III. On the Lot of Fortune and Its Ruler.

第三章　论福点及其主星

Wishing to establish more precisely the topic of prosperity, I return to the Lot of Fortune, which is a most necessary and powerful place, as the King too declared in mystic fashion at the beginning of his thirteenth book, saying: "Then next, for those born by day, one must clearly count from the Sun to the Moon, and set off the equal amount back again from the Ascendant, and observe the place that results: of which planet it is the domicile, which planet or planets are present in it, and how its squares or trines are occupied by planets. For from this joint knowledge of the places you will judge the affairs of natives clearly." Petosiris, likewise, set out this place in his Definitions, and others treat it in other ways; we too shall set it out at the proper time, along with other procedures that bear on the account of prosperity. But now we must speak of the matter at hand.

IV. On the Planet That Has Obtained the Hour or the Lot.

第四章　论得了「时刻」或福点的行星

Saturn, having obtained the Hour or being ruler of the Lot, with Mars not opposing: such a native will prosper in the business allotted by Saturn; if he receives testimony from Jupiter, doubly so; if from Venus, through a woman or a man without seed; if Mars is with him or opposes him, such a native will live in disturbances and adversities; if Mercury is in the Ascendant together with him, such a native will be impeded in his hearing. Jupiter, presiding over the Hour or the Lot, makes natives very fortunate from youth; if Mars is present, or angular together with him, or in trine, the native will advance in brilliant military campaigns and will acquire a livelihood; if Saturn too is added, they come to positions of eminence; if Venus as well, still more so; if Mercury as well, they are engaged in receiving and giving. Mars, having obtained the Hour or presiding over the Lot, produces an impulse toward military service; if Jupiter also testifies, the native will advance in rank; if Venus too, they attain ranks of no ordinary kind; if Mercury is also present, the native, having alone received a deposit, will deny it; if Jupiter too, he will acquire much from many, but after his death his property will pass to the royal treasury. Venus, having obtained the Hour or the Lot, signifies great goods and makes natives highly renowned; if Mercury is present with her, she makes them musicians; but when things are so, Saturn, opposing or overcoming them, deprives them of their possessions. Mercury, having obtained the Hour or presiding over the Lot, makes natives fortunate; if Jupiter also joins him or squares him, they will hold offices over courts and cities; if Saturn too joins these, the offices, honours, goods, and advancements will be doubled. The Sun, having been allotted the Hour or presiding over Fortune: if Jupiter is present with him or testifies by square, the native will be fortunate. If Mercury too is present with him, he will advance through speech; if Mars too is present or squares him together with Jupiter, he will be great and will be lord of life and death. But if, when things are so, Saturn squares or opposes, they will fall into misfortunes and losses. The Moon, having been allotted the Hour or the Lot of Fortune, makes natives great, especially in her own triplicity; if Venus is with her or happens to be in square, the native will be deemed worthy of great honour; if Mars too is with the Moon, he will be lord of life and death; if Saturn, he will lead many lands; if Jupiter too is present or squares, they will be great kings. But if, these being absent, Mercury is configured with the Moon, their advancements will come from speech and dexterity; if Mars too joins or squares, he makes tyrants and grandees. If Mars opposes the Moon without the benefics, he makes infants that are exposed; but if a benefic is present with Mars, the exposed child will be reared. Likewise, if Mars appears in square or is found overcoming the Moon, he involves the native in wanderings, abductions, or reversals; if Venus squares her from an angle, they are wronged by women. If Saturn is present with her in a licentious sign, they will even keep brothels; if Mars too testifies along with them, they will hire out their own wives to others. If Saturn squares or opposes the Moon while standing in an equal-line position to Jupiter [text uncertain], the child will have support for its rearing and will be cast out by its parents. If Mercury is in square or in opposition to the Moon, natives are contrary in counsel and contrary in judgement, and will become involved in slanders and accusations from a superior. If a malefic also testifies along with them or is configured with them, he will bring them into disgrace and condemnation. Jupiter, opposing the Moon by degree, causes deprivation of children and opposition from superiors. In general, the malefics, when they regard the luminaries and the Ascendant without the benefics, make natives short-lived. The lord of the Ascendant, when it is suitably placed or of its own sect, becomes the allotter of the years of life; and if it is in some way configured with the master of the Lot, the native becomes long-lived and fortunate; but if it is under the setting, short-lived. If a malefic is present with the Moon or overcomes her, the infants will be unfit to rear.

V. The Place of the Bad Daemon: Many Configurations.

第五章　恶灵之位：诸般格局

If the malefics happen to be in this place, they bring about great injuries and falls, especially if they are in their own face. If the Lot of Fortune is in it and one of them is lord of it, there will never be any benefit, not even in the transits; for they were hostile from the beginning, by reason of the aversion. Likewise the benefics, in this place, do not distribute their own goods. When the three planets, the lord of the Ascendant, of the Lot, and of the Daemon, fall in this sign, they make natives unfortunate, disgraced, and in want of their daily bread; and many will hold out their hands to beg.

凶星若恰好在这个位置，造成大的伤损与跌落，尤其是它们在自己的本面时。若福点在其中，而凶星之一是它的主，就永远不会有任何益处，即使在行经时也没有；因为由于背离，它们从一开始就是敌对的。同样，吉星在这个位置也不分配自己的好处。当三颗行星，即上升点之主、福点之主与精灵点之主，落在这个星座时，使本命者不幸、蒙羞，缺乏每日的口粮；许多人会伸手乞讨。

VI. The Place of the Good Daemon: Many Configurations. One Must Also Inquire about Hearing and Seeing Signs.

第六章　善灵之位：诸般格局。还须查问相听与相望的星座。

If the benefics are in the sign of the Good Daemon, suitably placed or in their own faces, they make natives illustrious and wealthy from youth; and more so when they also regard the Lot of Fortune by trine and the Ascendant by sextile; in a hearing or seeing sign they furnish very many and still greater goods. If one of the benefics appears in opposition to the Good Daemon while the ruler is present there, they bring about great and still greater goods and advancements; but if malefics are present with the Good Daemon, they have no power to do any harm. It is of still greater consequence if the ruler of the Lot, of the Ascendant, and of the Daemon are in their rising, or if very many planets are present with them or testify to them in productive signs; for they make natives glorious and exceedingly wealthy.

吉星若在善灵所在的星座，位置相宜或在自己的本面，使本命者从青年起就显赫而富有；若它们又以三分照看福点、以六分照看上升点，就更是如此；在相听或相望的星座，它们提供极多而更大的好处。若吉星之一对冲善灵之位，而主星在那里，就带来大的、更大的好处与晋升；但若凶星与善灵之位同在，它们无力造成任何伤害。更有分量的是，福点之主、上升点之主与精灵点之主都在东升之中，或有极多行星与它们同在、或在得力的星座为它们作见证；因为这使本命者荣耀而极其富有。

In this place both the benefics and the malefics rejoice most when they have been allotted the Lot, the Ascendant, or the Daemon; and if either of the planets falls in it while oriental, or while holding the application of the Moon, natives become tyrants or kings ruling over lands, and they will be named in many places. The lord of this place, when well placed, makes natives active; when unsuitably placed, inactive; and if it is in the setting place and a malefic is present in the place or opposes it, it makes natives unsuccessful, barren, or childless.

在这个位置，吉星与凶星在分得福点、上升点或精灵点时都最为欢喜；若两类行星中有一颗东出而落在其中，或接受月亮的入相，本命者就成为僭主或统领诸地的君王，在许多地方扬名。这个位置之主若位置良好，使本命者有作为；位置不相宜，使他们无所作为；若它在下降之位，又有凶星在这个位置同在或对冲它，就使本命者不成功、不育或无子女。
