XXIII. On the Lot of Debt.

第二十三章　论借贷之点。

If the Lot of Debt falls [lacuna] or its lord falls in the squares or oppositions of it while malefics regard it, or are opposed, or overcome it, it makes nativities burdened with debt. The Lot of Debt is counted from Mercury to Saturn and the equal amount from the Ascendant. From the lots that fall there, then, or from the planets that stand upon acquisition, or that oppose or square the lot itself, the manner of the native's substance becomes evident; likewise also from the planets that stand upon Fortune or the Daemon, or from the lots that fall together with them, and from their lords. Above all, one must look at the Lot of Ambush and the Lot of Theft, whether they have some relation to acquisition, or Fortune, or the Daemon, or livelihood, or to the lords of these lots; it is possible for them to have none [lacuna] they do not make their gains from a sound source. For if the places set out above have no relation to acquisition, or Fortune, or livelihood, or the Daemon, it destroys the native's livelihood or substance. But if they have some relation to them, you will find that the native's substance comes from knavery, ambush, some plot, violence, theft, and assault.

XXIV. The Lot of Theft.

第二十四章　窃盗之点。

The Lot of Theft is counted, for a diurnal nativity, from Mercury to Mars and the equal amount from Saturn; for a nocturnal nativity, from Mars to Mercury and the equal amount from Saturn.

窃盗之点这样数：昼生的本命，从水星数到火星，再从土星数出相等的数量；夜生的本命，从火星数到水星，再从土星数出相等的数量。

XXV. The Lot of Ambush.

第二十五章　埋伏之点。

The Lot of Ambush is taken by day from the Sun to Mars and the equal amount from the Ascendant, and by night the reverse. If the lord of the Lot of Fortune, or of acquisition, or of the Daemon happens to be in the Lot of Ambush or of Theft, they will have their livelihood from violence and knavery or from some gain. If the lords of all the places set out above fall together, they bring about the same. If the lord of Ambush or of Theft is upon the Lot of Fortune, or of the Daemon, or of acquisition, the native's livelihood is found to come from these things. But if benefics testify to the places, especially when they are in their own places or belong to the sect, natives become well-intentioned; if malefics testify in opposition or in square, the manner must be considered.

埋伏之点白天从太阳取到火星，再从上升点数出相等的数量，夜里则反过来。若福点之主、获取之主或精灵点之主恰好在埋伏之点或窃盗之点，他们的生计就来自暴力与狡诈，或来自某种得益。若上面所列各位置之主都落在一起，也造成同样的事。若埋伏之主或窃盗之主在福点、精灵点或获取之位上，就会发现本命者的生计来自这些事。但若吉星为这些位置作见证，尤其当它们在自己的位置或属于本命那一方时，本命者就心存善意；若凶星以对冲或四分作见证，就必须考虑其方式。

We shall now show which nativities are brought down or fall from their position after good fortune. If the place of rank and exaltation has opposed to it malefics that do not belong to the nativity, or its lord does not receive testimony from Jupiter, especially when the luminaries are cadent or the Moon is afflicted, the native's glory and distinction will come to ruin. The lord of the Lot of Fortune, opposing the exaltation or the lord of the exaltation, makes glory and distinction precarious. Likewise the lord of the Daemon and the lots, when unfavourable to one another, prove to be destructive of glory. If the place of the Lot of Exaltation and the Lot of Honour fall opposed to each other and are seen by malefics, or their lords or the lots are, natives harm themselves and will fall into dishonour, ruin, or some outrages. If the lord of the Lot of Fortune, or of the Daemon, or of the exaltation falls opposed to the Lot of Honour, or to its lot, or to its lord, or is overcome by malefics or receives their testimony, natives come into ruin and outrage. Likewise, when a malefic testifies to a lot, especially to the Lot of Honour, it will bring the native the ruin of livelihood and of rank, especially if it is angular; for in this way the evils become conspicuous and plain to see for natives.

The luminaries are harmful when they oppose the exaltations or the lord of the exaltation, especially when afflicted and not of the sect, or even one of them alone; for they bring dishonour and ruin to nativities. If the exaltation happens to be at the Midheaven and a malefic is in the hemisphere below the earth, natives will advance in early youth and be honoured by many, especially when a benefic regards, but later they will be brought down. If it happens the other way round, they will be unfortunate in early youth and later become distinguished. If the places are wholly afflicted, they signify misfortune for the native from youth on, just as, when benefics testify to the places, good things will become evident according to the positions of the signs and the planets. Again, if the Daemon happens to oppose the exaltation, it brings nativities into ruin. When in a nativity most of the places, or their lords, are afflicted, and the conjunctions or full moons or the Lot of Honour have the Lot of Justice, or of Enmity, or of Necessity falling together with them, or in opposition, or in square, natives come into great factional strife and are harmed in their civic standing. If the malefics are few, or the place of exaltation or its lord is afflicted, natives remain without advancement, without lustre, and under condemnation [text uncertain]. Malefics opposing or overcoming the place of rank bring ruin to nativities. If the lord of the exaltation and the lord of rank fall opposed to each other, and the lots or their masters do so too, natives come under condemnation. If Jupiter lies upon the exaltation while angular, or becomes lord of an angle, he makes men distinguished. If he happens to be in a sign or a degree of Mars, or is present with his own signs, natives will be lords of life and death. Hence the places and planets set out above, when found in productive signs, make nativities brilliant, fit to lead, and royal; in the middle signs, respectable, esteemed, and fit to rule; in the cadent places, well-off, men of affairs, placed under the authority of others, deemed worthy of trusts and offices.

Let there be, by way of example, the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter, and Mercury in Leo, Saturn and the Ascendant in Libra, Mars in Aquarius, Venus in Cancer. Such a native is fortunate, fit to lead, tyrannical, possessed of a royal fortune, and established in great wealth. For the Lot of Fortune, the Daemon, and Basis fell in the same sign, and their lady Venus was at the Midheaven in Cancer, while the lord of the triplicity and the lord of the exaltation were found in the Good Daemon, in acquisition.

举例来说，设太阳、月亮、木星与水星在狮子，土星与上升点在天秤，火星在水瓶，金星在巨蟹。这样的本命者幸运、适于统领，有僭主之格，拥有王者的好运，处在大财富之中。因为福点、精灵点与基点落在同一个星座，它们的女主人金星在巨蟹中天，而三方之主与旺点之主被发现在善灵之位，在获取之位。

Another. The Sun, Mercury, Venus, and the Ascendant in Leo, Saturn in Taurus, Jupiter in Sagittarius, Mars in Libra, the Moon in Virgo. Such a native is fit to lead, a lord of life and death; for the planets were found in fitting positions.

另一例。太阳、水星、金星与上升点在狮子，土星在金牛，木星在射手，火星在天秤，月亮在处女。这样的本命者适于统领，主宰生死；因为诸星都在相宜的位置。

Another. The Sun, the Moon, Jupiter, and the Ascendant in Aries, Saturn and Venus in Aquarius, Mars in Gemini, Mercury in Pisces. Such a native is fit to lead and tyrannical; for the lords of the triplicity were found angular and in the Ascendant, and the Lot, the Daemon, Basis, and the exaltation all fell in the same sign. But their lord Mars, having fallen out of the favourable places and being without testimony in the 3rd place, brought adversities, exile, and violent death; for he was also lord of the conjunction.

另一例。太阳、月亮、木星与上升点在白羊，土星与金星在水瓶，火星在双子，水星在双鱼。这样的本命者适于统领，有僭主之格；因为三方之主被发现居角，就在上升点，而福点、精灵点、基点与旺点全都落在同一个星座。但它们的主火星失位，在第三宫又无见证，带来逆境、流亡与横死；因为他也是合朔之主。

Another. The Sun, Jupiter, and Venus in Pisces, the Moon in Libra, Mars in Cancer, Mercury in Aquarius, Saturn in Scorpio, the Ascendant in Leo. Such a native is glorious and wields authority; for the Sun was attended by spear-bearers from the benefics and was found lying upon the Lot of Fortune together with the ruler. But since the sect-partners of the triplicity fell out of the favourable places and the lord of the Daemon was turned away, he fell from his position and withdrew of his own accord. Mars also opposed acquisition, and the lord of the exaltation did not have a suitable place, but was afflicted, being overcome by Saturn. Hence, as I said before, if most of the configurations or their lords are found suitably placed, natives will come into glory and an imposing livelihood; but if some fall out of the favourable places while others are found in fitting positions, their glory and fortune will not last.

另一例。太阳、木星与金星在双鱼，月亮在天秤，火星在巨蟹，水星在水瓶，土星在天蝎，上升在狮子。这样的本命者荣耀而掌权；因为太阳受到吉星的护卫，被发现与主星一同压在福点上。但由于三方的同方之星都已失位，精灵点之主又背离，他从地位上跌落，自愿退隐。火星也对冲获取之位，而旺点之主没有相宜的位置，却受损，被土星压制。所以，正如我前面所说，若大多数格局或它们的主被发现位置相宜，本命者就会有荣耀与气派的生计；但若有些已失位、有些在相宜的位置，他们的荣耀与好运就不会长久。
