; the 1st clime. In the 18th year he went abroad with a distinguished woman on account of friendship and rank, and he had intimacy with another woman and an erotic desire; for the rising time of Aquarius, where Venus was, signified the 25 years; and if she alone had been productive, the matter of the benefaction would have been accomplished quickly; but as it was, Mars too dominated the 25 through the rising time of Taurus, and also the period of the Moon brought the 25, the two-thirds of which makes 16 years 8 months; if, then, another testimony of the benefics had been added after the periods written above, what was hoped for would have been accomplished; but as it was, the same planets prevailed again; for in the 18th year the female person died, and he, having failed of his hope, returned having gained little. For Jupiter allotted 12 and Mars, overcoming him, 15: it makes 27, the two-thirds of which is 18 years; and also Leo 19 and Taurus 8 make 27, the two-thirds of which is 18. In the 19th year he obtained benefit and acquisition, but he had dissensions, agitations of soul, and enmities toward his own people; for Leo, with Jupiter and the Moon present in it, signified the 19; and also the Sun himself, being with Saturn in Aries, signified the 19; and again Aquarius 30 and Taurus 8, half of which makes 19. In the 20th year, on account of the woman's friendship, he went abroad and expected greater hopes and benefits, but then too he failed, since she died; for Mars 15 and the Moon 25 indicated it: they make 40, half of which is 20; and also the rising time of Taurus 25 and of Leo 35 make 60, a third of which makes 20; and Mercury, in Aries with Saturn, signified the 20. Likewise in the 21st year the same planets held sway: Leo 19, Taurus 8, Mars 15 make 42, half of which makes 21; and the rising time of Aries 21 years 8 months and Mercury 20 make 41 years 8 months, half of which is 20 years 10 months. And in the 22nd year likewise the same held sway: Leo 19 and Taurus 25 make 44, half of which makes 22. The 23rd year belonged to Venus and Mars: Venus 8, Mars 15 make 23.

So often the planets, which by the broad and general theory seem to be well configured, signify adversities, being undone in turn by the power of the periods. For example, Leo 19 and Jupiter, lying upon it, 12 signified the 21st year, the two-thirds of which makes 20 years 8 months; and the trine of Jupiter and the Sun indicated the same; he had, then, friendship with a greater and royal person, from whom he expected the wearing of a crown and a high priesthood. This would undoubtedly have come about if Mars, overcoming, had not been productive; and with Saturn present together with those who were granting the gift, examinations, delays, expenses, and envies followed, and Saturn, being in trine to Jupiter, did not appear as much a hindrance to rank as Mars, overcoming contrary to sect. There came about, then, a climacteric illness, a haemorrhage, a hindrance to rank, a betrayal by slaves, attacks, losses, and wants. Then afterwards this man prospered, and, a postponement having been made to a future period, he was released, into the productive time of the benefics and the malefics in the same period: there will be actions, but very many expenses, or else self-sufficiency from a previous action or from some other income and the assistance of friends. The effects come about after the rising times of the signs or the periods of the planets have been completed, as the King himself also says in the case of a nativity: "Such a one, having passed through the seasonal periods of Venus, being childless, will be deprived of necessities, and, having made everything useless, will live in the manner of a beggar." The periods, then, begin to be effective when they run together to completion, preparing beforehand, in the case of good effects, friendships, introductions, benefits, sympathies, and glories, and in the case of bad ones, injurious causes.

所以常常，按粗略而总的理论看来格局良好的诸星，却象征逆境，被时期的力量轮流解除。例如，狮子十九与位于其上的木星十二象征第二十一年，其三分之二得二十年八个月；木星与太阳的三分也显示同样的；所以他与一位较大的、王室的人物有友谊，从他那里期望戴上冠冕、得到高级祭司之职。若不是压制的火星得力，这无疑会发生；而有土星与那些施予恩赐的星同在，就随之有审查、拖延、开销与嫉妒；而土星与木星成三分，对品级的阻碍并不如与本方相悖而压制的火星那么显著。于是发生了关口之病、出血、品级的阻碍、奴仆的背叛、攻击、损失与匮乏。然后此后此人兴旺了，事情被推迟到将来的一个时期，他就被释放了，进入吉星与凶星在同一时期里得力的时间：会有作为，但有极多的开销，否则是来自先前某项作为或别的某种收入的自足，以及朋友的援助。效验在星座的上升时间或行星的周期走完之后发生，正如王自己在一个本命的例子中也说：「这样的人，走完了金星的季节性时期之后，没有子女，会被剥夺必需之物，使一切变得无用之后，会像乞丐一样生活。」所以，时期在一同走到完满时开始起作用，对好的效验预先备好友谊、引荐、益处、同情与荣耀，对坏的效验预先备好有害的原因。

Let there be, by way of example: the Sun, Jupiter, and Mercury in Libra, the Moon in Taurus, Saturn in Cancer, Mars in Sagittarius, Venus and the Ascendant in Scorpio; the 2nd clime. Such a one, having passed through the 40th year, was condemned to exile. The 40 years were indicated by the overcoming of Saturn over Libra: Cancer 32 degrees and Libra 8: they make 40; and by the opposition of the Moon toward Venus: Taurus 25, Scorpio 15: they make 40; hence the effect operated also through female matters and on the pretext of benefit; and again by the application of the Moon to Mars: the Moon 25 and Mars 15 make 40, as the King too says: "Let the Moon be in whatever sign, or angular, and let Mars be succedent or following, being present in the next sign, to which she will also make the application." So that even if a planet is not present with the Moon in the same sign, but is found in the intervening sign, or in the square or opposition of it, one must prefer the application as secure, and, adding together their periods or the rising times of the signs, declare the period.

举例来说，设：太阳、木星与水星在天秤，月亮在金牛，土星在巨蟹，火星在射手，金星与上升点在天蝎；第二气候带。这样的人，走过第四十年之后，被判流放。四十年由土星对天秤的压制显示：巨蟹三十二度与天秤八：合得四十；也由月亮对金星的对冲：金牛二十五，天蝎十五：合得四十；所以这效验也借女性之事、以利益为借口而起作用；又由月亮对火星的入相：月亮二十五与火星十五合得四十，正如王也说：「设月亮在任何星座，或居角，而火星续于其后或随后，在下一个星座里，她也将对他作入相。」所以，即使一颗行星不与月亮同在同一星座，而是被找到在中间的星座里，或在它的四分或对冲中，也必须把入相看作稳固而优先采用，把它们的时期或星座的上升时间加在一起之后，宣告这个时期。
