XI. On Releasing.

第十一章　论释放。

The releasings of the years from all the planets, then, will be productive, but that releasing will be judged more effective which is by day from the Sun and by night from the Moon, especially if they happen to be angular; then the one from the Ascendant. And if the year given from the Ascendant, or the one from the Moon, or the one from the Sun comes to one of the natal planets, one should use the effects; and if one of the planets in transit also enters upon that place, it will have transmitted the period. But if the sign in which the number ended happens to be empty, one should give out the same number from the natal lord of the sign as well and examine likewise at which of the natal or transiting planets it ends, and foretell the outcomes of all, both of the places and of the planets; and if the number ends from a planet at a planet, one should use the effects of the planets; but if in empty places, those of the lords of the places.

For example, if the releasing made from the Moon comes either into Aries or into Scorpio, and no planet is present there, while the same number of years given from natal Mars himself comes to Saturn, the year will be dangerous and troubling, and will bring whatever the transmission and the places signify. The like holds when the year is given from the Sun and from the Ascendant and from the lots, each bringing about its own effect according to the transmission or reception. If two are effective in the year, [lacuna] especially the one from the angles, then the one from the succedent places, and next the one from the cadent places. And the benefics, transmitting or receiving from the angles and exaltations or productive places, become the causes of great goods and of rank; from the succedent places they are middling, and from the cadent places weaker; in opposition, lesser and troubling. Likewise the malefics too are worst when angular; in the succedent places they are middling and bring on the causes later; in the cadent places they will be lesser in their evil; and in opposition they signify adversities and dangers. When the malefics, overcoming, receive the periods from those they overcome, they bring about worse evils, even if they oppose the benefics and receive from them; but in trine they make the effects more harmonious and milder. Those that receive will be judged more effective than those that transmit. It is better, then, for a benefic to transmit to a benefic than a malefic to a benefic, and worst of all for a malefic to transmit to a malefic. If the releasing comes into a sign that is empty at the moment, and afterwards a planet enters upon the place, that planet will have received the period. A planet, whether benefic or malefic, will be judged stronger for the effect if it makes a phase in the same sign; but if it is passing through, it is weak. If the releasing falls into an empty place, the one in the 1st year prevails, until another runs together with it. The settings and retrogradations of the planets will be weak, while their risings and stations will be strong, the effects being compared in many ways. In relation to the substance of the nativity, then, [lacuna] for the rich, those of middling livelihood, those busy with affairs, the poor, and workmen. The effects will be judged more secure, both for matters of action and for the reckonings of climacterics, whenever the same planets hold the same configuration as they had at the nativity; for the most divine Critodemus too makes mention of this. We shall show the configuration next by means of an instrument and of a method.

The table set out above is one of joint return with respect to the intervals and interweavings of the planets. For example, for the sake of illustration: the Sun, Mars, Mercury, and the Ascendant in Sagittarius, the Moon in Leo, Saturn in Virgo, Jupiter in Scorpio, Venus in Capricorn. The Moon has been allotted the 2, since she stands 2 from Saturn; likewise also the Sun, Mars, Mercury, and the Ascendant toward Venus. The 3 Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus; the 4 and the 5 Saturn; and the Moon the 6; the 7 is common to all; the 8 Venus; the 9 and the 10 the Sun, Mars, Mercury, and the Ascendant; Jupiter too the 10 and the 11; and Venus the 12. The chart is running its 31st year; the productive planets and those that bring the climacteric are found as follows. The start, in the case of the aforesaid climacterics, is at the third line, that of the 3; for the two preceding, the 1 and the 2, are unproductive, because the 1 is productive up to 12, the 2 up to 24, the 3 up to 36, and so on in order likewise. It is observed as follows: since the 31st year falls into the 11th of the 3, and at the nativity Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus were allotted the 3, it seeks the planets transiting at the moment, whether they transmit the 11th to another or to one another. For example, in the aforesaid nativity, at the moment, the planets were: the Sun, Jupiter, and Mercury in Gemini, Saturn in Virgo, Mars and Venus in Taurus, the Moon in Pisces; and the planets that had been allotted the 11th were Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus. We find the Moon returning to Venus, but Jupiter to none; at once I pass over to the fourth: I find the 32 in the 8; none of those that were lord of the 4 is bringing a climacteric. I pass over to the 5: the Moon and Saturn are productive for the 5, and these are found returning to one another. I come to the 6: none stands apart by 6. I pass over to the line of the 7: the period of the 5 is found to be running; and the 7 was found, as has been said, to be common to all planets: Mars and Venus to Saturn. I come to the line of the 8: Venus does not return to any by 4. Next to the climacteric of the 9: the Sun, Mars, Mercury, the Ascendant, and Venus will be lord of the 9; and in this line is the 36; in the four-year cycle the Sun, Jupiter, and Mercury were found returning to Saturn. Again I pass over to the 10: the Sun, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, and the Ascendant will be lord of the 10; and in this line is the 4. Hence too they are found transmitting to the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn.

These periods of the intervals, then, become unfailingly effective and productive whenever the planets that were lord of them at the nativity have, in their transits at the moment, the interval they had at the nativity.

所以，每当本命时作这些间隔之主的诸星，在此刻的行运中重现它们在本命时的间隔，这些间隔的时期就毫无差错地有效而得力。
