XXVII. On the Distribution of the Times.

[1] We shall briefly show how great the distribution of the times is: the Sun receives 19 months, the Moon 25 months, Saturn 30 months, Jupiter 12 months, Mars 15 months, Venus 8 months, Mercury 20 months.

〔一〕时期的分配有多少，我们简短地说明：太阳得十九个月，月亮二十五个月，土星三十个月，木星十二个月，火星十五个月，金星八个月，水星二十个月。

[2] What comes about through this distribution of the times we shall state in the books of effects, and we shall show what each planet decrees on receiving the time from another planet; for everything good or bad that befalls us we gather by this method of the times. The ends of life will also be found in this way, and the whole substance of the nativity, and all that the order of the planets has decreed.

〔二〕这种时期的分配带来什么，我们将在论效验的各卷里说明，并说明每颗行星从另一颗行星手里接过时期时判定什么；因为降临到我们身上的一切好事坏事，我们都凭这种时期之法推求。生命的终点也照这样找到，还有本命的全部实质，以及诸星的次序所判定的一切。

[3] The year we find by the easiest methods; for it always takes its beginning from the Ascendant, and the first year will be in the sign in which the Ascendant is placed, the second in the second sign, the third in the third, and the rest in order in the same way.

〔三〕年我们用最容易的方法求出；因为它总是从上升点开始，第一年在上升点所在的星座，第二年在第二个星座，第三年在第三个，其余的也照这样依次推下去。

[4] Others do the same thing from the Sun in a day nativity and from the Moon in a night one; and this has a rationale.

XXVIII. On the Division of the Year.

第二十八章　论年的划分

[1] The days of the whole year are also divided among the individual planets; how they are divided and where they take their beginning I shall take care to show as well [lacuna]

〔一〕全年的日子也分给各颗行星；怎样分，从哪里开始，这我也要用心说明〔此处原文有缺〕

[2] when sicknesses, when weaknesses, when gains, when losses come, when joys, when griefs. For when the benefic planets have received the days, we are freed from every evil; when the malefics, then sudden chances of misfortune assail us.

〔二〕何时有疾病，何时有虚弱，何时有得，何时有失，何时有喜乐，何时有悲伤。因为吉星接过日子时，我们便摆脱一切祸患；凶星接过时，突如其来的不幸变故就向我们袭来。

[3] In whatever sign, then, the beginning of the year is, the lord of that sign receives the first days, and after it the others, according as each is placed. How many days each planet is allotted I shall also teach: the Sun 53 days, the Moon 71, Saturn 85, Jupiter 30, Mars 42, Venus 23, Mercury 57.

〔三〕所以，年的开端在哪个星座，那个星座的主就接过最初的日子，其后是其余诸星，按各自所在的位置。每颗行星分得多少日，我也要教：太阳五十三日，月亮七十一日，土星八十五日，木星三十日，火星四十二日，金星二十三日，水星五十七日。

[4] In this span of days we can find everything that befalls us, but only after first examining the quality of the signs and places; for a planet that is well placed, if it has been allotted the time or the months or the days and is benefic, decrees all good things. But if a malefic planet has received the time or the months or the days and is badly placed, it decrees misfortunes according to the quality of the places. By handling everything, then, with prudent inquiry, you will be able to explain most truly the whole substance of the nativity.

XXIX. On the Antiscia.

第二十九章　论映点

[1] Since a little earlier we postponed the treatment of the antiscia out of all these points of instruction, we must now explain this topic, so that nothing may seem to have been passed over by us in this instruction.

〔一〕在这一切入门的讲授中，因为我们稍早把映点的讲解推迟了，现在必须讲明这个题目，免得在这部入门书里显得有什么被我们略过。

[2] The antiscia have been handed down to us by the teaching of the Greeks; for I would not have anyone suspect that this treatment is not found among the Greeks. For Ptolemy too follows no other method than that of the antiscia, and Antiochus, when he says that Libra does not see Aries because of the earth that lies between them, touched on the method of the antiscia as if through a mirror; while Dorotheus of Sidon, a most learned man who wrote of effects in most truthful and most eloquent verses, explained the method of the antiscia in clear statements, namely in his fourth book.

[3] Now I shall briefly explain on what principle the antiscia are gathered. The beginning of the antiscia is either from Gemini and Cancer or from Sagittarius and Capricorn. We, then, in our instruction begin from Gemini and Cancer: Gemini sends its antiscion into Cancer and Cancer into Gemini, Leo into Taurus and Taurus into Leo, Virgo into Aries and Aries into Virgo, Pisces into Libra and Libra into Pisces, Aquarius into Scorpio and Scorpio into Aquarius, Sagittarius into Capricorn and Capricorn into Sagittarius. If, on the other hand, we make the beginning from Sagittarius and Capricorn, they end in the same way in Gemini and Cancer. All these things, then, we must always handle with shrewd inquiry, so that so honorable a profession may never be overshadowed by the false lies of effects.

[4] But what we have said about the antiscia is not sufficient unless the degrees too are explained in detail: which degree sends into which degree, and whose antiscion they in turn receive. And among other things one must know this, that no degree sends into the 30th degree of a sign, and that the 30th sends its antiscion into no degree.

〔四〕但我们关于映点所说的还不够，除非连度数也逐一讲明：哪一度送入哪一度，它们又反过来接受谁的映点。在其他事情之中还必须知道：没有哪一度送入一个星座的第三十度，第三十度也不把映点送入任何一度。

[5] This example, then, which we have made of Gemini and Cancer, will apply to the antiscia of all the signs: the 1st degree of Gemini sends its antiscion into the 29th degree of Cancer, and in turn the 29th degree of Cancer sends its antiscion into the 1st degree of Gemini; the 2nd into the 28th, the 28th into the 2nd; the 3rd into the 27th, the 27th into the 3rd; the 4th into the 26th, the 26th into the 4th; the 5th into the 25th, the 25th in turn into the 5th; the 6th into the 24th, in turn the 24th into the 6th; the 7th into the 23rd, the 23rd into the 7th; the 8th into the 22nd, the 22nd into the 8th; the 9th into the 21st, the 21st in turn into the 9th; the 10th into the 20th, the 20th in turn into the 10th; the 11th into the 19th, the 19th in turn into the 11th;

[6] Thus Gemini and Cancer send antiscia into each other; for the degree from which a degree has received an antiscion is the one to which it in turn sends its own antiscion. In the same way Taurus and Leo send into each other, so too Virgo and Aries, so Libra and Pisces, so Scorpio and Aquarius, so Sagittarius and Capricorn.

〔六〕所以双子与巨蟹彼此送入映点；因为一度从哪一度接受了映点，就反过来把自己的映点送回那一度。同样，金牛与狮子彼此相送，处女与白羊也是，天秤与双鱼也是，天蝎与水瓶也是，射手与摩羯也是。

[7] So that this may be understood more clearly, namely which sign sends its antiscion into which sign, I have written out the degrees themselves in detail, so that all obscurity might be resolved: into whatever degree the first degree has sent its antiscion, from that same degree it in turn receives an antiscion, and so the second, and so the rest. We have written out the degrees of Gemini and Cancer, an example which it is fitting to observe in the degrees of the other signs too, namely of those signs which we say send antiscia into each other.

[8] So Taurus into Leo, and so Leo in turn into Taurus; so Aries into Virgo, and so Virgo in turn into Aries; so Pisces into Libra, and so Libra in turn into Pisces; so Scorpio into Aquarius, and so Aquarius into Scorpio; so Sagittarius into Capricorn, and so Capricorn in turn into Sagittarius.

〔八〕金牛就这样送入狮子，狮子也这样反过来送入金牛；白羊这样送入处女，处女也这样反过来送入白羊；双鱼这样送入天秤，天秤也这样反过来送入双鱼；天蝎这样送入水瓶，水瓶这样送入天蝎；射手这样送入摩羯，摩羯也这样反过来送入射手。

[9] If, then, any planets do not see each other in the arrangement of the nativity, one must inquire whether they are joined to each other in an associated aspect by antiscion. For when they have sent their antiscia in such a way that they join each other by antiscion in a trine, square, opposite, or sextile aspect, they decree just as if they were so arranged in the simple ordering; and in this way all these things are completed by the method of mixtures. When you have done this, you will be able most easily to find everything that is sought in the fates of men. This hidden method of the antiscia is grounded in a natural sympathy; I shall take care to explain this method at another time.

[10] How much the force of the antiscia avails and how much the method of the antiscia achieves you will be able to learn from this nativity, which we shall take care to set below. The man in whose nativity the Sun was in Pisces, the Moon in Cancer, Saturn in Virgo, Jupiter in Pisces in the same degree as the Sun, Mars in Aquarius, Venus in Taurus, Mercury in Aquarius in the same degrees as Mars, and the Ascendant in Scorpio: the father of this native, after a double ordinary consulship, was sent into exile; and he himself too was sent into exile on a charge of adultery, and, snatched back from exile, was first appointed to the administration of Campania, then to the proconsulship of Achaea, and afterward to the proconsulship of Asia and the prefecture of the city of Rome.

[11] Any man who, ignorant of the method of the antiscia, sees the Sun with Jupiter in the same degrees in the 5th place from the Ascendant, that is, in Good Fortune, and accordingly assigns Jupiter's influence to him, will pronounce the father blessed, happy, powerful, and other things of this kind about him; but about his exile and the constant plots against him he will be able to pronounce nothing, unless he has turned his attention to the method of the antiscia [probably: for "assigns Jupiter's influence to him" read "sees Saturn in opposition to Jupiter"] [text uncertain].

〔十一〕任何人倘若不懂映点之法，看到太阳与木星同度在从上升点起的第五宫，即好运之宫，因而把木星的影响归给他，就会断言父亲有福、幸运、有权势，以及关于他的其他这类话；但关于他的流放和不断加于他的阴谋，他却什么也断言不出，除非他把注意转向映点之法〔推测：「把木星的影响归给他」当作「又见土星与木星对冲」〕〔原文疑有讹误〕。

[12] You remember that we said Pisces sends its antiscion into Libra and Libra in turn into Pisces. The Sun, then, placed together with Jupiter in Pisces, sending its antiscion into Libra, into the sign in which it is depressed and cast down, and into the 12th place of the nativity, that is, the kakodaemon, shows the father's family to be ignoble and decrees for the father himself a notorious exile; while Jupiter, whose force and power the ray of the antiscion carried from the sign of Pisces to the sign of Libra, placed by antiscion in the 12th place, that is, in the kakodaemon, stirred up a great many enemies both for him and for his father and made them prevail.

〔十二〕你记得我们说过，双鱼把映点送入天秤，天秤反过来送入双鱼。所以，太阳与木星一同落在双鱼，把映点送入天秤，送入它低落而被打落的星座，又送入本命的第十二宫，即恶灵之宫，便显示父亲的家世卑微，并为父亲本人判定了一场声名狼藉的流放；而木星，它的力量与权能被映点的光线从双鱼座带到天秤座，经由映点落在第十二宫，即恶灵之宫，就为他和他的父亲激起了极多的仇敌，并使他们占了上风。

[13] See also another thing that decreed exile for the father: Saturn, placed in Virgo, saw the Sun by opposition and aspected its antiscion with an opposite aspect; for, placed in Virgo, it sent its antiscion into Aries. Its antiscion, then, placed in Aries, and the antiscion of the Sun, which had been sent into Libra, being made contrary to each other by opposition, caused him to be sent into exile by decree of the most distinguished order, because the antiscia of Saturn and of the Sun, placed in the cosmic signs, saw each other by opposition.

〔十三〕再看另一件为父亲判定流放的事：土星落在处女，以对冲看着太阳，又以对冲的相位照着太阳的映点；因为它落在处女，把映点送入了白羊。所以，它落在白羊的映点，与被送入天秤的太阳映点，经由对冲彼此敌对，便使他由最显赫的阶层下令流放，因为土星与太阳的映点落在宇宙星座之中，以对冲彼此相看。

[14] What principle made the native himself an exile and what made him an adulterer (for this was the charge brought against him) is shown by the following reasoning. We have said that Cancer sends its antiscion into Gemini; the Moon, then, placed in Cancer, sent its antiscion into Gemini, and Mars, placed in Aquarius, aspected this antiscion from the right side; and Mars is pernicious whenever it has received the light of the waxing Moon from any side. For Mars, being in the superior position, finally made this same man an exile, along with many bodily ailments.

[15] But Mars itself, placed in Aquarius, sent its antiscion into Scorpio, the sign in which the degree of the Ascendant had been placed; and first, placed in the lower Midheaven, it struck the degree of life, that is, of the Ascendant, with a violent aspect; next, it aspected with a full trine aspect the antiscion of the Moon placed in Gemini; third, its antiscion sat on the degree of the Ascendant; fourth, the antiscion of Mars, which it had sent into the Ascendant, saw by trine the Moon placed in Cancer.

〔十五〕但火星本身落在水瓶，把映点送入了天蝎，即上升点之度所在的星座；首先，它落在地底中天，以猛烈的相位打击了生命之度，也就是上升点之度；其次，它以完满的三分相位照着落在双子的月亮映点；第三，它的映点坐在上升点之度上；第四，火星送入上升点的映点，以三分看着落在巨蟹的月亮。

[16] Struck, then, on all sides by the rays of Mars, the waxing Moon made him, overwhelmed by many ailments, finally an exile; and if Jupiter, placed in Pisces, had not seen the Ascendant by trine, he would never have been freed from exile, and if it had not seen by trine the Moon in its exaltation (for Cancer is the exaltation of Jupiter), he would have perished by a violent death. But we have said in earlier parts that benefits of this kind from Jupiter fail for this reason, that on the third day the Moon, placed in Leo and full of light, dashed itself by opposition against the rays of Mars; and this day, that is, the third, has very great effect in nativities.

[17] What principle made him an adulterer I shall also take care to explain. Mars, placed in Aquarius, sent its antiscion into Scorpio; the antiscion of Mars thus found Venus placed in the Descendant of the nativity; and Venus is wretched and entangled in many calamities if, placed in the Descendant, it is battered by a violent aspect of Mars. And again, the antiscion of Venus, sent into Leo, aspected by opposition Mars placed in Aquarius in the lower Midheaven; and from the lower Midheaven Mars, even without the method of the antiscion, is joined to Venus by a square aspect. By every method, then, both by themselves and by antiscia, Venus and Mars, in the chief angles of the nativity, assail each other with square or opposite aspects in a hostile kind of association. This principle made him guilty of adultery.

[18] Mercury, placed in Aquarius without the testimony of Jupiter, that is, in the house of Saturn, and Saturn in the house of Mercury, having exchanged houses with each other, make him learned in secret letters. And because Venus sent its antiscion from Taurus into Leo, that is, into the house of the Sun, and into the Midheaven, it caused the emperor to pronounce sentence against him on these charges.

〔十八〕水星落在水瓶、没有木星的见证，即在土星的庙里，而土星在水星的庙里，两者互换了庙，就使他通晓隐秘的文字。又因为金星把映点从金牛送入狮子，即太阳的庙，又送入中天，就使皇帝因这些罪名对他宣判。

[19] The very highest honors were decreed for him by the Moon placed with full light in the 9th place, in its own house, especially because in a night nativity, following the power of its own condition, it held the chief role in decreeing honors; Saturn and Mercury, with their houses exchanged, also decreed learning and so great a knowledge of letters that his speech and style are compared with the ancient authors.

[20] Whose nativity this is, Lollianus, our glory, you know very well. Having handled all these matters, then, you will find how great the force of the antiscia is; and if anyone has attained it by careful study, the aim of his conjecture will never deceive him as he handles the fates of men.
