XXI. On the Calculation of the Sun and the Five Planets.

Of the Sun, the second, the 6th, and the 12th place are good, and the 7th and 4th bad. Of the Moon, the 3rd, the 8th, and the 9th are bad, and the 5th, 11th, and 12th good. Of Saturn, the 4th and the 10th are bad, and the 6th, 8th, and 12th good. Of Jupiter, the 3rd, the 9th, the 10th, and the 11th are good, and the 4th and 7th bad. Of Mars, the 3rd, the 4th, and the 9th are good, and the 7th and 10th bad. Of Venus, the 3rd, 7th, and 8th are good, the 5th bad. Of Mercury, the 2nd, the 5th, and the 11th are bad, and the 7th, 8th, and 9th good. The remaining places of each planet are irregular.

When the planets come into these places just mentioned by their ingresses, and above all when they are masters of the periods, are in productive places, and receive testimony from benefics or malefics, they will be givers of good or of bad, according to which predominate; but if these are mixed together, both bad and good things will come about, according to the nativity of each person. Hence it is necessary always to observe the places at the transits, for the further distinction of the periods.

Of the Sun, the second, the 6th, and the 12th place are good, and the 7th and 4th bad. Of the Moon, the 3rd, the 8th, and the 9th are bad, and the 5th, 11th, and 12th good.

XXI. On Co-presence and Blending.

Let us also set out the co-presences and blendings of each planet.

Saturn and Jupiter, when they are together, are in sympathy with one another, bringing about benefits from the dead and adoptions, and making natives lords of landed property, guardians, managers of other people's affairs, stewards, lovers of letters.

Saturn and Mars are enemies, producers of adversities and downfalls. For they bring factions among one's own people, ill will, and enmities, deceits, plots, evil-doing, and lawsuits, unless, having fallen in their own or in productive signs and receiving testimony from benefics, they produce distinguished and brilliant nativities; but these are insecure in their prosperity and subject to unexpected dangers or betrayals.

Saturn and Mercury are in harmony and active; but they bring slanders on account of secret matters, lawsuits and debts, and disturbances on account of writings and money matters. They make natives neither without resources nor unintelligent, but of much experience and much learning, or able to foreknow, fond of learning, curious, initiates into hidden things, reverent toward the divine, of uneasy conscience.

Saturn and Venus are in harmony in matters of business, quick to succeed in liaisons and unions, sympathetic and beneficial, not to the end but for certain periods; then they bring about reproaches, separations, and instability, or deaths, and often make natives form their liaisons with low-born or even with public women and fall into damages or lawsuits.

Saturn and the Moon are beneficial, procurers of possessions, foundations, and shipowning, and bestowers of benefits from the dead, above all when the Moon happens to be making her course from the east and receives testimony from benefics; for this brings about introductions to greater persons, gifts, and the downfall of enemies. Yet they make natives insecure in their possessions, and, as regards the place of the wife, unsettled and grieved through certain separations, hatreds, and mournings. They also bring bodily sufferings, sudden falls, pains of the vital parts or of the sinews, and deaths of close relations.

Saturn and the Sun are not in harmony, providing possessions and friendships with envy and taking them away; hence those born under such a position endure secret enmities and threats toward greater persons, are plotted against by certain people, and will pass their lives amid envy to the end. But by behaving with dissimulation they get the better of most people; yet they are not left without resources, but are troubled and long-suffering, self-controlled in the face of the charges brought against them.

Jupiter and the Sun, going together, make natives brilliant and glorious, fit for office, fit to lead, tyrannical, active, honored and acclaimed by crowds, well-off and rich, and living with very great display; yet for certain periods they are amid reversals and envy, and above all, if the planet is found under the setting, it turns them toward greater fancies and produces a conceit of truth.

Jupiter and the Moon are good and acquisitive, making natives masters of ornament and of slaves and providing distinguished offices; they make them benefited by women and by distinguished persons, receiving benefits from their own people or from their children, deemed worthy of gifts and honors, keepers of money, or great lenders, or men entrusted with things, finders of treasures, prosperous in business.

Jupiter and Mars make natives glorious, full of display, friends of greater persons or of kings, distinguished soldiers sharing in salaries, spending their lives in public or military posts and deemed worthy of honor and glory, but uneven in their lives and characters and suffering losses of what they have acquired.

Jupiter and Venus are good and in harmony, procurers of glory and benefit, bringing acquisitions, gifts, ornaments, mastery of slaves, the begetting of children, high priesthoods, presidencies of crowds, the wearing of crowns, the wearing of gold; they make natives deemed worthy of statues and images, but uneven in marriage and in children.

Jupiter and Mercury are good, in harmony, and administrative, making natives stewards of affairs who are engaged in trusts and in the handling of money, fit for guardianships, raised up by speech or by calculation and glorified in education, with many friends and good at making introductions, deemed worthy of wages and salaries. And if they are found in productive signs, they also make natives finders of treasures, or lenders benefited by deposits.

Venus and the Sun are in harmony, glorious, and givers of good things, bringing introductions to men and women, gifts and registrations, and making natives quick to succeed in their undertakings; sometimes, then, they take on presidencies of crowds or trusts, preside over other places, and are deemed worthy of salaries; but as regards the place of the wife and children they are not free from grief, and above all if the planet happens to be under the setting.

Venus and the Moon are good with respect to glory, acquisitions, and the starting-points of affairs, but unsettled with respect to marriages, friendships, and unions, bringing rivalries and enmities, and wrongdoing or disturbances from kinsfolk or friends; likewise they are not good for the place of children or of slaves, providing possessions that do not last and bringing griefs of the soul.

Venus and Mars are not in harmony; for they make natives unsettled in their judgments and without self-control, jealous and given to violence with their own hands, having many friends or blameworthy, shameful, quick to repent, and indifferent in their intercourse with men and with women, intent on wrongdoing or poisoning, persisting neither in good things nor in bad, slandered and ill spoken of in their friendships, spendthrift, merely touching upon their affairs and desiring many things, wronged by women, or enduring lawsuits, disturbances, and debts on account of them.

Venus and Mercury are in harmony; for they make natives sociable and charming, fond of their friends and fond of pleasure, with their minds turned toward education and self-control, receiving honors and gifts; for those set in a middling fortune they bring about receipts, purchases, and transactions, and allot a shameful life; and as regards the place of the wife, they make natives unsettled, indifferent, and quick to repent in their unions.

Mercury and the Sun make natives with many friends and given to dissimulation, versatile and self-controlled, spending their lives in public places, clean, overwise, discerning, lovers of fine things, of much learning, initiates into divine things, beneficent, fond of companionship, self-sufficient, bold and cowardly by turns, bearing nobly what befalls them, unsuccessful and uneven in their lives, amid rises and falls, not without resources, but rising according to the substance of the nativity.

Mercury and the Moon are good for introductions and for the glory of men and women, for the power of speech and of education, and for other undertakings and transactions; they make natives sociable, inventive, of much experience, and curious, advanced by greater officials, much on the move, and not persevering in their actions or in their judgments with regard to the future [lacuna], noble in the face of bad things, but uneven in their lives.

Mercury and Mars are not good, bringing about enmities, lawsuits, adversities, malice, and betrayals, and making natives wronged by their superiors or by their subordinates; some they make athletes, soldiers, or beneficent teachers, curious, going through life in varied ways; they are involved in forgeries for the sake of embezzlement, robbery, and plundering, and, falling into sureties and loans, they incur notoriety or concealments. And if the configuration is afflicted, they come under charges or confinements and endure losses or deprivations of what they have acquired.

The Sun and the Moon are good; for they procure introductions to greater persons and glory, possession of foundations, property, money, and ornament, and make natives quick to succeed and to profit in the undertakings of their affairs. If the substance of the nativity is found to be great, they become rulers of cities, administrators of affairs, presidents of crowds, most splendid in display, bountiful, fit to lead, tyrannical, not subject to others, possessing a royal bearing; or, raised up from a middling fortune and becoming prosperous, they are deemed blessed; yet for such natives the good does not last, because of the waning configuration of the Moon.
