XVII. On the Transmission of the Planets, on Their Effects, and on the Ascendant.

第十七章　论诸星的交付、其效验，以及上升点。

In due order we shall also set out below the transmissions of the planets. The Sun, handing over to Saturn, makes the year bad; for it signifies inactivity and adversities, enmities or disputes, harm from superiors or elders, uprisings of the ranks, diseases or eye troubles, reversals of livelihood and fearful movements, attacks by subordinates, and the death of the father or of one like a father. When badly placed, it brings about accusations and confinements.

我们也将依次在下面列出诸星的交付。太阳交给土星，使这一年不好；因为它象征无所作为与逆境、敌意或争执、来自上位者或长者的伤害、行伍的起事、疾病或眼疾、生计的起伏与令人恐惧的变动、属下的攻击，以及父亲或如父之人的死亡。位置不好时，它带来控告与拘禁。

The Sun, handing over the year to Jupiter, shows the year to be brilliant, and glory for the father, for one who has one, recommendations of superiors, successes, gifts, and distinguished undertakings or offices, or the begetting of children, and for the unmarried it brings about marriage, and it is effective and successful in what is undertaken, displaying good hopes. — The Sun to Mars shows the year to be sickly and precarious, and danger for the father or for one of such a character; for the native himself, troubles in his affairs, success in affairs only after much examination, expenditures and untimely losses, enmities from greater persons or from the father, harm from subordinates, cuttings and haemorrhages or the bringing up of blood, pains of the ruling places or dimness of sight, invidious ailments and abuses. — The Sun to Venus shows the period to be good and agreeable; for it secures recommendations and friendships, gifts and delights, liaisons and marriages, and the begetting of children, or purchases of ornaments or of slaves, and for those in eminence offices and distinguished glories, making them overseers of greater hopes and affairs, and releasing from every ailment. — The Sun to Mercury is good, active, profitable, sociable, beneficent toward subordinate persons, effective in giving and receiving. But if somehow it is regarded by malefics, it brings lawsuits and troubles, fears on account of money or writings, condemnations of slaves and friends, untimely expenditures and losses. — The Sun to the Moon is active and kindly, bringing about acquisitions, benefits and recommendations from males and females, marriages and unions, distinguished offspring, and successes and gifts from foreigners or from abroad. — The Sun, sub-allotting to himself and well configured, brings about brilliant distinctions and undertakings in relation to superiors, greater recommendations, and unexpected benefits. And if he happens to be with benefics or receives their testimony, he brings greater glories and benefits; by night less so, or he will be troublesome, bringing about enmities and lawsuits or invidious ailments. If a malefic falls together with him or testifies, he brings diminution of livelihood or ruin of glory, precarious residences abroad, enmity or danger of the father, and troubles in affairs.

First, then, one must examine the natures and configurations of the planets; for each, when it belongs to its own sect and is well configured, will show the powers of its effects according to the substance of the nativity, since the testimony of the others and the entry have great power to break or to intensify the evil, or to benefit and to glorify. It is better, then, for them to be found in productive signs and oriental; but if they happen to be under the setting, or fall out of the favourable places, afflicted unfavourably, they will turn to the contrary.

所以首先必须审视诸星的本性与格局；因为每颗星属于自己的一方而格局良好时，会按本命的根基显出它效验的力量，因为其余诸星的见证与进入有很大的力量，能打破或加剧恶事，或使人得益、得荣耀。所以它们被发现在得力的星座且东出，较好；但若它们恰好在西沉之下，或已失位，受到不利的伤害，就会转向相反。

XVIII. The Sub-Allotments of the Moon.

第十八章　月亮的次分配。

The Moon, sub-allotting to herself, is unpleasant; for she brings enmities and lawsuits from greater persons, and ups and downs of livelihood, and counter-suits of members of the household or of a wife; and if a malefic regards her, she brings about bodily sicknesses and sudden dangers. In this period one must also examine the very sign in which the Moon is, lest a malefic coming upon it by entry bring about something worse; but if a benefic, it brings release from the ailments, though it brings residence abroad and changes of place, and so brings about success in affairs for those without resources and the cure of what is bad. — The Moon, sub-allotting to the Sun, brings about the emptying of livelihood and very many expenditures, and especially if she is regarded by malefics, she displays hindrances of undertakings and empty hopes, factions and troubles, the unsettledness of members of the household, and entanglements with women or marriages; but for those who are in stability and glory of livelihood, expenditures for purchases or for success in affairs and advancement, or for some gifts and benefactions. — The Moon, sub-allotting to Saturn, makes the year varied and in suspense, and brings sickness or death of the mother, if she is living, enmities and unsettledness of affairs, changes of place, the cooling of undertakings, bodily dangers, and pains of the hidden parts or of the sense organs, especially when she is waning; when she is in her rising the evil is less, but the period is harmful and grievous. — The Moon to Jupiter shows the period to be good and active, in acquisition and the recommendation of the great, glories and offices, benefits and gifts from women; for the unmarried, marriage; for the married, the begetting of children; agreeable liaisons, or increase of the mother's livelihood or glory, for those who have a mother; success in affairs and the fulfilment of what is expected and hoped for. — The Moon handing over to Mars: the year is harsh, and especially if she is moving from her rising by day; for it brings about dangers and sicknesses, haemorrhages and falls, or attacks of fire, losses, unsettledness of members of the household, deaths or separations of women, enmities and lawsuits, confinements and uprisings of crowds. If the Moon happens to be subtractive or is carried under the setting, especially by night, when the periods are approaching bad things, it makes the year not easily successful for enterprises, with fears and toils. — The Moon to Venus shows the period to be enterprising and effective, with glories and recommendations from males and females, sympathies and marriages. But if somehow they happen to be unfavourably placed or are regarded by malefics, unpleasantness, envies, expenses on female persons, and rejections. In general, this transmission always brings jealousies, factions, unsettledness, and enmities toward kin or household or friendly persons. — The Moon to Mercury is active and successful with respect to female persons and recommendations, especially if she is configured with benefics; but if with malefics, natives will endure lawsuits and troubles on account of money, writings, or matters of reckoning, and will endure a great contest; and if Mercury is found suitably placed, they prevail; but if unsuitably, they will be condemned and will make very many expenditures.

XIX. The Sub-Allotments of the Ascendant.

第十九章　上升点的次分配。

The Ascendant, if it hands over to a malefic, makes the period worst, especially to Saturn by night and to Mars by day; for it brings bodily dangers and reversals of livelihood, fears and troubling ailments, falls or injuries. — The Ascendant to Jupiter shows the period to be brilliant and acquisitive, with glories and distinguished ranks; some are benefited and promoted by the great, some, released from dangers or charges, become easily consoled, and some obtain their freedom. — The Ascendant to Venus shows the period to be good and charming, with recommendations, entanglements with women, purchases, merriment, and release from evils. — The Ascendant to the Sun shows the year to be more sympathetic toward greater and superior persons, and acquisitive; for those in glory, greater ranks and advancements. — The Ascendant to the Moon is unchanging and active, with benefits and recommendations from women, renewals, and successful undertakings and residences abroad, and especially if benefics testify, successes abroad; if malefics, the opposite, and troubles besides. — The Ascendant to Mercury is active, profitable, and successful; but if it is harmed by malefics, litigious and harmful.

上升点若交给凶星，就使这段时期最坏，尤其夜里交给土星、白天交给火星；因为它带来身体的危险与生计的起伏、恐惧与令人困扰的病痛、跌落或伤损。——上升点交给木星，显示这段时期光彩而有获取，有荣耀与显赫的品级；有些人受大人物的益处与提拔，有些人从危险或控告中解脱而容易得到宽慰，有些人获得自由。——上升点交给金星，显示这段时期良好而迷人，有推荐、与女人的纠葛、购置、欢乐，以及从恶事中解脱。——上升点交给太阳，显示这一年对较大而居上的人物更有亲和，且有获取；对有荣耀的人，有更高的品级与晋升。——上升点交给月亮，是不变而有作为的，有来自女人的利益与推荐、更新、成功的事业与客居异乡，尤其若吉星作见证，在异乡成功；若凶星作见证，则相反，还有困扰。——上升点交给水星，有作为、有利而成功；但若它受凶星伤害，就多讼而有害。

Likewise the planets handing over to the Ascendant bring about the same things; but according to each one's own position, or the reverse, the effect too will be judged, whether beneficent or bad.

同样，交给上升点的诸星也带来同样的事；但效验也要按每颗星自己的位置来判断，或者反过来，看是施恩的还是不好的。
