VIII. A Necessary Example.

Let there be by way of example a nativity as follows: the Sun and Venus in Cancer, the Moon and the Ascendant in Pisces, Saturn and the full moon in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Capricorn, Mars in Scorpio, Mercury in Leo, the Lot of Fortune in Leo, the Daemon in Scorpio; I seek year 70. I counted off the bodily periods from Leo, giving first to Leo itself 19 years, then to Virgo 20 years, then to Libra 8 years, then to Scorpio 15 years: this makes 62 years. In these the native had many climacterics, falls from a height, and fractures of limbs. Next, the remaining 8 years from Sagittarius, where Saturn lay contrary to his sect; in these he also underwent shipwrecks and bodily troubles. We take the cause of the suffering from the sign in which the lord of the Lot is found passing through; for example, the Lot was in Leo, and the lord of Leo, the Sun, was found in Cancer; Cancer signifies the chest and the stomach; we say, then, that the cause of the suffering arose from Cancer. For the sign takes the sub-allotments of the years and makes them of 360 days each; for the 5¼ days one adds to the years by reckoning them separately. Sagittarius, then, gave a year to Sagittarius; to Capricorn 2 years 3 months; to Aquarius 2 years 6 months; to Pisces a year; then to Aries the rest, to complete the 8 years [corrected: Kroll prints 9]. Mars, then, being lord of the bodily periods, receiving from Sagittarius, where Saturn lay upon Sagittarius, brought on the end; the native died after being injured in the stomach and having first suffered from a cough; for the place of death was also in Pisces, with the Moon lying upon it and Saturn overcoming it, from which comes the power. And besides, Saturn himself, the lord of the full moon, being turned away, brought on the form of violent death. The injury of the stomach and the cough came because the lord of the Lot, the Sun, was found in Cancer; and Cancer shows the chest and the stomach. The active periods I made from Scorpio, giving to Mars himself 15 years, then to Sagittarius 12, where Saturn lay; up to 27 years the native was a wanderer, subject to reversals. A considerable part of his livelihood was spent by guardians; for the place of acquisition was in Gemini, and none of the benefics regarded it, while Saturn alone opposed it. Next Capricorn received for 27 years, with Jupiter lying upon it and being in the Good Daemon, rising at nightfall and regarded by the Sun and Venus; and it brought down the whole span of time as active: the native was entrusted with public and royal undertakings, became a friend of governors and kings, and admittedly acquired much, though from time to time he endured adversities and reversals according to the receptions or testimonies of the malefics; but his acquisition did not last, because Jupiter was found subtractive and in his own depression. After Capricorn, when Aquarius received the periods, with Mars and Mercury testifying and the benefics turned away, he himself ceased from his undertakings and lost much through trusting naively, and he handed over his trusts to members of his household and to slaves, through whose negligence and scarcity he fell into debts and was found fallen from his position, because the general substance too bore it so. Aquarius itself, then, received 2 years 6 months, then Jupiter 1 year, then Mars a year and 3 months, then Venus 8 months, then Mercury 1 year 8 months; from then on his affairs went into great diminution; next the Moon received 2 years 1 month; in these he seemed to recover some of what he had entrusted before and to obtain help from friends. Then likewise the Sun received 1 year 7 months in Leo, and Mercury in Virgo 1 year 8 months; since malefics testified to the places and to Mercury, in these periods he was brought down; for the Lot was found in a cadent place, and so was Mars, the lord of the triplicity of the Moon. After Mercury's period Venus received 8 months, next Mars a year and 3 months, then Sagittarius 1 year; and the end came.

IX. On the Cosmic Year and the Year for the Division: How Many Days Each Has, and How One Must Reckon.

Since the cosmic year is of 365¼ days, while the year for the division is of 360 [corrected: Kroll prints 37], we shall take away the 5 days of each year and the quarter-day of the years, collect them into years, and then make the divisions; for this is how we reckoned in the nativity set out above. For example, let someone be bringing down 33 years by nativity, born on Tybi 15, and let one seek Mesori 20 of the 33rd year. I took the 5 days of each of the 30 years: they make 150; and of the two full years, 10; and the quarter of the 32: this makes 8; altogether they make 168. Then I took from Tybi 15 up to the day we seek, Mesori 20: this makes 215; I added these to the 168: they have become 383; from these I subtract 360: remainder 23. The nativity, then, will be bringing down, according to the division, 33 full years and 23 days; these years and days I use in the release of the periods.

X. On the Allotment of the Years, Months, Greater and Lesser Days, and Hours of Each Planet, and Their Use in Nativities.

Just as, by taking the twelfth of the years of each period, we shall learn how many days each allots. For example, since Aries allots 15 years, the twelfth of these is 15 months; likewise the twelfth of these is 37½ days; and again the twelfth of these is 3 days 3 hours. These are to be allotted according to the time that applies. The sub-allotment of the other planets will be found in this way, for example if one attends to the division and finds it for general, yearly, and monthly periods, and for days and hours [text uncertain]. We shall therefore set out below in finer detail what applies to each planet, so that readers may not be confused. For example: the Sun, 19 years, 19 months, 47½ days, 3 days 23 hours. The Moon, 25 years, 25 months, 62½ days, 5 days 5 hours. Saturn, 30 years, 30 months, 75 days, 6 days 6 hours. Capricorn, 27 years, 27 months, 67½ days, 5 days 15 hours. Jupiter, 12 years, 12 months, 30 days, 2 days 12 hours. Mars, 15 years, 15 months, 37½ days, 3 days 3 hours. Venus, 8 years, 8 months, 20 days, 1 day 16 hours. Mercury, 20 years, 20 months, 50 days, 4 days 4 hours. When, then, we find a nativity of 50 or 60 years, we shall make the release of the years from the Lot of Fortune or the Daemon by sign, giving to each the period of its years so far as it can comply; then we shall give months, then days and hours. If the nativity is found to be that of an infant, we shall allot from the release first hours, then days, then months.

For example, let there be, for the sake of illustration, the Sun and Mercury in Capricorn, Saturn and Jupiter in Leo, Mars and Venus in Aquarius, the Moon in Gemini, the Ascendant in Leo, the Lot of Fortune in Pisces, that of the Daemon in Capricorn; let the release of Fortune accordingly be from Pisces. Let one seek Mesori 16 of the fourth year, together with the 5 days of each year. Since Pisces has not yet allotted its 12, I gave it 1 year, then to Aries 1 year 3 months, to Taurus 8 months: this makes 2 years 11 months. Next it will give to Mercury 1 year 8 months, up to the completion of four years and 7 months; but the nativity has not yet completed this time. Let Mercury, then, be chronocrator, already having 8 months 15 days: this makes 255 days; these must be sub-allotted in order; of these Mercury gave first to himself, that is, to Gemini, 50 days, then to Cancer 62½ days, then to Leo 47½ days, then to Virgo 50, then to Libra 20: this makes 230 days; remainder 25 days. These Mars will have in Scorpio out of the days of Venus, up to the completion of the 37½; Mars, then, will sub-allot the 25 days to the signs in order: first to himself 3 days 3 hours, then to Sagittarius 2½ days, then to Capricorn 5 days 15 hours, then to Aquarius 6 days 6 hours, then to Pisces 2½ days; to Aries 3 days 3 hours [corrected: Kroll prints 30 hours], to Taurus the rest, to complete the 25 days. The general ruler of the cosmos, then, is Jupiter; second Mercury, receiving from Jupiter; third Mars, from Mercury; fourth Venus, from Mars. One will have to examine these in the nativity, how they lie and how they are configured with one another, and so make one's pronouncement.

Some also sub-allot the days according to the triplicity; hence in some nativities, when a benefic ruler of the cosmos, or the Sun, or the Moon, was found to be general, it secured glory and command, or distinguished offices, benefits, and the recommendations of the great. In these periods a malefic, receiving the sub-division by sub-allotment, produced bodily sicknesses or dangers, or else, receiving days and opposing the general chronocrator, or being configured unfavourably in the nativity and by transit, contrived troubles, fears, and losses. And if the general chronocrator happens to be badly placed in the nativity or viewed by malefics, in the days of these by sub-division natives will be brought down, or run risks, or adverse things will happen. But if, when these receive, the general chronocrator is found in productive signs, receiving testimony from benefics by transit, natives, though harassed in livelihood and glory, will remain without stumbling. In the daily divisions too one must make the loosing of the bond, after the 528 days of the cycle have been completed, by counting off the remaining days in order in the sign opposite the release; likewise also for the days and hours in finer detail, after the 44 days of the cycle have been completed, count off the rest in order from the opposite sign.

也有人按三方次分配日数；因此在某些本命中，当吉星为宇宙之主，或太阳、月亮被发现为总主时，就获得荣耀与权柄，或显赫的职位、利益与权贵的推荐。在这些时期，一颗凶星以次分配接受细分，就造成身体的疾病或危险；或者接受日数而与总时主对冲，或在本命中与过境时格局不利，就招来困扰、恐惧与损失。若总时主恰在本命中位置不好，或被凶星照看，那么在这些星按细分所得的日子里，本命者就会被拖垮，或冒险，或遭遇不利之事。但若在这些星接受时，总时主被发现在得力的星座，过境时又受吉星见证，本命者虽在生计与荣耀上受扰，仍会不致跌倒。在按日的划分中也必须解结：一轮的五百二十八日走完之后，就把剩余的日数从释放之座的对面之座依次数出；同样，对更细的日与时，一轮的四十四日走完之后，就从对面之座依次数出其余的。
