VI. On the Subdivision of the Aforesaid Method.

The third further division comes about as follows. Saturn is master of 2 years and 6 months: he will transmit to himself 6 months 29 days 6 1/6 hours, to Jupiter 2 months 23 days 17¼ hours [corrected: Kroll prints 26 days 8¼ hours], to Mars 3 months 14 days 15 1/6 hours, to the Sun 4 months 12 days 13 1/6 hours, to Venus 1 month 25 days 19½ hours, to Mercury 4 months 19 days 12½ hours, to the Moon 5 months 24 days 10 hours; and so the 2 years 6 months of Saturn are completed.

Jupiter has a year: he will transmit to himself 1 month 3 days 11 hours, to Mars 1 month 11 days 20 hours [corrected: Kroll prints 1 day], to the Sun 1 month 23 days 20½ hours, to Venus 22 days 7½ 1/3 hours [corrected: Kroll prints 12 days], to Mercury 1 month 25 days 12 1/6 hours, to the Moon 2 months 9 days 18 1/3 hours [corrected: Kroll prints 12 months], to Saturn 2 months 23 days 17¼ hours.

VII. To Learn to Which Planet the Current Days of the Aforesaid Method Belong.

If we wish to know in another way to which planet the current days belong, let us proceed as follows. Having multiplied the current years by 365¼, and having added the days from the birthday up to the day sought and summed them up, we subtract as many cycles of 129 days each as we can and examine how many cycles there have been; from these again we shall cast out weekly cycles, and the cycle left over within the week will show to which planet the days belong. For example, in the aforesaid chart, multiplying the full 52 years by 365¼, they make 18,993 days; and from Mechir 12 up to the day sought, Payni 15, 123 days; together they make 19,116 days. From these I subtracted cycles of 129 each: they make 148 cycles, and there remain 24 days of the 149th cycle. Again from these I subtracted 21 weekly cycles, that is from the 149; there remain 2 cycles. Since, then, as set out above, the Moon was found to be releaser, I again gave the 1st cycle of the week to the Moon herself first. The second cycle was held by Venus, who comes after her, having 24 days, of which she gave to herself 8 days, then to Jupiter 12 days; there remain 4 days of Saturn, in which he was condemned.

Or again one must try, having brought the weekly cycles down into periods of 49, to count off from the releaser one for each, and at whichever planet the count ends, that planet will rule the period of 49 and the first weekly cycle; then you will transmit the cycles to the rest in order. For example, in the aforesaid chart, since 149 weekly cycles were found, from these I subtracted 3 periods of 49; there remain two cycles of the fourth period of 49. The four, then, I counted off from the Moon and ended at Saturn; so that Saturn rules the fourth period of 49; and having allotted the first weekly cycle to himself, he transmitted the second to Mars, who comes after him, having 24 days, of which he allotted to himself 15 days; and the remaining 9 days are the Sun's.

Most people, however, allot the periods in every nativity according to the seven-zone week, beginning from Saturn; then to Jupiter, then to Mars, then to the Sun, after whom to Venus, then to Mercury, and next to the Moon. And likewise, according to the cycling of the periods, they examine the master of the week and of the days. But this does not please me, since the same chronocrators will be found in most nativities; rather, as set out above, the releaser will be judged from the Sun and the Moon, or the planet found after the Ascendant and those next in order, according as they happened to be disposed at the nativity by sign and by degree.

Since I had acquired an easy finding of what is sought, through continual exercise and the material of a varied method, while the judgement and clear testing needed time, and this was left to me only briefly (for the life of men is but a point, even if it seems very lofty), just as a father at the end of his life, weighed down by illness, leaves brief commands to his children before silence overtakes him, so I too, with all eagerness, examining the headings of the theorems that occurred to me, noted them down, giving lovers of the beautiful a starting point for entry. If the mind were long-lived or immortal, the judgement would be undisputed and of one kind; but the gods know all things. Since, then, the most comprehensive heading is the one concerning the periods of life, it has been composed in many ways in what precedes. But having met a certain man who boasted about another method, I found the procedure embroidered with methodical numbers through much deception; I myself knew it more clearly before, and now, because of the contention, I shall make it clear, cutting out the idle talk. For every method, when compared with another and put to the test, shows its theory too to be natural and precise.

Let our reckoning, then, be with respect to the light-bearing Moon and to the Ascendant; for these, blending with each other according to their hourly motions toward the important positions and the natural formation, indicate the releasing, the beginning, and the end. For they have been mystically allotted the power over conception and delivery, and neither Mars nor Saturn will be judged destroyers, nor indeed the benefics helpers; but whenever the Moon is found to be releaser, one must watch for the adhesions and the sides of sextile, square, and opposition toward the Ascendant, especially in signs of equal rising or of equal ascension or of equal power, the hearing and seeing signs, or in degrees that cast antiscia. In the same way, if the Ascendant is releaser, one must likewise examine the intervals toward the Moon according to rising times.

From experience it has seemed best to me to judge as deadly degrees and powerful testimonies those of the Ascendant and of the Moon toward one another, and those square and opposed to them. For these have no ordinary power in the arrangement of the angles. And since much deception occurs each time concerning the releasing or destroying places, and since some, roughly speaking, offer [text uncertain] the matters of the theory, the absence of a testing of the truth produces blame and aversion, so I was compelled, having found it out, to make the deception clear in addition. For whenever the releasings by themselves [lacuna] is found to be out of accord with the apparent destruction, one must examine both numbers and consider this to be the period of life according to rising times, provided it does not greatly exceed the greatest period; for some rarely live. Or also otherwise: whenever a great interval of the releasing is found when the Moon and the Ascendant are in the same sign, or when by some other releasing it does not happen that the interval is found in the signs of long rising, so that the releasing places draw near to one another, one should count up the periods according to rising times and, taking half of them, consider that the period of life. One must examine the releasing not only for the greatest interval or for long-lived persons, but also for the least and compounded releasings, for the short-lived. For the releasing judgement of the periods, the phases of the Moon by degree, reckoned in each sign with respect to the releasings and fitted to the chronology of the interval, reveal the destruction in advance, especially those from the Moon; for she, having become releaser, will be destroyed by herself; and these are the phases of the conjunction or full moon and of the two half-moons, the one which is first carried toward the western place being effective.

Hence let no one think that we have composed in many ways and diversely; for I am content to have indicated every position of the question, and it is possible for those who engage with it, having trained themselves in the methods over time and having set aside the many, to arrive at the natural and unerring road. For I said before, in what precedes, that some things composed obscurely by the ancients I have solved, others I thought to be well as they seemed to some, so that I might not seem to have been uninitiated in the study, and others I myself discovered individually and composed, by which those who are persuaded will acquire an entry they will not regret. One must observe the releasing and destroying places, in the signs or terms of which planets they happen to be; for from these the causes and the deaths are grasped according to their natural activities. One must examine, then, which planet is afflicted or helped by which, or is in sympathy or alien, and how their configurations toward one another are, natally, by entry, and in the receptions of the periods. Concerning the hours by sign and by degree and the productive degrees, a long account has been shown by us before, of those which have harmony with the period of life, in many and varied ways, and even if they do not have the same or a nearby ending in the same degrees or the same signs, which is thought by many to be rare and hard to believe; but with the circuit of the cosmos all things are possible, attainable, venerable, and true, and it extends through countless and varied methods as far as one, seeking, finds, not through deceptions but through natural workmanship. For the cosmos itself is free from error, and the good and venerable things it possesses it shows ungrudgingly, plain to all by day and by night; and when seen they are not grasped, but when conceived by the intelligence they are known, as each person apprehends them. From this, what is done, what comes about, and what is said, being graspable, I too have taken my share, leaving aside who they might be, and whence, and how; for others have made endless discourses about such matters. But come, having compared what was found and tested from the observation of periods, and having become an initiate, I have composed them, thinking that I have set a beginning of satiety [text uncertain] in my writings; I form them anew and do not leave off toiling with pleasure; for the workmanship of the cosmic things and the discovery of what is sought lead me on, entwining me with newer theorems.
